Oh LJ. Poor neglected LJ. It seems like I never visit with you anymore. Don't worry. I still love you. Really I do.
If It wasn't so late at night I'd be telling you right now how totally awesome Chris Hardwick's show at Acme Comedy Co. was. I'd be busy gushing about how awesome he was when I met him afterwards. I'd be posting the picture of him with me & Moose. I'd be squeeing over the fact that I've got his contact info now. I'd be telling you that he calls himself Nerdist, but he can't be that much of a nerd because he doesn't have *any* swords. He's got bugs, lots of dead bugs. I think that makes him a geek, not a nerd.
Yes, I'd be sharing all this with you, my darling LJ. Because I still love you.
But it's really late at night so I'm going to go to bed instead.
Maybe tomorrow...

Haven't figured out what the heck I would use it for...
And, surprise surprise, I'm HellZiggy there too. hellziggy@googleewave.com

Bruce Campbell is doing a promo tour for his movie, My Name Is Bruce.

From his site: Hey, folks, here are the tour dates and venues for My Name is Bruce. Barring union strikes, hurricanes, flat tires or diptheria, I will be personally appearing at each of these cities to introduce the film and do a spirited Q&A afterward. Please bear in mind, this isn't a "signing," so I recommend that the only thing you bring is your smiling face. I will be doing the 3 major show every day - roughly the 7:00, 9:30 and midnight screenings I look forward to seeing you all there!

The cities, dates, and times are HERE.

His Minneapolis dates are Dec 5-7 at the Lagoon Theatre. [livejournal.com profile] hellbob and I have our tickets already for the Sunday, Dec 7th show at 7pm.

I feel like such a geek. I just made Moose his own gmail account.
MooseAdventures@gmail.com

To defend my geekery, I did this because I'm making a Moose website for my HTML class. But still...

Hee hee! The license on George Takai's limo on Heroes was NCC-1701!
And I caught it before [livejournal.com profile] hellbob!

While at the cabin we were talking about a spider or something that a kid named a boy name and then found out it was a girl.
Someone asked how you would be able to tell the difference.
I answered with "Sexual dimorphism"
I didn't even realize I had that phrase roaming around in my brain... The other gals looked at me and were like "Wow! Where'd that come from?" I guess I did retain a bit of my Zoology major knowledge.
So, for [profile] lucky13charm, [profile] kalfoley, Non-LJ J and anyone else who is curious, here is the wiki on sexual dimorphism:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_dimorphism

Sexual dimorphism is the systematic difference in form between individuals of different sex in the same species.

We may not be the prettiest, or the smartest, or the most powerful. But we don't exist for the beautiful people of the world, Ted! We're there for the oddball, the rebel, the outcast, the geek!

I never did do any kind of CONvergence recap post, did I? Well, lets see what I remember...

Friday I had to work until 1:00, but then I drove the 5 minutes from there directly to the hotel. I got checked in to the hotel room. Short tower! Yay! Plus, the room number was easy to remember even after drunkeness. We were the Neighbors of the Beast, room 665. hee hee. I got my con badge too and started wandering about after dropping my stuff off in the room.

Throughout the weekend I think I saw everyone on my flist who was there with the exception of [livejournal.com profile] yaaren who I managed to miss entirely.

There was lots of wandering and chatting with people.

I saw opening ceremonies.

I decided on Hard Apple Cider as my drink for the night and this was acquired in a liquor store run.

I went to the Soylent Blue show. It was absolutely disturbing, wrong, twisted, and one of the funniest damn things I've ever seen. Fan fiction read aloud. Coochie Monster. The Aristocrats/CONvergence. I NEED a copy of that on DVD!

Then I wandered more parties, talked to more people.

I was up until about 4 am or so.

I learned that over the course of a convention evening that 1 six-pack of cider will get me happily drunk without getting me stupid and annoying and without making me hungover the next day.

Saturday [livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I ran home to feed the cats and pick up some lunch. Then it was back to the hotel for more geeky goodness.

The first panel I went to was the one on podcasts. I got a few recommendations of new stuff to listen to, and I got a chance to pimp Coverville. Afterward I introduced myself to [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain since we had just recently friended in LJ-land and had never met in real life.

Next up was a Raptor Center presentation. I had to run back up to the room before this one though because it was the only time during the whole con that I needed my telephoto lens so that I could get close-ups of the birds. I took a tone of pics of the birds, and after the presentation I went and introduced myself to Sharon Stiteler, the Birdchick. We had exchanged some emails so it was nice to meet her in person.

The next panel for me was called "A Digital Camera Doesn't Make You An Artist" It had [livejournal.com profile] gunthar on it and a bunch of other people. Unfortunately there was one guy who dominated the conversation and spent most of it talking about how film is superior to digital which is not what I thought it would be about at all.

After that it was dinner at TGIFriday's with [livejournal.com profile] hellbob, [livejournal.com profile] levertwok, Tyler, and [livejournal.com profile] camel0t (who I didn't even know had an LJ until that night) before heading back for another night of cruising the parties & chatting with people.

Then late that night there was a preview of Midnight, that movie that some friends are on the crew of and I was an extra for that one day. The digital effects look so freakin' cool!

On Saturday night I was wandering about until around 4 am again and drank a six-pack of cider again.

Sunday started with us packing up and clearing out of the room.

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob wandered off one direction and I ended up wandering into the Iron Artist panel. It was ok, but I think by missing the beginning I missed the funniest parts. I wandered to a few other places too, including [livejournal.com profile] realsarah's reptile presentation were I sat with [livejournal.com profile] geohard.

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob wasn't feeling very good so we arranged for [livejournal.com profile] levertwok to give him a ride home and I stayed for part of the Dead Dog party.

First up was the closing ceremonies.

Then a herd of us wandered on over to TGIFriday's for dinner. After [livejournal.com profile] jmanna ordered "a mudslide the size of my head" I decided that it looked very yummy so I then ordered "a mudslide the size of her head."

I believe that the walk back to the hotel was the official creation point of Fan-anon, aka the S.O. club.

We were going to play Salad Bowl when we got back to the hotel but [livejournal.com profile] vorrant had the very valid point that the hot tub had a closing time but Salad Bowl didn't, and also that the hot tub had been shocked that afternoon so most of the "geek soup" of it was gone. So, we hit that first and then did some salad bowl afterward. The hot tub was also about the only time I got to chat with [livejournal.com profile] wiredferret, but it was for way too brief a time.

Next up, a game of Salad Bowl. It was me, [livejournal.com profile] jmanna, [livejournal.com profile] scotia_girl and [livejournal.com profile] vanaabegra against [livejournal.com profile] vorrant, [livejournal.com profile] geohard, [livejournal.com profile] realsarah, and [livejournal.com profile] mle292. We lost by 3. One of my favorites was [livejournal.com profile] scotia_girl pulling a slip and looking very confused. Before she even said a word I got it: Lump! It was almost the end of the game and there were fewer than 20 slips. I had put Lump in and knew it hadn't been pulled yet. She was also the only person at the table who had never heard of my cats (except possibly [livejournal.com profile] vanaabegra) so I made the educated guess that it was what had confused her. [livejournal.com profile] mle292 was amused that [livejournal.com profile] vanaabegra and I were able to get Ron Jeremy at the exact same time with just the clue of "Porn star."

After Salad Bowl it was getting far too late for me, since I had to work the next day. So I started wandering my way to the car.

And thus ended another CONvergence.

[livejournal.com profile] mhuot, you might need to help me with this one...
I'm wondering how to put files out there on the internet. Not a web page, but just some files. Like possibly some mp3 files. I've had other friends who've put stuff out there and I can just right-click and do a save as, but I don't know how.
I have Dreamweaver which I used for my class a year or so ago, but I was never all that comfortable with the uploading process. I can't seem to get anything to work now, but I don't know if it's just me, or if it's the server. When I hit the test button it says it's connecting, and when I go look at the sites I did for school they are still there. But I can't seem to figure out how to get a new folder up there and put stuff in it...
I also tried using Fetch and it seemed like it should work, but then I type in the address of where I should have stuff and I can't find it.
Help?!

What happens when you give a geek some knitting needles?

[livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm named her new iPod Nano Jayne because I said I would make this:

Well, I'm done with school 'til next semester. I'm getting an A in my class. Out of the 160 points possible for the first four assignments I got 160, so I'm just going to assume that my final project will get a good grade too!

Most of you know I have ADD. At work I listen to audio books to keep my brain awake and entertained. Several months ago, shortly before iTunes started carrying them, I discovered PodCasts. I had heard about them and they sounded interesting but I never really got around to finding out just what they were about. After the first episode of The Signal came out I decided to see what else was out there.

I found some geeky ones about Macs, and I found some comedy ones with people just talking about their lives, and I found some geeky Sci-Fi ones, and I found one chock full of cover song goodness. I also found some boring ones and some that were interesting but I just couldn't listen to the guys voices.

This was shortly after I had loaned Niki at work my Firefly DVDs and created an instant addict. So, in my need to spread the love, I sent both Niki and [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm the url for The Signal. I also sent them the url for Coverville.

Because of the "no installing programs" rule at work we couldn't put podcatchers out there so we were manually downloading. Then iTunes added podcasts. I sorta ignored the no software rule and put iTunes on my computer anyway. I figured that if IS said anything, I could pull the "I'm just a girl. what did i do wrong?" routine. But the guys in iS wanted iTunes on their computers too so they pretty much just look the other way.

Whenever I found a new PodCast I would let the girls know. Both of them listen to TWiT now too. Although neither of them filled out the poll so they aren't 'officially' part of the TWiT 3% club like I am.

When Leo read the stats from their poll I couldn't believe that the number of women listening was only 3%. (although i didn't have any problem believing that over half their listeners were single...) I know TWiT's demo would skew more towards male than female, but i didn't think it would be that drastic.

Then I started looking to see if I could find any other stats about the gender split in general among PodCast listeners. There's really not much out there. I saw one poll that had women at 15%. Also, the female attendance at the Portable Media Expo was listed as about 15%. Still not really high numbers.

I was talking to Niki about that and I was mentioning how many women I knew who listened to PodCasts. That's when it dawned on me. Almost every woman I know who listens, listens as a direct result of me recommending something to them. When I said that, Niki said. "You are the Geek Grenade. Spreading geekness everywhere."

So, *kaboom*, I'm gonna spread some more of that geekness with some links to PodCasts I like. These links are to the shows actual page, although you can go to iTunes to subscribe to them.
