'Tis that time of the year...
It is dreadfully slow and boring at work!

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I acquired our favorite crazy redhead yesterday. Our friend Becca came down from Fargo last night for a couple days. She brought a friend with. I actually can't remember his first name. It's something like Arthur or Arnold. Something with an A. She calls him the Amazing Woo, the Woo, or her Asian. I guess he's some guy she met gaming online, he came out to visit/meet her, and has now been staying with her and her husband for a couple months. Kind of strange, really. They're here because he wants to see the Mall of America.

Today, I got some happy news that may or may not apply to me. JAMES MARSTERS IS GOING TO BE AT THE PHOENIX COMIC CON!!!!! This is a convention that I'd already mentioned to Rick before that I'd like to go to, because besides all the cool people like [livejournal.com profile] spellwight and a bunch w/o LJ who live in Phoenix, Wil Wheaton is one of the PhxCC guests! And Felicia Day! And [livejournal.com profile] chieftyrol (Aaron Douglas)! And John Scalzi! And tons of others!

But James! I really really really really wanna go now. If flying is too expensive, maybe [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm & I can embark on another Epic Road Trip To Touch James Marsters. Seriously, this is the closest he's been to Minnesota since Toronto. Want!

The PhxCC is only $30 for a full weekend pass. Unfortunately the closest Worldmark resort is about 100 miles away, so we can't stay at the timeshare for free, but my father-in-law has a place on the north side of town in Surprise that we could probably stay at. Unfortunately, due to Phoenix's complete lack of a sensible freeway system, it is only 34 miles away but google maps says it is a 50 minute drive, 1 hr 20 mins in traffic. That plus the need to rent a car means that it might just be cheapest and easiest to get a cheap hotel room near the convention center, or near someone I know in Phx who will be going to the con. Of course, and even cheaper route would be for me to just stay in James' room w/him... LOL

Surprise is a traffic nightmare away. It's not distance as much as it's small roads, traffic and no back way.

I'll be volunteering at the Con, but at this point I don't know what that entails. You could stay with me. Or the Convention Center is on the light rail (right across the street) so you could effectively get a cheap hotel room anywhere on the rail and not have to drive at all.

And if I take the light rail I don't have to wear pants, right?

I do remember the traffic nightmare of getting from Surprise to anywhere. Your city needs some damn freeways!

I was really hoping I could even do a tax deduction for my expenses to get out there, but the IRS pub says "Generally, you can claim a charitable contribution deduction for travel expenses necessarily incurred while you are away from home performing services for a charitable organization only if there is no significant element of personal pleasure, recreation, or vacation in the travel."
And if I go, there will be a significant element of personal pleasure & recreation.

But, so far, Rick hasn't said no! (He hasn't said yes yet, but he hasn't said no either.)

So if it ends up being a road trip instead of flying, are you in? *evil grin*

Get a few people in the car and the cost drops dramatically... :)

Some may feel squeamish about eating it, but rabbit has a fan base that grows as cooks discover how easy they are to raise — and how good the meat tastes.
