JoCo and Paul & Storm are playing in Denver tonight. One of the Denver TV stations had JoCo on for an interview and a live acoustic song today. Brian, the awesome host of Coverville, recorded it and put it up on YouTube for us non-Denver people to enjoy.

The tickets for the Coverville 500 concert at the New Media Expo have gone on sale! Unfortunately the cost had to go up to $28 because Brian had to change the venue. :( But $28 is still a bargain for a concert featuring:

Richard Cheese
Jonathan Coulton
Chance
Natalie Gelman
The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd
and hosted by Dan Klass

All of you who are going to the NME should come to the show!

Even though [livejournal.com profile] hellbob won't be able to join me - :( - I'm going out to Vegas in August! I'll be going for the New Media Expo. I'll be doing the free Exhibit Hall and Keynotes Only registration. Since I don't actually do any podcasting, it would be silly to do the full conference registration at $349!
It's gonna be so cool to meet all these people that I know just through podcasts and the internets!
If any of you on my flist are going to be there *looks towards Phoenix* be sure to let me know so we can meet!

But the BEST part of this trip?
The Coverville 500 Concert!
I'll finally meet Brian Ibbott in person after 3 years of email correspondence & keeping his song database for him. The concert he's going to have was the deciding factor in me going out there.
To celebrate episode 500 of Coverville he's hosting a concert of some of the favorite artists who have been played on his show: Richard Cheese, Jonathan Coulton, and Chance. Also, there will be a singer named Natalie Gelman who I haven't really heard. w00t! You know I loves me some JoCo. And Chance does the most awesome cover of Kelis' Milkshake ever!
If you are going to the NME and want to go to the concert, tickets will go on sale on June 1st. It's at a venue down by the MGM, so it's an easy monorail ride down from the Hilton. Only $20!

I'm getting a copy of the new iWork!
Brian kicks frickin' ass! He's giving it to me because of the work on the database that I do for him. Holy freakin' cow! His offer was sooo unexpected.

OK, so clan Foley has departed and I caught up on reading LJ. It was at skip 225! After only 2 weekend days! Of course, two of you on the flist were posting blogathon posts...
I've got many tabs open with the intention of commenting.
This may or may not actually happen tomorrow.

We left off on the last post with me having gone to a kick-ass Sunspot concert.

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob woke me up at 7 the next morning so we could head on up to the Iron Range. His grandmother's 95th birthday is tomorrow and so the whole family was up on Saturday to throw her a party. We were in charge of bringing the drinks so we stopped partway up and bought a ton of pop & ice, so the pop was cold by the time we got to town. The party was in the senior center in Keewatin. After that, we had dinner at Valentini's in Chisholm with Rick's dad, step-mom, sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew. Mmmmmm. Prime rib! Then it was back to Hibbing to stay at his dad's apartment for the night.

After a quick stop to see grandma again before leaving this morning, we hit the grocery store. $85 worth of meat later... we hit the road for home. I convinced [livejournal.com profile] hellbob we should listen to Coverville, and we went through 4 or 5 episodes before Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me came on NPR.

After getting home I turned on the internets and had to skip way far back. I didn't get to read anything though until the Foley's left. Now I have to go to bed because I'm gonna be getting up early tomorrow.
You'll never guess why...

I'm going to be working! At the place that laid me off! They are sooooo behind now that they got rid of two people that they really couldn't afford to get rid of and so they offered to let me come work on a temporary 'on call, as needed' basis. Works for me. They have to work around my schedule because I am doing `them a favor, but I can bring in some money while still looking. If I'm still there when school starts I will totally work fewer hours to fit my school schedule.

Of course, this isn't a permanent solution and I still want to find something else, but what the hell! I got my 7-week severance pay already!

So, off to bed with me now! :)

Brian and his wife Tina were totally raving about my calendar on the last episode of Coverville!! And Brian also put a link to the lulu.com page in the show notes!

[livejournal.com profile] chebutykin posted last week about getting an email from Brian Ibbott.
I picked on her a little bit saying "Well doesn't everybody get email from him all the time?" 'cuz there have been many emails between me & him in the last year & a half. (You don't get the title "Official Coverville Historian" from just one email, after all)
Well, Cheb, today I got one from him that made *me* squee! He loved my calendar and just ordered one!
I know it's pretty nice and I'm darn proud of it, but when someone I've never met thinks enough to order it, it just makes me happy. :) Family just has to kind of like it to spend the money. Strangers have to really like it!
Yay! This made me happy. :)

If you're looking for a specific cover song or artist that's been played on Coverville, the database is updated through episode 251

Sweet. I got an email from Brian and there are some cool things afoot for the Coverville website. :) Of course, since he's only telling about a half-dozen people or so, y'all will have to wait to find out...

Music!

OK, kids. I just got an iTunes gift certificate from Brian over at Coverville.

What music do I need to get?
hellziggy: (Default)
The internets are dead today. I'm at lunch and I didn't even have to go back on my friends page before hitting my posts from last night.

We got last Friday off instead of today.

If y'all haven't started listening to Coverville yet, the last few shows are good ones to jump in on since Brian had his listeners vote on their favorite covers. We could nominate one song, and then when the nominations were in he put together a ballot and we could vote on 5.

There were 5 shows with 8 songs each for the top 40 covers voted on by his listeners. #1 was Johnny Cash doing NIN's Hurt.

www.coverville.com

So go, listen, enjoy.

The song scramble contest that he had that I entered, I didn't win. But I was apparently one of only TEN people to get all six right. So yes, when he says Sharon Snyder when listing them, that is me.

Another cool thing... at the end of the show he's thanking people who've let him use their music, donated money or stuff, or just supported the show in some way. I was listening & completely surprised when he included me in the thank yous. That was pretty cool, cuz I don't really consider maintaining the uber-database of the show playlists to be work. Especially since updating it now consists of just copy/paste from the Coverville site.

So, if you ever wanna know if a specific song has been played on Coverville, or if an artist has either been covered or done a cover and Brian has played it, just let me know.

In other news, as you can see in teh pictures of [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm's Jayne iHat, [livejournal.com profile] hellbob has his Nano. We ran to the Apple Store yesterday and exchanged the 2 GB I got him for a 4 GB (he was originally going to be getting a 4 GB, but they didn't have them in stock 4 days before Xmas...)

We just barely got to the store before closing, and while checking out I got to chat with [livejournal.com profile] s4 for a while.

Then we went and bought our copy of 40 Year Old Virgin, because Mark hadn't seen it yet. Funny funny stuff!

Pretty Gay Cowboys:
Southdale theater has Brokeback Mountain!! We need to go this week!! I don't know when. What works for you?
hellziggy: (Default)
Brian at Coverville is doing an end of the year countdown of people's favorite covers. He's also doing a contest with snippets of 6 songs that will be in this year's countdown, that you have to name the title & artist of. Four of them had actual lyrics and the other two were just sort of la la la parts of songs. Two of them I got right off the bat, first listen, because they were two of the songs I'd voted for in the top 40. The other two with lyrics didn't take much listening to find. The two with no words sucked, but I finally found them! Yay!
