OK, so I don't have a write up about Phoenix ComiCon yet. But, I did get my pictures from the James Marsters Q & A up on Flickr.

But first, a link:
Thanks to A Geek And His Wife we've got some good quality video of ComiCon panels out there. I know a lot of people recorded stuff, but these aren't on You Tube. So, they aren't broken down into a bunch of short segments! I don't know about you, but I really hate having to watch 6 different videos just to see one full 1 hr panel! Now that I have found this site I'm going to have to go watch all the panels I didn't make it too!

For your viewing pleasure, the whole James Marsters Q & A:

And since not all of you out there want to see tons of pics of James, here's just one.

James Marsters Q & A

And for those of you who want to see a ton of pictures, here's a bunch more under the cut! )

As always, it was great fun watching James bounce around on stage for an hour. I can only imagine he would have been moving around more had the mike not been all wired under the table & shit.

I really wanted to punch annoying moderator guy, especially after it switched over to the questions from the audience. Really dude, at that point SHUT UP! You're there to keep things flowing if they slow down, not to fan boy all over James like it's a conversation between the two of you. And when James is doing a Q&A, things don't die down to where a moderator is needed to get it going.

The whole Flickr set can be seen HERE. I just wish I had more pics. My lens just wasn't quite fast enough, so some of my shots were a titch blurred.

I fly to Phoenix tomorrow! \0/

I'm going down for the Phoenix ComiCon.
It's full of awesome guests: http://www.phoenixcomicon.com/

Including my beloved James Marsters. And my Geek Crush Wil Wheaton. And my Geek Girl Crush Felicia Day.

I'll get to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] spellwight while I'm down there.

I've already got a VIP ticket for the James Marsters Concert on Saturday night. I've missed hearing him live. It's been 4 years!

Should be a great weekend!

Woo hoo!

I've got my ticket down to Arizona for the Phoenix ComiCon purchased! Yay!

I haven't picked up my return ticket yet, because I'm not sure when I'll be headed back, although I am leaning towards a really long Phoenix - Atlanta - Minneapolis over night flight on Sun-Mon because it's the cheapest ticket and I'll have all day Monday to sleep or recover anyway.

But the important thing is that I've got the ticket there!

I'll be arriving in Phoenix at 12:46 PM on Thursday, May 27th.

Ooh, depending on if I plan anything for Thurs, maybe I can go to the Zoo!

That's about the extent of my plans so far. It looks like James Marsters will be doing a Saturday night concert, so that is definitely on my to do list! And it sounds like Wil Wheaton is planning to do RockBand again. I just hope that doesn't conflict with James.

It would be nice to have the convenience of staying at the Hyatt, but that's probably more than I want to spend. I'd have to try to find roomates, which would mean posting on the message board.
The room costs are:
$119 for single / 1 = $119 per night
$119 for double / 1 = $59.50 per night
$144 for triple / 1 = $48 per night
$169 for quad / 1 = $42.25 per night
I don't remember any hotel I've ever stayed at charging $50 more for 2 extra people! That's only reasonable if you get a larger room when you have 4.

So I definitely wouldn't be staying there by myself! I've got 3 months to figure that out though. LOL. I still think the best plan would be for me to just stay in James' room...

Hey [livejournal.com profile] genevra, does your f-i-l have any connections at the Hyatt Regency downtown Phoenix? *grin*

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob says I should definitely go to the Phoenix Comicon!

\0/

He's going to go too if we can manage it. It will depend on how I get there and how much it costs.

Do any of you guys want to go too? :)

One option we were considering was road tripping down.
It is a 28-29 hour drive according to the Google Maps. It is between 1700 & 1800 miles depending on which route you take. If road-tripping I'm leaning towards the route through Denver as I've already taken the other route once, and I've never ever ever been in the Rocky Mountains.
MplsPhx routes
This option is really only feasible if there are a few of us heading down. To minimize time needed off work, it would be nice to drive straight through to only lose just over one day to travel. That means multiple drivers. Plus, depending on start time it would also have the advantage of driving through the not-so-scenic Iowa & Nebraska in the dark. You could even go with if you're not Minneapolis people as long as you live somewhere close to that blue line.

Option #2 is flying. This option minimizes the possibility of Rick being able to go. Right now, round trips to Phoenix are running between $280 and $330, give or take a few fees. Southwest, who we love, is not the cheapest. They do, however, have a $20 leeway built in since they won't charge for my checked bag. (for ex., I consider a $320 United flight and a $300 SWA flight to be the same price). If flying is the decided method of travel, I still have over 3 months to keep an eye out for a sale, or possibly a really good air/hotel combo special.

If flying, there's no travel savings for multiple people going, like there would be driving. But either way, if any of y'all wanna go we could split hotel room costs. If it is just me I will take [livejournal.com profile] spellwight up on her generous offer of crashing at her place before she has a chance to think twice about it. (DON'T tell her I snore!) ;) But I won't even think about imposing if I'm more than just me.

So yeah, definitely going. Don't know how I'm getting there. \0/

Well, I'm finally starting to get phone & laptop skins put up on Etsy!
My shop is here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SSSkins
yes, I only have 2 designs up so far. I'm planning on adding a bunch more. I just have to go through and plug the pictures into the templates so I've got images to put up. If you are interested in one and have a particular picture of mine in mind, just let me know and I can be sure to do that one sooner rather than later.

You know how in Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog if you hit the laundromat at the right time you'll find Nathan Fillian and Neil Patrick Harris fighting over Felicia Day? Well, not at my laundromat. :( The place actually isn't too bad though. And we really don't have to spend too much time there since our washer still works. It's only about 1/4 mile away, so we just haul our baskets of clean wet laundry in, and it only costs a buck or two. I would much rather have a working dryer in the basement though. :-/

Wisconsin has seceded from the nation. Ok, maybe not in real life, but in our 10 Days in the USA game it has. When we were playing this weekend after one game Rick asked who was hoarding Wisconsin because it had never come up in the draw pile. That's when we realized that none of us had seen it at all. A quick check of the cards, and sure enough, no Wisconsin. The folks at Out of the Box are so awesome though. I pretty much got an immediate response from Leah saying to just email her my mailing address and they'll send a replacement piece.

I just LOVED last nite's Big Bang Theory. Bazinga! I watched Lost tonight w/[livejournal.com profile] hellbob and that 2 hours just flew by. Hopefully at some point they will start answering questions instead of just creating new ones!

Even though there hasn't been a decision made about me (and hopefully Rick) going to the Phoenix Comic Con I started looking around at air ticket prices. It really sucks that it is on a holiday weekend, as it raises all the prices just a little bit. The con isn't even really using the holiday weekend. It goes Thurs-Sun, so the Monday holiday is a moot point. Right now Southwest Airlines isn't the cheapest option, but they seem to have sales fairly often. And I have to remember that if other airlines are just a little cheaper, the checked bag fee may make it essentially the same. At least if we decide to go the con itself is really cheap to register for: only $30!

So, on Twitter I joined that FourSquare location that you're at thingy. That was Sunday nite. Sometime Monday nite I got the Twitter email saying that due to possible phishing activity my password had been reset and to go make a new one. Nothing online has pointed to FourSquare, but since it was literally the next day after I gave them my password, they aren't getting the new one! I'll still update through the app though. It only took 3 checkins for me to become the mayor of West Photo.

Even though I don't want to ever auto publish my tweets to LJ, if I were to use one of those programs could I set it to always do the post as private? I don't feel like I need to broadcast everything, especially when it's one side of a conversation, but it would be nice to have a record of my tweets since they're not permanent like LJ.

Oh crap. It's 1 am already? So much for my plans of doing a post about my weekend. :)

We had a lovely weekend with Becca visiting. We had dim sum at Jun Bo on Friday. I went shopping with her on Saturday. We played board games every night.

Her friend Albert was pretty weird & annoying though. He has zero social skills and no concept of how to converse w/o a computer screen. He also doesn't really shower. Strange boy. Not gonna be sad if I never see him again.

After the headed back to Fargo today, I picked up [livejournal.com profile] lablynne and hit the Birds & Beers gathering that Birdchick had organized. It was at Joe's Garage, so we could watch the 1000s of crows gather to roost for the night. Huge group. Biggest B&B ever. Beekeeper Virginia showed up! I hadn't seen her since I visited her bee hive this summer.

It was a nice weekend. I'm not ready to go back to work tomorrow.

I haven't checked out the prices to fly to Phoenix in May yet, but I did google map the drive. 28 or 29 hours, depending on which of the two routes you take. If I drive I prefer the route through Denver, just because it's a part of the country I've never seen. And Denver is almost exactly the 1/2 way point. It would be a long drive though. Twice as long as the Epic Road Trip To Toronto To Touch James Marsters. Flying will probably be cheaper.

And no, it's not decided yet that I'm going. But until it is definitively decided that I'm not, I'm going to just keep that hope alive! :)

'Tis that time of the year...
It is dreadfully slow and boring at work!

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I acquired our favorite crazy redhead yesterday. Our friend Becca came down from Fargo last night for a couple days. She brought a friend with. I actually can't remember his first name. It's something like Arthur or Arnold. Something with an A. She calls him the Amazing Woo, the Woo, or her Asian. I guess he's some guy she met gaming online, he came out to visit/meet her, and has now been staying with her and her husband for a couple months. Kind of strange, really. They're here because he wants to see the Mall of America.

Today, I got some happy news that may or may not apply to me. JAMES MARSTERS IS GOING TO BE AT THE PHOENIX COMIC CON!!!!! This is a convention that I'd already mentioned to Rick before that I'd like to go to, because besides all the cool people like [livejournal.com profile] spellwight and a bunch w/o LJ who live in Phoenix, Wil Wheaton is one of the PhxCC guests! And Felicia Day! And [livejournal.com profile] chieftyrol (Aaron Douglas)! And John Scalzi! And tons of others!

But James! I really really really really wanna go now. If flying is too expensive, maybe [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm & I can embark on another Epic Road Trip To Touch James Marsters. Seriously, this is the closest he's been to Minnesota since Toronto. Want!

The PhxCC is only $30 for a full weekend pass. Unfortunately the closest Worldmark resort is about 100 miles away, so we can't stay at the timeshare for free, but my father-in-law has a place on the north side of town in Surprise that we could probably stay at. Unfortunately, due to Phoenix's complete lack of a sensible freeway system, it is only 34 miles away but google maps says it is a 50 minute drive, 1 hr 20 mins in traffic. That plus the need to rent a car means that it might just be cheapest and easiest to get a cheap hotel room near the convention center, or near someone I know in Phx who will be going to the con. Of course, and even cheaper route would be for me to just stay in James' room w/him... LOL
