I decided early this week that I would go to Sunspot's CD/DVD release party in Madison if I could get out of work early on Friday. Things were relatively slow, so I took off at 1:00 and hit the road! I stopped to pick up Wyatt, we drove to his friend Danielle's house, and took her car the rest of the way to Madison. At this point there were no concrete plans of where we would all be sleeping. We hit town right as the party was starting at 7:00. There was lots of awesome food provided by Wendy's parents. And there was lots of free beer provided by the Point Brewery. Now y'all know I like dark beer, but given the choice between free beer and dark beer, guess which one wins?
At 8:30 Sunspot took the stage and rocked the hell out of it for two hours! They're usually playing with other bands when they come to Minneapolis so this was the first time I got to see such a long set from them. It was just fucking awesome!!!
The set list:
2012
Sweet Relief
More Than My Degree
Path of Most Resistance
Square Root of All Evil
Uncanny Valley
Tunguska
Dig Your Grave
Trashy Hot
Hypnogogic
Grand Guignol
No Place Like Home
Pretend
Mr. Foff
Scott Bakula
Eat Out My Heart
Neanderthal
Summer Day
Change the World

The band doing a Jagermeister shot on stage:

This was the only picture I took of Moose all night:
Moose on Wendy's drum set

After the set there was more hanging out and drinking at the club. Then about Midnight we had a plan. Wyatt, Danielle and I headed a couple blocks down to a bar called the Red Shed while the band loaded up the van. Now that I was paying for beer I switched to Newcastle, and we found a booth to hang out and wait for everyone. Probably about a dozen people ended up there.
How adorable of a couple are Ben & Allison?

When it was discovered that I'd never Jagermeister someone bought me a shot of it. That is some nasty stuff!
Yeah, we got a little drunk:

Bars in Madison must close at about 2am, because it was around 2:20 or so that we headed to Ian's for pizza. OMG! This place has macaroni & cheese pizza. The most awesome thing ever! Especially after a night of beer.

I think it was about 3:00 or 3:30 when we left there. Wyatt was good to drive, so he got me, Danielle and Mike back to Mike's house where I was given a pillow & blanket and crashed out on a nice comfy couch. Gotta love a band that gets you drunk *and* gives you a safe place to sleep!

I was not feeling so good the next day though. I choose to blame that one shot of Jager! We were eventually all alive enough to head back into town, stopping to pick up Wendy & Terrance so everyone could get back to their cars. Then it was back on the highway and home for us.

All in all, it was a hell of a lot of fun!

Hmmmm. I opened a bottle of my daddy's homemade wine (Cranberry 2006) to have just a glass or two. It appears that the bottle is now empty. How odd... *grin*

I spent a very pleasant day today doing nothing but watching tv with my wonderful [livejournal.com profile] hellbob. We also talked a lot about his NYC trip as he remembered details that he'd forgotten to tell me last night. While near the Empire State Building (or was it Times Square?) he saw Carson Kressley from Queer Eye. Didn't chase him down for a picture with Stunt Double Moose though. Oh well.

I'm so glad we were able to make his New York City adventure happen even though money is a little tight at the moment. Seeing that last Police concert meant so much to him. And yes, I'm a teensy bit jealous that I didn't get to see NYC with him, but I also know that [livejournal.com profile] kaldeth appreciated the concert far more than I would have.

One thing about his trip that I haven't posted about yet is his seats for the concert.
Hellbob originally had seats in section 65, right next to the stage but to the side and a little behind. TicketBastard moved him (and everyone else in that section) to the much crappier seats in section 331 saying that the section they were in wasn't going to be used for the concert.

Then, about a week before the concert they put that section up for sale to the general public without offering it back to the people that had been moved! i found this out less than 12 hours before [livejournal.com profile] hellbob's flight to NYC. So I spent my morning at work on the phone to TicketBastard while I was working. There were no better tickets for them to give to him, and they weren't willing to consider a partial refund even though they totally screwed him by moving him and then reselling the seats he'd originally had. They insisted that it was the show's promoter who determined such things.

I was really tired because I'd given up a few hours sleep to drive the boys to the airport, so TicketBastard's response to this issue really pissed me off. I decided to try another avenue.

I went to the 13WNET/WLIW21 website (the NYC public tv stations that the concert was a benefit for) and the only phone number I could find was for people who wanted to donate $2000.00, $5000.00 or $10,000.00 to the station. So I called that number and gave a brief summary of what had happened and told them that Hellbob was flying from Minneapolis to New York just for this concert and TicketBastard wouldn't help and was there anything they could do?

I actually got a call back fairly quickly from the super awesome Jason who hadn't heard anything about the fan club seating issues, but he would see what he could do. Then, not too much later I got another call from him telling me to have Rick & Tom go to the TV station's table when they got to Madison Square Garden and ask for Mark Cxxxxxx, and they would have better seats for Rick!

O.M.G! By making a few (well ok, a half dozen or so...) phone calls from here at home I was able to get Rick & Tom better seats for the concert! I couldn't believe it actually worked! I'm still pissed at TicketBastard, of course. But 13WNET really came through for me, and for Rick & Tom!

The seats they got moved to were ones that sold for $75 more than the ones they originally had, and while they weren't any closer than the ones that TicketBastard had moved them to, it was a much better angle! Yay!

Hmmm. I should probably go to bed now. That last glass of wine is starting to hit... Mmmmm. Wine is good. :)

g'nite everyone!

Ooops. Almost forgot to put in the graphic of the MSG seating. :P

[livejournal.com profile] bloodlossgirl & LJ-less Nick are married now.
It was a fabulous ceremony and an even more fabulous reception.
They are adorable and I have pictures (later when I'm not drunk)
[livejournal.com profile] lexinatrix & hubby were there. And [livejournal.com profile] bleaknimue & [livejournal.com profile] suibhne_geilt & [livejournal.com profile] nigel_corvix. And [livejournal.com profile] nicepersonality. And LJ-less Jim (Hi Jim!) who's wife I've already met because she comes into my work.
It was fun and I had a lot of wine. So I am going to ravish the awesome [livejournal.com profile] hellbob now and will post more about the fun weekend later.
(Weekend details will include what happens when a crazy man with money starts collecting stuff... a.k.a. The House on the Rock)

I was having major PMS chocolate cravings tonight, and I didn't think there was any chocolate in the house. Then I remembered the big ol' jug of irish cream in the fridge. Mmmm. That's chocolate! And there was some Kahlua in there two, so I mixed the two and it was yummy and satisfied my chocolate craving.

It also helped relax me. Even though I don't expect that anyone recovered from the river will be anyone I know, there is still always the possibility. Or it could be someone a friend or family member knows. And even if there is no one I know I still feel so bad for all the families who did know someone.

Yes, there were many moments of luck and good fortune preventing this tragedy from being so much worse. The resurfacing on the bridge had the traffic reduced down to just a fraction of the normal flow. It was summer, so it was still light out when it happened. If it had been January or February it would have been dark and freezing. The bus, full of children, wasn't one of the vehicles crushed under the bridge.
This could have been so much worse.

But it still doesn't seem like it could be real. These things don't happen in Minnesota, ya know? We don't have earthquakes. We don't have hurricanes. We're nice and safe in the middle of the country.

So, everyone, make sure you take time this week to hug your loved ones and tell them you love them. And go donate blood. Even if you're not here in Mpls, and your blood won't go to the victims of the bridge collapse, it will still save lives. And if you aren't a wuss about needles and have a few hours to spare, look into donating plasma or platelets instead.

We may not be the prettiest, or the smartest, or the most powerful. But we don't exist for the beautiful people of the world, Ted! We're there for the oddball, the rebel, the outcast, the geek!

I never did do any kind of CONvergence recap post, did I? Well, lets see what I remember...

Friday I had to work until 1:00, but then I drove the 5 minutes from there directly to the hotel. I got checked in to the hotel room. Short tower! Yay! Plus, the room number was easy to remember even after drunkeness. We were the Neighbors of the Beast, room 665. hee hee. I got my con badge too and started wandering about after dropping my stuff off in the room.

Throughout the weekend I think I saw everyone on my flist who was there with the exception of [livejournal.com profile] yaaren who I managed to miss entirely.

There was lots of wandering and chatting with people.

I saw opening ceremonies.

I decided on Hard Apple Cider as my drink for the night and this was acquired in a liquor store run.

I went to the Soylent Blue show. It was absolutely disturbing, wrong, twisted, and one of the funniest damn things I've ever seen. Fan fiction read aloud. Coochie Monster. The Aristocrats/CONvergence. I NEED a copy of that on DVD!

Then I wandered more parties, talked to more people.

I was up until about 4 am or so.

I learned that over the course of a convention evening that 1 six-pack of cider will get me happily drunk without getting me stupid and annoying and without making me hungover the next day.

Saturday [livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I ran home to feed the cats and pick up some lunch. Then it was back to the hotel for more geeky goodness.

The first panel I went to was the one on podcasts. I got a few recommendations of new stuff to listen to, and I got a chance to pimp Coverville. Afterward I introduced myself to [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain since we had just recently friended in LJ-land and had never met in real life.

Next up was a Raptor Center presentation. I had to run back up to the room before this one though because it was the only time during the whole con that I needed my telephoto lens so that I could get close-ups of the birds. I took a tone of pics of the birds, and after the presentation I went and introduced myself to Sharon Stiteler, the Birdchick. We had exchanged some emails so it was nice to meet her in person.

The next panel for me was called "A Digital Camera Doesn't Make You An Artist" It had [livejournal.com profile] gunthar on it and a bunch of other people. Unfortunately there was one guy who dominated the conversation and spent most of it talking about how film is superior to digital which is not what I thought it would be about at all.

After that it was dinner at TGIFriday's with [livejournal.com profile] hellbob, [livejournal.com profile] levertwok, Tyler, and [livejournal.com profile] camel0t (who I didn't even know had an LJ until that night) before heading back for another night of cruising the parties & chatting with people.

Then late that night there was a preview of Midnight, that movie that some friends are on the crew of and I was an extra for that one day. The digital effects look so freakin' cool!

On Saturday night I was wandering about until around 4 am again and drank a six-pack of cider again.

Sunday started with us packing up and clearing out of the room.

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob wandered off one direction and I ended up wandering into the Iron Artist panel. It was ok, but I think by missing the beginning I missed the funniest parts. I wandered to a few other places too, including [livejournal.com profile] realsarah's reptile presentation were I sat with [livejournal.com profile] geohard.

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob wasn't feeling very good so we arranged for [livejournal.com profile] levertwok to give him a ride home and I stayed for part of the Dead Dog party.

First up was the closing ceremonies.

Then a herd of us wandered on over to TGIFriday's for dinner. After [livejournal.com profile] jmanna ordered "a mudslide the size of my head" I decided that it looked very yummy so I then ordered "a mudslide the size of her head."

I believe that the walk back to the hotel was the official creation point of Fan-anon, aka the S.O. club.

We were going to play Salad Bowl when we got back to the hotel but [livejournal.com profile] vorrant had the very valid point that the hot tub had a closing time but Salad Bowl didn't, and also that the hot tub had been shocked that afternoon so most of the "geek soup" of it was gone. So, we hit that first and then did some salad bowl afterward. The hot tub was also about the only time I got to chat with [livejournal.com profile] wiredferret, but it was for way too brief a time.

Next up, a game of Salad Bowl. It was me, [livejournal.com profile] jmanna, [livejournal.com profile] scotia_girl and [livejournal.com profile] vanaabegra against [livejournal.com profile] vorrant, [livejournal.com profile] geohard, [livejournal.com profile] realsarah, and [livejournal.com profile] mle292. We lost by 3. One of my favorites was [livejournal.com profile] scotia_girl pulling a slip and looking very confused. Before she even said a word I got it: Lump! It was almost the end of the game and there were fewer than 20 slips. I had put Lump in and knew it hadn't been pulled yet. She was also the only person at the table who had never heard of my cats (except possibly [livejournal.com profile] vanaabegra) so I made the educated guess that it was what had confused her. [livejournal.com profile] mle292 was amused that [livejournal.com profile] vanaabegra and I were able to get Ron Jeremy at the exact same time with just the clue of "Porn star."

After Salad Bowl it was getting far too late for me, since I had to work the next day. So I started wandering my way to the car.

And thus ended another CONvergence.

hee hee. I bought a six pack of Hardcore Premium Hard Cider on the way home w/[livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm tonight. I drank either 3 or 4 while she was here and we were watching Action. I was fine... The I had either 1 or 2 while continuing to watch Action after she left.

No, I'm not that fuzzy on how many I drank. I had 5. I'm just not sure if it was one or two after she left. Anyway, the fifth one really hit me. I was just fine after 4. But at 5 I am definitely Dwunk. *giggle*

Yet I kept trying to catch up on today's LJ... If I left you a weird comment that would be why. Unless I left a weird one this afternoon. Then it's just normal sober weirdness!

I might be bittorrenting Supernatural at the moment. And it might be the adorable Miss [livejournal.com profile] felisblanco's fault. She knows why. Bad Felis! What have you done to me?
hee!

Now, off to bed with me, for I have to help the roommate move at the ungodly hour of 9am!!!

I didn't thinki I was that drunk until my fingers started trying to type. Lots of backspacing going on here. It's 3 am and [livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I just got home from the neighbors house. We dorve there! Yep. they are about 100 feet away and we dorve. In our defence, they are through the back yard and we got almo0st a foot of snow yesterday. If they were on our street we would have walked.

I had 5 ciders & a bit of champagne, but I gbuess it's hitting me now.

I got to kiss Mr. [livejournal.com profile] hellbob at midnightish. We figured that since we didn't have a tv on it was midnight whenever we were ready for it to be which i think was actually ab out 12:05 or 12:10. Oh well.

We also brought the jones holiday sodas with us. That's a story in and of itself that will wait until tomorrow when i am sober and can type in english!

Now i am going to play a round or two of We Love Katamari before going to bed to snog my Hellbob!

Happy New Year, y'all!!!!!!!
