One of Miss [livejournal.com profile] stoney321's recent posts got me to thinking.

What magazines do you subscribe to that you don't even think about not renewing. The ones that you've gotten forever?

For me & Hellbob it is Entertainment Weekly and Discover. Also in the last 2 1/2 years I've been getting MacWorld and MacAddict.

What about you?

*edit*
The Economist?
Lapidary Journal?
the Planetary Society?
National Geographic?
Consumer Reports?
Smithsonian?

Where'd I get such a highbrow class of reader in my journal?

What? None of you are gonna cop to anything like People or Maxim or Playboy?
*grin*
Y'all must be edumacated or sumthin'

Years and years ago it was PC Magazine. That was pretty much back in the pre-Windows days, back when I wrote my own apps and did tons of (DOS) batch programming. But I let that lapse many, many years ago, and currently have no magazine subscriptions to my name.

I don't have any either. I used to subscribe to Runners World, but as I haven't been running for a while, I cancelled it.

Saveur and The Economist. I miss Smithsonian, but we really had to thin down the piles. And I miss what Gourmet used to be....

Lapidary Journal and Art Jewelry Magazine. For [livejournal.com profile] akdar, it's PC Gamer and the Planetary Society one.

We get Yankee and that one is fantastic. National Geographic is a must in our house. I should really get a subscription to 2600, but just buy it off the shelf (too lazy to get the subsription).

Consumer Reports.
I'm sad to say that this year, after many many years, I had to let Smithsonian go. I don't pay over $30 for any subscription (although I would if Consumer Reports eventually charged that much). I really did read that one, and always had some obscure new facts to share which frequently prompted my friend to advise me against sharing same on, say, a first date. Apparently my friends don't think men will find the history of the Pernambuco tree very interesting. *snort*
I also get Real Simple, which I love, but I've only been getting it for a year.
Also also, because my friends have kids in school, if you get my drift, I recently subscribed to Today's Christian Woman and yes, yes, I'll say it: Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion! So there.
I have no idea what's gotten into me.

..oh, and my mom keeps my Reader's Digest subscription coming.

Haha. My mom sent me Readers Digest for years. I used to read it when I was a kid, but finally I had to beg her to stop.

I do the word thingy on the back page. And I read the funny stuff.
A friend recenly told me I should send some of my quotes in to RD. I said they were her quotes, but she said I deserved the money since I was the one who bothered to keep them all these years.

I'd share, of course. I'm nice that way.

Oh, I'd forgotten about the word thingy. That was fun. And all I ever read were the funny anecdotal bits, but not the jokes because I found them silly.

I get Saveur plus a variety of medical journals (New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Infectious Diseases, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal and the Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene). The only one I read regularly is Saveur. Actually, I found out a couple years ago that I'd managed to pay my subscription through 2011. Basically, every time they'd send a renewal notice, I'd renew. And it was cheaper to renew for more than one year at a time. They're still sending me renewal notices, btw.

She's an instigator, I'm telling you! Well... I suppose I don't have to tell you.

So see, she didn't say "friend" instead of "sister", I just assumed. I think you're my first set of sibling friends on LJ.
