We ordered Chinese here at work and I ordered the dish that I thought I liked with lots of chicken in it and it was actually one with a little chicken and a lot of vegetables. *ugh*
But the chicken that was in there was good, and so was the rice and the wonton soup. Not a total loss, just not what I was expecting to get. This is why I am a creature of habit and always order the thing I already know I love (Chicken Crispers at Chili's, for example.) I don't want to get something I don't like and then be wishing I'd gotten the old standard.

I have been caffeine free since February 10th (with the exception of chocolate, and some random sips of Diet Coke that are less than one can's worth).  Today at work I was hella-tired due to my foolishly trying to catch up on too many Tivo'd shows last night. So I got a 20oz Diet Mountain Dew from the machine. WOW!!!! Now THIS is what caffeine is supposed to do! Too bad daily intake of it creates a tolerance that negates its effects. So yeah, I'm not slipping back into my old caffeinated ways, but it's nice to know that when I am dragging so bad that Ritalin has no effect that I've got a cheap convenient legal drug to pick me up.

My computer at work got a trojan somehow and IS had to re-image it for me. I was able to put all my important docs on a flash drive to save them. I also decided not to copy any podcasts since they can be re-downloaded and they can be so space intensive. Instead, now I have to try to remember all the ones to resubscribe to. (And yes, all you podcast ladies on my flist, yours have already been added back in!)

Because I didn't lose any documents it's actually kind of nice having a "fresh" computer. Seems to be moving a bit less sluggish. I did have to spend a fuckload of time this morning though getting all my settings back the way I like them. The menu bar goes at the TOP of the screen, darn it!

One nice thing was that I learned that it is *OK* to have iTunes. The rule here is "NO INSTALLING ANY SOFTWARE ON YOUR MACHINE! IF YOU NEED IT IS WILL INSTALL IT!" Well, given that I felt it was a better risk to put on iTunes than to see if there was a better podcatcher option. So I did it. Then, when my machine was all new the IS guy was still here making sure everything worked. When I dragged the Windows Media Player shortcut to the recycle bin (and possibly said something derogatory about it...) he smiled and said, "Oh, that's right. You had iTunes." So I laughed and told him he must have imagined it since we aren't allowed to install programs. Then he said that anything by Apple was OK.

It is Friday tomorrow!! Yay! I get to see Jon Stewart tomorrow!

[personal profile] genevra and [profile] akdar will also be joining us because I still needed to get [personal profile] genevra a birthday gift.

And now my lunch is over. See y'all later. :)

School is over for the semester! I'm pretty sure I pulled in A's in both classes. Mostly I'm just glad to be done! Even though other classes have had more homework and more computer projects, for some reason this semester seemed more tiring and harder than past ones. Maybe it's the job stress...

Now that school is done and I'm down to about a month and a half left at the job it's about time for me to find my resume, dust it off, and do a major update!

Seven years! It's been seven years since I last looked for a job. This just seems really surreal since before this my longest time at a job was three years.

Anywho, MySpace. I know that potential employers now days tend to do google searches and look at things like MySpace.

I don't actually use my MySpace for much of anything. I rarely even look at it. I don't like MySpace. Also, MySpace is one of the few places online that I am searchable by my real name but also have the HellZiggy name. When you search my RealFirstName RealLastName there are 28 of us on MySpace, but I am the only one in Minnesota and also there is a picture of me.

So, while there is nothing incriminating or embarassing on MySpace it could potentially lead people here. As y'all know, I'm not one of those LJ'ers who puts everything up under flock. I'm relatively open, and I do have some filters but rarely use them. I don't know that there is anything here that potential employers will have a problem with but I also don't want to lead anyone straight here.

Should I just delete my MySpace? Is there really any good reason to keep it? Will just the simple act of deleting it increase my IQ by 20 points? Feel free to put any arguements for or against deleting it in comments.

As far as going back and doing a blanket friends-only lockdown on my LJ, I don't see that ever happening. I have some friends who don't have accounts and read it. Also, I'm just not that paranoid about all the people out there on the internets. Without LJ I wouldn't have met lovely people like [livejournal.com profile] boliviafang, [livejournal.com profile] dibsy, [livejournal.com profile] kniblet, [livejournal.com profile] irish_dragon, [livejournal.com profile] caoilainn and all the others I knew on LJ before meeting in real life for the first time.

I don't advertise the name "hellziggy" to everyone I meet but I don't hide it either. I'm not sure my mom or dad or brother know that it is my online name, but I wouldn't freak if they found out.

I originally wanted the name "ziggy" when I got on LJ but it was, of course, taken. Now, if it became available, I know I would not buy a rename token to change my name. I may have never been HellZiggy before signing onto LJ four and a half years ago, but now that identity *is* me. I've got a wonderfully unique situation with names online. If you google "hellziggy" it is ALL me. If you google my entire full legal name there are no hits. If you google just my first and last name there are a ton of hits but most aren't me because it's a relatively common last name with a less common first name. I like my different levels of googlability. I also like the fact that if any of y'all see a HellZiggy anywhere out there on the internets and tubes it is me.

Damn. This simple "should I delete my MySpace account" has turned into quite the introspective rambling, hasn't it?

Well, I think I really must be off to bed now. 'night all!

It is Monday. Urg. We hates the Mondays.

If you want to laugh go to [livejournal.com profile] hellbob's journal and click his Snakes on A Plane link. (No fancy linkage from me while at work. So there.)

Had a killer headache yesterday. It was just a wee headache when Becca & I took off to go to Target (new Monkey socks!) and to the MonkeyHouse for her to meet my cute monkeys, B & M. I had food, and I had caffeine, and I had ibuprofen but it didn't go away. Fuck! At that point only sleep will cure it. Which meant that I did not get to attend [livejournal.com profile] romeoa's birthday party with Hellbob. *sigh*
At least the headache was gone when I woke up.

Mason Jennings on Saturday night. It frickin' rocked! Even if we were the furthest from the stage that we have ever been from Mason.

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I get to have really good steaks for dinner tonight! Becca is buying them to thank us for letting her stay. Mmmm. Dead cow!

Oh, Moose made it safely to Arizona last week. He apparently had a really good seat for Serenity. He gets a brief mention during the Slice of Sci Fi Voicemail show, which I'm not sure if it's out yet or not... The beer homemade preserves should be getting delivered to Draco-vista studios today. yay!

Ok. 10 minute break over. Back to the salt mines.

Have a wonderful day my Minions! :)
hellziggy: (Default)
So many things I was going to post about today and I managed to forget almost all of them...
*sigh*
Must remember to write thoughts down since they are fleeting creatures.

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I have acquired a Becca! We get to keep her at least through the weekend, possibly next week too! She is down here from Fargo working for the NWA unions and the hotel had goofed up her reservation so rather than switching to a different hotel she has moved into our uninhabited basement.
I told her to see if she could get them to just give her $50 a night cash for her new residence since that would still be cheaper than the hotel was. She didn't think they'd go for it...

Yes, technically it is the 7th now, but I haven't gone to bed yet, so there!

For all the people who were crying woe! and doom!, there really wasn't much evil afoot today. I survived the date 06-06-06 unscathed.
[livejournal.com profile] akdar wasn't so lucky. It aged him. He's a year older than he was on 06-05-06 (or 05-06-06 for all of you Europeans on my flist).
Of course, as [livejournal.com profile] hellbob pointed out in his LJ, scholars have proved that there was a mis-translation way back in the day and the evil number is actually 616. So I guess that makes last Thursday the day of death, doom, and destruction. *shrug* whatever.

I haven't uploaded yesterday or today's [livejournal.com profile] hundredpics yet.

Earlier today [livejournal.com profile] dibsy posted a picture of a bag that had extra text on the French part of the tag that translated rather nicely: http://dibsy.livejournal.com/17349.html?view=100549
I actually own TWO bags with this tag and so that was what I took a picture of today!

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I babysat [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonkey_b and [livejournal.com profile] technomonkey_m tonight. Have I mentioned lately that I have the cutest & smartest niece & nephew ever? Cuz I do! Very well behaved too.

I have so many "I should really do that" things rattling around in my brain and then when I sit down I don't remember them. fooey. Should write them down! One of them is to put together twelve photo layouts so that I can get my calendar uploaded and ready for people to buy it.
And I keep thinking of icons I need but I never think of them when watching tv with nothing to do.

If you are at CONvergence this year, make sure you pick up the booklet with the writing contest winners. There is some really good stuff in there!

And now, I think I should probably go to bed because my brain is wandering off...

One of Miss [livejournal.com profile] stoney321's recent posts got me to thinking.

What magazines do you subscribe to that you don't even think about not renewing. The ones that you've gotten forever?

For me & Hellbob it is Entertainment Weekly and Discover. Also in the last 2 1/2 years I've been getting MacWorld and MacAddict.

What about you?

*edit*
The Economist?
Lapidary Journal?
the Planetary Society?
National Geographic?
Consumer Reports?
Smithsonian?

Where'd I get such a highbrow class of reader in my journal?

What? None of you are gonna cop to anything like People or Maxim or Playboy?
*grin*

weekend

It was a good weekend.

I got outta work at 1:00 on Friday and saw the aforementioned snakes. Then, Friday night, [livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I headed over to the KalHouse where [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm joined [livejournal.com profile] kaldeth, [livejournal.com profile] kalfoley, GirlChild, [livejournal.com profile] hellbob and me for a game of Killer Bunnies with the new pink booster cards mixed in. I drank some Strongbow Cider while playing and it was yummy. 'Twas a late night though.

Saturday started with meeting Darek & Nissa at Southdale to see The DaVinci Code. All four of us had read the book and the movie was a pretty good retelling of it. Nothing wonderful, but nothing horrible either. We chatted over coffee for a bit after the movie until it was time for us to head to the Mall of America for dinner.

[livejournal.com profile] freyjakj was going to be in town for 3 days and so it was determined that for fitting as smoothly as possible into her schedule that we'd do dinner at the MoA. We had decent food at Ruby Tuesday's. Much like the movie, nothing wonderful, but nothing horrible either. I got to spend pretty much all the time we didn't have food cuddling little Mr. [livejournal.com profile] technomonkey_m who was a perfect angel. [livejournal.com profile] hellbob claimed custody of Ms. [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonkey_b who lived up to her name. I had finished knitting a nano sock for [livejournal.com profile] freyjakj that I was able to bestow upon her in person instead of mailing it! It looks a lot like this one that I made for [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm. I also acquired [livejournal.com profile] dakegra's Moleskine for the Magnificent Moleskine Migration.

After the mall we headed home and when the KalFamily and Mark all got here we trekked through the backyard, through the gap in the hedge, and into the land of Tiki!
Our neighbors, Steve & Tammy, were having a party. We ended up hanging out there until the weeeeee hours of the morning.

Today was Lazy Day. I didn't even shower until about 5 pm and that was only because we were headed back over to Steve & Tammy's for dinner to help them eat up the party leftovers. Steve had already "found" a copy of last night's Doctor Who so I just confiscated a copy of it. Evidence, don't you know?

Six episodes in. I've used my superior psychic abilities to remotely view British airings of all of them from the comfort of my living room. The episode called The Girl in the Fireplace was just freakin' great. I really loved that one. Especially the line mild spoiler ) I really like this new doctor. I didn't want to because I had liked Eccelston so much, but this new one is good too. As far as the Cybermen go, I really don't know anything of their original story, but this one was good.

And now, as usual, I am awake far too late at night and I'm gonna go to bed now.

'night all!

I will remember to leave at 3:30 today. I will!!!

Today's wildlife sighting: 3 (possibly 4) deer. And I got me some good pictures I think. I don't have my Compact Flash reader here at work though so I can't move the pics to my laptop. Silly Sharon!

Holy Cow did it rain last night! [livejournal.com profile] hellbob mentioned something about building an arc but I reminded him that we live on top of a hill. We did not float away.

I caught up on Veronica Mars. I had to resort to tivoing the Sunday episode so that I can catch House also. When Logan does his puppy eye thing? *whimper* Of course he's way too damn young for me!!

I'm still behind on my Smallville watching. I just watched "Mercy" last night which was the Lionel/Martha episode and it was really good. The next one up has lots of Fine/Brainiac though I think!!!!!!!!

In theory I will also have some more flower pictures and some more bird pictures up in the gallery tonight. And, of course, deer!

I stopped at the bird pond again yesterday. Saw the green heron again. Also a Wood Duck, a Mallard, and I chased an egret around the pond. Maybe I'll try to actually stop there sometime when it's NOT raining so that I can just sit down and wait to see what comes. :)

Thank the gods this is a short day - only 8 hours - because I'm ready to leave NOW!!
hellziggy: (Default)
I am congested, my throat hurts, I sound like a frog, I'm hoping for a painless death in my sleep. That is all. The end.

In other news, I got an A in my Interpersonal Communications class. Not too tough considering that half of the larger point projects I got to talk about me! How can you go wrong with a subject like that?

Also, no one else is allowed to plan anything for this weekend. I will be in my friend's wedding and have to turn down all offers! So no fun stuff allowed for the lot of you!

The latest Doctor Who episode w/Tony Head in it (that I haven't seen because that would be illegal) was very very good when I watched it using my psychic powers. I get pretty good reception even all the way to England when I wear my tin foil hat. It will be so much easier though when they make them available here in the States. No episode spoilers here, but I just have to say that after seeing ASH's performance here, it's a shame we didn't get to see much of Ripper in BtVS.

Now that really is all. I'm off to die in my sleep. The end.

Yummy!

Mmmmm. Someone ran to KFC for lunch. It is greasy & disgusting & horribly bad for me, but I loves it so!!!

I got to go to work today to work overtime. Ugh. The only good thing is that [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm did OT too sitting at the desk next to me so we could chat the whole time. Since we both had our iPods there we traded to listen to new stuff. Going from Missy Elliot to Kane made my head go 'splodey!

While driving to work I saw a "Student Driver" car. It was a Corvette! A freakin' Corvette to learn to drive in!

When I see roadkill it always makes me think of [livejournal.com profile] bleaknimue. I realized this morning that when it is a raccoon I also think of [livejournal.com profile] swmbo
hellziggy: (Default)
Home from work! It's a beeyouteeful 54 degrees F. out there! (For you non-americans out there, that would be 12 degrees C. Boy, that makes it sound cold)

I've got the front door open and some windows to get a fresh breeze going through. Lump has been firmly attached to the stool I put in front of the screen door for about an hour now. She loves looking out windows and if she can get fresh air at the same time she considers it a bonus!

i've also got a fire going in the fireplace, because I like the smell & sound of it, and the fact that I've got windows open will keep the house from getting overheated by it!

Rick & I are gonna go to Darek & Nissa's for dinner tonight and then we will be introducing them to the joy of Killer Bunnies!

And now to make your Friday happier, here's a picture of James:

hellziggy: (Default)
After our naps the kids were just running around being all cute. After a bit [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm showed up and we played with the kids some more. Then we all had dinner, the kids got a bath and went to bed, and we broke out the Killer Bunnies cards.

Now [livejournal.com profile] genevra had played once before and she thought it was just "ok" but she wasn't hooked. Mwah ha ha. She's hooked now!
Unfortunately for us she had about the luckiest draws EVER the first game. She had this gigantic Bunny army and me 7 [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm had nuthin'. Whe one that game just because a t the end she was the only one who even had bunnies.
We ended up playing 3 games & going until 1am.

Yay bunnies!!
hellziggy: (Default)
I was outta work today at 1:00 and I knew I wouldn't have a husband all night since he was locked in a basement with other geek boys all shooting each other on the computer. So when [livejournal.com profile] genevra asked if I wanted to come over I said sure and then I invited [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm to come over to play with the monkeys & then play Killer Bunnies after they went to bed.

When I left work I went to Barnes & Noble and spent quite a while browsing. I ended up picking up book 4 of the Dresden series since there have been no plans yet to have James Marsters read for the audio version. I also got a Laurel K Hamilton book. Looks like this one will be more wereleopard porn than vampire porn.

I also spent a while drooling over the Photoshop books I want, specifically the O'Reilly Press Cookbooks series. But I wasn't going to pay full price at the store when I could get 30% off & free shipping online. So I caved and ordered Photoshop Blending Modes for Digital Photographers.

After the bookstore I headed to [livejournal.com profile] genevra's house where the monkeys were upstairs taking naps. Since she was tired too [livejournal.com profile] genevra went upstairs to take a nap and I ended up getting one in on the couch downstairs. :)

whoa, i'm totally falling asleep at the keyboard here so I'll write more tomorrow...

Ever dislike someone just based on their car's license plate?

I did yesterday on the way home from work. It was some fancy expensive car. I don't remember what kind, but the name/model started with the letter T and ended in a vowel. Also, the logo was sort of a T.
Anyway, their plate said BETRDNU. I was just really annoyed that this guy (or girl) thought they were better than me. If I was going to get in an accident on the highway and rear-end another car, I'd want it to be that one!
hellziggy: (Default)
Lunch is almost over.

I don't wanna go back to work.

I should post more of my random facts.

Y'all have amused me again so I think it's also time for a "Funny things wot my Flist said" post.

And I can't do those things if I have to work.

Must. Win. Lottery.
hellziggy: (Default)
Aeryn Sun, my iPod, has been acting up for about a week and a half since right after the trip to the Dells. When I turn her on she's working fine and then after a while the center button stops working. If she's turned off for a while it will start working again. How long it works for correlates directly to how long she's turned off. Also, if she is charging when turned off the button doesn't start working.

So, after work I went to the Apple store to have the geniuses look at her. She worked perfectly. The button never stopped working. Grr. This wasn't something that was sporadic. It would stop working literally every time I used her. I think she just wanted to go visit her homeland...

[livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm went to Southdale with me and we stopped at Games By James. I asked if they had any Killer Bunny promo cards and they did! I've got the Dago Bunny now. Of course, since he looks like Yoda it just leaves me wondering where Chewie is... I got outta there without spending money, but Lucky bought herself the next booster she needed since she will be seeing her family this weekend and she's gotten them hooked on the Bunnies after buying it because I got her hooked!

I got my lazy ass onto the DDR tonight. Did the light workout mode. Did 10 songs and it didn't totally kick my ass. I probably could have done more but I figured I shouldn't push it when it had been so long since the last time I exercised.

I stopped and saw [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonkey_b and [livejournal.com profile] technomonkey_m yesterday after work. I swear, they just keep getting cuter and smarter!!

The holiday cards I mailed yesterday have already started showing up in local mailboxes! Damn, I'm impressed w/the USPS. Not only were they only mailed yesterday, but it was after 4pm when I dropped them off! Also, the package I sent to Iceland arrived safe & sound today!! I think [livejournal.com profile] felisblanco liked the Magnetic Poetry set: "OMG!! OMG!! OMG!! I have a porny magnetic poetry kit!! Hubby says we can never have people over again ever! LMAO This is so cool!! *bounces like a bunny on speed* I'm seeing all sorts of possibilities with that poetry kit, most of them involving getting people drunk and then letting them loose on the fridge! Bwhahahahaha!!" I'm glad ya liked it! It's so sad that Iceland doesn't have Magnetic Poetry. Everyone should have some on their fridge!

In other news, the LJ Haiku meme is going around again. :)
