'Tis that time of the year...
It is dreadfully slow and boring at work!

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I acquired our favorite crazy redhead yesterday. Our friend Becca came down from Fargo last night for a couple days. She brought a friend with. I actually can't remember his first name. It's something like Arthur or Arnold. Something with an A. She calls him the Amazing Woo, the Woo, or her Asian. I guess he's some guy she met gaming online, he came out to visit/meet her, and has now been staying with her and her husband for a couple months. Kind of strange, really. They're here because he wants to see the Mall of America.

Today, I got some happy news that may or may not apply to me. JAMES MARSTERS IS GOING TO BE AT THE PHOENIX COMIC CON!!!!! This is a convention that I'd already mentioned to Rick before that I'd like to go to, because besides all the cool people like [livejournal.com profile] spellwight and a bunch w/o LJ who live in Phoenix, Wil Wheaton is one of the PhxCC guests! And Felicia Day! And [livejournal.com profile] chieftyrol (Aaron Douglas)! And John Scalzi! And tons of others!

But James! I really really really really wanna go now. If flying is too expensive, maybe [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm & I can embark on another Epic Road Trip To Touch James Marsters. Seriously, this is the closest he's been to Minnesota since Toronto. Want!

The PhxCC is only $30 for a full weekend pass. Unfortunately the closest Worldmark resort is about 100 miles away, so we can't stay at the timeshare for free, but my father-in-law has a place on the north side of town in Surprise that we could probably stay at. Unfortunately, due to Phoenix's complete lack of a sensible freeway system, it is only 34 miles away but google maps says it is a 50 minute drive, 1 hr 20 mins in traffic. That plus the need to rent a car means that it might just be cheapest and easiest to get a cheap hotel room near the convention center, or near someone I know in Phx who will be going to the con. Of course, and even cheaper route would be for me to just stay in James' room w/him... LOL

Awesome photographer [livejournal.com profile] kylecassidy posted this on Thursday (yes, I'm that far behind on reading. Shuddup!)

From City Kitties comes an amazing tail (yes tail) of a seven year old who saved up his allowance and gave everything he had, $46.75, to help homeless cats.

In Evan's honor I paypalled $46.75 to info@citykitties.org.

You can too.

And you can read City Kitties note about Evan here.

People from all over are donating money not just to City Kitties, but also to their own local shelters in Evan's honor. How awesome is this kid?

Moose is off to another adventure. Non-LJ Pete & Paula just picked him up today so they can take him on their trip to Africa later this week. They are going to Ethiopia to pick up their new son! This will be continent #5 for Moose. Just Australia and Asia left after this.

Writercon was in Minneapolis this weekend, and while I didn't go, I got to meet one of my LJ friends who was in town for it!
[livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat had twittered to me that she was here and that we should meet sometime this weekend. So after P & P left with Moose I headed on down to the Mpls Radisson. We didn't succeed in finding a coffee shop, so we ended up at Block E in Applebee's. It was actually the same place I sat and chatted with [livejournal.com profile] allegraconbrio when she was in Mpls for work and I got to meet her. So now that I've done it twice it is officially a trend. When meeting LJ fanfic friends we will go to Applebee's.

Once again I have survived meeting an internet friend and they weren't crazy or a serial killer. Not sure how long that luck will hold out... Luckily I have [livejournal.com profile] hellbob to give me advice when I'm going to meet someone. "Don't die. Don't let anyone wear your face."

Besides meeting [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat, I got to see someone I'd met a couple years ago. This picture was taken in Las Vegas:
MooseXander
Flat Xander was with [livejournal.com profile] allegraconbrio on the "Vegas, Baby! Hookers & Blow!" trip. Today NWHepcat had him in her bag. She pulled him out for a picture when we stopped to take a picture of the coolest manhole cover I have ever seen:

Grilling in Minneapolis

I googled it and it was part of the first major public art undertaking of the Minneapolis Arts Commission in 1984. They commissioned 11 artists to design manhole covers, and they're on 6th & 7th Streets between Nicollet and Hennepin.

Sometime when Moose is back home I think I need a picture of him on the grill!

I gave [livejournal.com profile] kalfoley a call last nite before heading out to the Terminal Bar and she was up for going to see a band she'd never heard of so we made our plans to meet up there. Then when we walked in I saw [livejournal.com profile] ninja_tech! She'd decided last minute to come meet up with me and check out Sunspot too! Yay! I went from going to the concert by myself to having 2 friends to hang out with. :)

[livejournal.com profile] kalfoley & I had completely missed the first band, Skittish. [livejournal.com profile] ninja_tech said they were good, and I'd liked what I'd heard of them online. Oh well, that wasn't who I was there to see.

As we made our way up to find a spot near the stage I saw SunspotWendy who gave me a hug. I introduced her to the "Sunspot virgins" I'd brought with me. We got settled into a table right near the stage and chatted until the next band started.

This was a band that I'd also never heard of, Mass Drastic. They were really good! We all liked them and really liked the lead singer's voice. Unfortunately they don't have a CD yet, so I couldn't buy one. :( Since they are local I plan on going to see them play again sometime soon.

Mass Drastic:

After some more time getting to chat with [livejournal.com profile] kalfoley & [livejournal.com profile] ninja_tech, it was time for Sunspot to take the stage!!!

They had it cranked to eleven! They started the set with Prozac Girl. Not even halfway through the song Ninja leaned over to me and said, "Yeah, I'm gonna like these guys." Yay! KalFoley also liked them right off the bat. Yay!

To the best of my recollection, these are the songs they played:
(but not necessarily in this order)
Prozac Girl
Summer Day
Neanderthal
More Than My Degree
Sweet Relief
My Own Worst Enemy
Scott Bakula

It seems like there should be more than that but I just can't think of them right now.

Ben & Mike:

Wendy:

You can find a few more pictures in my gallery

After Sunspot was done we decided we should hang out and check out the last band. While Ninja & KalFoley were out smoking, one of the band members had told them to expect a "vocal orgasm." Well... They started playing and while the music wasn't bad, the lead singer just wasn't that good. I don't know if it was because he wasn't entirely sober, or if he's always not that good. Also, they had a guy on stage in a penguin suit. Not singing or playing an instrument or anything. Just up there jumping around. Weird!
(Yes, I know, I didn't name the band. I wasn't there to see them, so there's no point in totally trashing a band I'd never even heard of.)

So we moved to the back of the bar where the music wasn't so loud so we could talk. *edit* OMG! Ninja reminded me in the comments of their oh so awesome song lyrics. "Fucking Deanna in her vagina." Yes people, it was totally as awesome as it sounds. It was at this point where I made a comment about the vocal orgasm that Ninja insisted that I remember to post online:
They promised a vocal orgasm. This is more like when you fake it to get them to finish and roll off of you.

When they finally were done, we were hanging out chatting w/SunspotMike. He'd set his iPhone on the stage and couldn't find it, so I gave him my cell to call it with as he walked around listening for the ring. He found it! Also, I promised to stalk him now that I have his phone number. :P Anyhow, when he came back with his phone I was telling how EXTREMELY JEALOUS I was that he'd gotten to see Patrick Stewart & David Tennant do Hamlet when he was in England. This led to us Doctor Who geeking and he showed of the pictures he had on his phone from the Doctor Who Exhibit in Cardiff. So cool! Moose has been there too. I want to go.

When SunspotBen dragged him off to help with hauling their equipment, KalFoley bought a Sunspot CD and we got ready to go. After we got everyone to sign it for her we headed out the back door. SunspotMike was out there and so we started talking some more. He's soooo "one of us!" Our geeky conversation ran the gamut from D&D to Star Trek to GenCon to CONvergence to Alan Moore to Neil Gaiman to Doctor Who/Torchwood to sci-fi porn (Flesh Gordon). (Although not necessarily in that order.) We were talking for a good half hour at least. SunspotWendy was also out there by the time we left so we said goodbye to her again, and then all headed to my car. Since I was parked the closest I dropped the other two girls off at their cars and headed on home. Got home a little after 3:00 and curled up next to a nice warm [livejournal.com profile] hellbob.
All in all, it was a really great nite!

Northwest Airlines can go fuck themselves and the goddamn horse they rode in on!!!

Nice long rant about NWA, and how I came to be at the airport all night instead of flying out at 1am. )

But, until then, I was having a totally awesome time!!
LJ & podcast peeps that I got to meet for the very first time in person: Brian Ibbott & his lovely wife Tina, Tabz (aka [livejournal.com profile] sl_podcast), [livejournal.com profile] spellwight, Evo Terra & his wife Sheila, Jack Mangan, Len Peralta, Philippa Ballentine, Tee Morris, and I know I'm forgetting people (Hey, it's 3:15 am. Of course I'm forgetting people!!!) And not meeting him for the first time, but also there was [livejournal.com profile] johnboze. I also hung out with [livejournal.com profile] scubagrrl the whole time, of course, and we hung out with [livejournal.com profile] cajones a lot. It was a weird surreal twist because unlike the way it usually is with him, this time he didn't know anyone except me, and I was the one who knew a ton of people and was introducing him!
Brian is super awesome in person.

And there was also much JoCo this weekend.
JoCo hug count: at least 5 6. I saw him here at the airport about an hour and change ago. I accused him of stalking me. :)
Beers JoCo bought me: 1.
Checks written to JoCo by me for merch: 1.
Checks written to JoCo by me that he ripped up: 1. Bought the PAX DVD and he wouldn't let me pay for it!

And the concert: Awesome!!! When we got in right as the doors opened, JoCo was kind of overwhelmed at his merch table getting it set up so I asked if I needed a merch minion. He was mostly hanging out so I just ran the credit cards while he signed things for people.
During the concert I took many many pictures. Fewer of Jonathan than all the others because I have so many with better lighting and cooler looking stage.
After the concert said goodbye. Didn't expect to see him again. But today after walking [livejournal.com profile] scubagrrl & [livejournal.com profile] cajones to catch their cab to the airport I was headed back to Quark's bar and saw him sitting at the Space Quest bar by himself. He waved so I joined him and we chatted a while. Then people started gathering by us, and he left for the Star Trek ride with Len. That's the last I saw of him. I assume he survived the Borg attack...

Arg. Very tired now. I'll write more about the NME & stuff tomorrow when I'm in the comfort of my own home!

[livejournal.com profile] bloodlossgirl & LJ-less Nick are married now.
It was a fabulous ceremony and an even more fabulous reception.
They are adorable and I have pictures (later when I'm not drunk)
[livejournal.com profile] lexinatrix & hubby were there. And [livejournal.com profile] bleaknimue & [livejournal.com profile] suibhne_geilt & [livejournal.com profile] nigel_corvix. And [livejournal.com profile] nicepersonality. And LJ-less Jim (Hi Jim!) who's wife I've already met because she comes into my work.
It was fun and I had a lot of wine. So I am going to ravish the awesome [livejournal.com profile] hellbob now and will post more about the fun weekend later.
(Weekend details will include what happens when a crazy man with money starts collecting stuff... a.k.a. The House on the Rock)
hellziggy: (Default)
From [livejournal.com profile] bleaknimue and [livejournal.com profile] caoilainn and [livejournal.com profile] beanbeans:

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list, while I know some of you relatively well. I read your journals; some of you update regularly and in detail and some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself? Any old thing at all, so the next time I see your name I can say, "Ah, there's so-and-so, and they love to..."

I'd love it if as many people as possible who have me friended would do this. Yes, even those of you who comment on my LJ all the time. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.

Moose has arrived in Antarctica! Yay!

[livejournal.com profile] mcpenguin posted:
i am now the proud guardian of....wait for it....wait for it.....one smaller-than-i-had-expected stuffed moose!
so now, i have to figure out what to do with a stuffed moose.

So if you ever decide to mail yourself to Antarctica, pack enough food for just under a month.

[profile] beorcwyn: is new on my flist, so I really don't know anything about where he lives and if he's likely to have been near the bridge.
He has checked in and is ok
[personal profile] cleo &  [profile] romeoa[profile] mattmn  is pretty sure they are out of town, but it would be great if any of the rest of y'all could confirm that.
Yes, cleo & romeoa are out of town. Thank you [profile] craftygeekette!

[profile] lady_gunsen: She doesn't post often, and [profile] jennett, she still doesn't drive, right? So I'm pretty sure she's fine.

[personal profile] lexinatrix: I haven't heard from you yet!!! [personal profile] bloodlossgirlis still worried about you too! If anyone knows about Lex please drop a comment!!
Thank you [personal profile] davedujour! Lex reports in ok, but without cell service.

I believe that every other Twin Cities person on my flist has been accounted for.

My Twin Cities peeps who haven't done an "I'm OK" post yet. Let me know if I can cross any of these off yet.

'Tis a sad thing. The Nibleys are returning to their strange land of Chicago today.
We got to see lots of other wonderful people while they were here too.

Saturday night we went to an El Loro clone with them and met [livejournal.com profile] genevra, [livejournal.com profile] akdar and the Monkeys there. Mmmm. Carnitas. We also discovered [livejournal.com profile] dibsy's fear of 'gloopy' food. My Monkeys were, of course, the cutest Monkeys ever! It was still far too early when dinner was done so Kniblet & Dibsey came over to our place and we forced them to watch 40 Year Old Virgin as they'd never seen it. Between the fact that we have the Awsomest Cats Evah and the sheet we put on the couch to keep Kniblet cat hair-free she seemed to not have allergy issues! Yay! We didn't kill [livejournal.com profile] kniblet!

Sunday morning we headed to Chez Nibley, aka the Radisson, for breakfast. They had vouchers for free breakfast. Apparently if you put up a fuss that requires the hotel to call the banquet manager at home, you get free breakfast vouchers for the inconvenience. Good for the Nibleys, bad for the banquet manager! Jewish mothers really are psychic. Right in the middle of a discussion of types of bacon Kniblet's mother called her. hee hee. FYI, back bacon = Canadian bacon.

Breakfast was followed by the four of us going upstairs to do things that are illegal in all the states and many other countries... Yup, Dibsy and I traded musics. LOL. Then we were off to the theater because none of us had seen Children Of Man yet. It made Dibsy a bit homesick. Very depressing movie but also very darn good. We all liked it.

Next after the movie was dinner again. Originally we were going to drop the Nibleys off but they talked us into joining them. It's such a hardship spending time with them, don'tcha know. We met up with [livejournal.com profile] boliviafang and [livejournal.com profile] unopeneddoor at Muddy Paws and then walked up the block to Namaste. Mmmm. More yummy foreign food and many hours of talking and laughing. When we left it was a snow-filled winter wonderland! We dropped [livejournal.com profile] kniblet and [livejournal.com profile] dibsy back at the hotel with hugs & smooches and headed home.

Alas, I had to work on Monday. But when I got home I found that [livejournal.com profile] hellbob had possession of the Nibleys! Yay! We all went over to [livejournal.com profile] mle292 and [livejournal.com profile] vanaabegra's house for yummy pizza and the suckiest pool playing ever! Almost no games were won. More often than not a game was lost resulting in a default winner. There was wine & beer and waaaaay too much talk of horse-lovin'. Because as we know, somewhere right now there is a man making sweet sweet love to his horse. *shudder*

And then we left at 10ish or so because most of us had to be at work today. And we said our last goodbyes. *sigh*

You'd think that folks would get sick of each other after 4 days of pretty much constant contact, but we didn't. Must bump off the person in Minneapolis doing the same job as [livejournal.com profile] kniblet so that she can have the job and come live here!

And now I'm at work with no more Nibleys and it is sad.

:(
hellziggy: (Default)
I'm at work and I just soooooo don't want to be.
This is the last day of our Nibley invasion because they are heading back to Chicago tomorrow. At least they think they are. I think I will kidnap them and lock them in our basement apartment so I can keep them forever! It has been so wonderful having them here and I don't want them to leave!
We have snow here! Yay! It looks like a Minnesota January, finally!
School starts for me on Wednesday.
Urg. I have no focus today here at work because besides being in a "don't wanna be here!" mood I am also unmedicated. ADD girl needs her Ritalin!!!
And now my break is over and I have to go back to work.
*pout*
*uses mental powers to Hiro the clock to 4:30*
*doesn't work*

Is it just me, or does anyone else think the idea of [livejournal.com profile] dibsy in a black dress and big black combat boots arguing with similarly dressed boy in a club in England sounds hot?
What? Just me?
Well if there were pictures I'd probably pay good money for them...
*grin*
hellziggy: (Default)
I didn't go to work on Friday! Instead I slept in and then at about 11:00ish [livejournal.com profile] kniblet & [livejournal.com profile] dibsy called to let me know that they were on their way to my house from their hotel.
I introduced them to the little fuzzy ones and then gave them a tour of our house. Apparently our house was built using Time Lord technology because it was much larger than it looked from the outside. We didn't have any specific plans, so before heading out we watched the newest episode of Smallville. Man, that Oliver Queen is a pretty pretty boy!
After the show we headed out for food. Big Bowl at Ridgedale. Yum! And we did some shopping (although somehow I am the only one who bought anything...)
After shopping, we had a brief visit to the MonkeyHouse to see [livejournal.com profile] genevra, [livejournal.com profile] technomonkey_m & [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonkey_b. [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonkey_b found Moose sticking out of my back and 'liberated' him. They also both decided my lap was the best place to sit to eat their snacks.
After that it was time to hop in the car to go meet [livejournal.com profile] freyjakj, [livejournal.com profile] oed_1 & [livejournal.com profile] hellbob at a coffee shop since [livejournal.com profile] freyjakj & [livejournal.com profile] oed_1 had not yet met them in real life yet.
There was much more fabulous chatting. Then freyjakj & oed_1 had to head home to their munchkin, [livejournal.com profile] boliviafang showed up, and we all left for dinner at Soba's. [livejournal.com profile] genevra, [livejournal.com profile] mle292 and [livejournal.com profile] vanaabegra showed up too and there was still more fabulous chatting.
Today [livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I slept in while the Nibleys went to look at art with mle & vanaabegra and we met for lunch after that. Very tasty dim sum at Jun Bo. The yummiest bit of food there was the squid! Now I'm relaxing on the couch at home waiting for the Nibleys to show up so that we can, you guessed it, go eat!
hellziggy: (Default)
I am currently at work, on my lunch break. I am eating very delicious leftover steak & mashed potatoes with bacon & cheese! Yay! And where did this oh so yummy lunch come from? That's the best part!
They are my leftovers from an absolutely fabulous dinner with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] caoilainn!
She flew all teh way from Baltimore to Minneapolis JUST to meet ME! Yay! (Oh, alright. There may have been some work involved too...)
She was staying in one of the downtown hotels connected to our skyway system, so she was able to meet me for dinner without having to go outside!
(The Mpls skyway system:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyway
http://minneapolis.about.com/library/bl/bl_mplsmap_hotels.htm )

We sat at the restaurant and talked and ate for a good two and a half hours and never ran out of things to say! [livejournal.com profile] felisblanco & [livejournal.com profile] tx_cronopio, we talked about you! Don't worry, all good! We have become more determined that we need to find a way to make IceCon work because we loves the Felis. And she says I need to meet Cronopio too because she's uber-cool!
We talked about conventions & Buffy fandom & pairings & dislike of pairing names & Wincest squicking us (although we read it anyway) but J2 RPS being completely believable & skyways & how cool downtown Minneapolis is & that she has to come back during summer months & I need to go out to Baltimore to visit her & speeding tickets we've gotten and not gotten & generic drugs & cool credit card holders from Target & DVDs I need to watch & Basilicas & cathedrals & Chicago & lots and lots of stuff! Yay!
Live Journal is a wonderous place because everyone here I've ever then met in real life has been so super cool & fabulous! I want to throw a HellCon and make everyone on my friends list all come to Minnesota at the same time (in summer of course!)

Sadness: lunch is over, steak is gone, can't type any more. :( I'll post more tonight, including a linkarific guide for [livejournal.com profile] caoilainn of things we talked about! Every time I get nervous about meeting an LJ person IRL, those fears are easy to set aside because the ratio of really cool (lots!) to psycho and/or scary (none!) keeps increasing.

And I REALLY need to make an "I love Mpls" type icon!
