I had planned to post earlier tonight as part of my goal of actually posting on LJ more than once every few weeks. But balancing the checkbook took precedence. At least that's done now. I also didn't post right away because I've fallen behind on reading y'all so I'm currently going back through my flist trying to see what I've missed. Don't be surprised if you start getting random comments to older posts. :)

We have to actually plan when to do laundry now here at the HellHouse, instead of just doing it when we need it or have time. Our dryer quit working about 2-3 weeks ago. When you hit the button it does about half a rotation then just stops and turns off. We don't know yet if it's fixable or if we'll have to replace it. Either way, until we have one we are washing our laundry here and then running to the laundromat 5 blocks away to dry it. I'm also going to get some rope to string in the basement and some clothes pins so that we can hang stuff to dry that we don't need right away.

Then I got to wipe up water in the dining room. The whole snow - melt - rain - freeze - thaw - etc of this winter caused an ice dam on our roof and now we have water coming in through the frame of one of our dining room windows. I don't know the specifics of how ice dams work or if it's a permanent leak now or what, but [livejournal.com profile] hellbob was pretty upset by it so I know it's not good. And the way our windows are set up there was really no good way to put a bucket under it. Luckily we have a camera tripod, so we've got a cake pan balanced on that with one edge on the window sill. *sigh*

My toothpaste tastes funny. I don't know if we just bought the wrong version of Colgate Total last time, or if they've changed it. I just know the taste is a tiny bit different. I'd bet that [livejournal.com profile] hellbob didn't even notice. But I've always been particular about having to use the same brand of toothpaste everytime and I don't like it when the tastes change! The off taste was bothering me all day until I ate lunch. I don't want to brush my teeth before bed even though I know I should!

And on that note, I'm off to brush my teeth and go to bed. G'nite all!

I know at least a few of you mentioned that you knew someone that we should check out for our new roof & siding.
I also know I told you that there was no way I would remember.
So here's the post. If you have someone to recommend for our home repairs, please leave their info in the comments.
Also, if you would, could you please say whether they've actually done work on your house or not. We won't be making any decisions on who we hire until we've gotten some estimates.
Also, depending on what kind of estimates we get we might have one company do the siding and a different one do the roof/gutters.
Thank you!!!

There was a lot of hail here in our neighborhood a month ago. We didn't see it because we were in Madison that weekend but it obviously hit our house because our BBQ grill cover was SHREDDED.

Well, today we had the insurance inspection and we are getting new roofs for both the house and the garage, new siding, and new gutters! w00t!
We will also be taking advantage of the fact that the house will briefly be siding-less to have the windows in the dining room knocked out along with part of the wall and having patio doors put in! yay!

Now we just need to decide what color we want the HellHouse to be... Hellbob has already vetoed hot pink.

Well, we didn't get the predicted pile of snow Thursday night/Friday morning. But we did have something else fall out of the sky onto our lawn:

It's 4:20 am.
The last folks left at about 3:30 am and my very tired [livejournal.com profile] hellbob went to bed while I took care of some of the cleaning up.
Hopefully a good time was had by all. For less than a week's notice we actually had a fairly large turnout.
It's late and I'm tired so I'll forget some people, but some of the folks who made it were (in alphabetical order, not order of appearance) [livejournal.com profile] akdar, [livejournal.com profile] davidkingsley, [livejournal.com profile] dragonsden, [livejournal.com profile] frozendragon, [livejournal.com profile] genevra (with TechnoMonkey and GiggleMonkey), [livejournal.com profile] gingerpook[livejournal.com profile] gunthar, [livejournal.com profile] irish_dragon, [livejournal.com profile] jmanna, [livejournal.com profile] kaldeth, [livejournal.com profile] kalfoley, two of the kalChildren, [livejournal.com profile] mhuot, [livejournal.com profile] michaellee, [livejournal.com profile] moneygod, [livejournal.com profile] montechristobo, [livejournal.com profile] nicepersonality, [livejournal.com profile] passaddhi, [livejournal.com profile] petsnakereggie, [livejournal.com profile] shrique (With non-LJ wife and child), [livejournal.com profile] windelina, our neighbors Steve & Tammy, and their friends Glen, Carol, Kelly and Daniel, some of Rick's past & present co-workers, Jeanine, Mark, Art & Marnie (and child) and a guy that Rick invited when he was at the liquor store. (Actually, he ran into his friend Jeff at the liquor store and invited him. It wasn't just a random buying alcohol guy...)
I know there were other people here too, but it's now 4:30 am. I don't remember who. :) Heck, if it wasn't for the LJ client making it so easy to put user names in I would have missed half those people in the list too!
When it was just a few of us left, we settled in to watch the Family Guy Stewie Uncensored DVD which [livejournal.com profile] hellbob and I hadn't watched yet. Wicked funny! Comic genius, I tell ya!
And now it's time to sleep!
Thank you to you all who showed up, and I hope you had a good time!
Nighty-night!

My big accomplishment for the day? I cleaned out my yahoo inbox.
I know it doesn't seem like much, but we're talking over 700 messages not even counting the bulk mail folder!
I've had that email address for at least 5 years & it is the one I use when signing up for stuff online or for entering contests, so it gets put on a lot of mailing lists. Most of them that get into the inbox I can tell where they are from. I enter a contest & then I start getting newsletters from that company. But after so long it had started to get kind of out of control.
So I went through, deleted most everything. Looked at the other stuff that might have been important. Deleted most of that too. Actually finally made a folder to store things like password emails & product registration emails. Damn. It's done. Now I just have to check it daily for a while and start unsubscribing as stuff comes in so that it doesn't overwhelm again...
Also, I bought paint today to paint the stairwell. Instead of a lovely shade of mint green, the stairwell to the basement will be Moonlit Yellow!
And my dad came over today and hooked up the stove to the gas line so [livejournal.com profile] frozendragon can cook downstairs now instead of having to haul stuff upstairs.

Went to PetSmart today and took Lump with me. She is always so well behaved & it is so much fun to see everyone's reactions when they realize the critter I have is a cat, not a puppy. Not too many cats will tolerate PetSmart! Luckily the cart doesn't bother her since I had to get a bag of Lump chow, a bag of Gabe chow, puppy toys for Luna, litter for my sister's two cats, and 100 crickets for [livejournal.com profile] chebutykin's geckos & skinks. Not too much of an adventure. As I said she is incredible well behaved & mellow (she didn't get the name Lump for nothing!)
The adventure started at my sister's house. She has a dog. A very bouncy dog. We think Kyanna may be part Tigger. I opened the door to deliver the kitty litter & Kyanna wanted to play. Lump didn't. Lump pulled out of her collar & ran under Jason's car. Kyanna followed, as this was obviously part of the game. Lump keeps swatting Kyanna's nose, which is actually kind of funny, since Lump's lack of claws prevents any damage which pisses her off & makes her swat more... So we grab Kyanna, put her back in the house. Grab Lump, recollar her. So much for my plan of leaving Lump at Casa Darst while I run to the mall to collect Waldenbooks paychecks & ST:TNG season 4 DVD...I ended up having to run home first because I did NOT want a baked cat when I ran into the mall.
Poor Lumpy was so happy to be home. At least I now have her regular food so I can stop giving her Senior formula. And I've got the Gabester's Sensitive Skin formula to mix 50/50 w/his Senior so he'll stop being such a cranky bitch!
Then I got to mow the lawn because HellBob is off playing Computer Doctor at Tom's house. Mowing just doesn't suck nearly as much with a self propelled mower!!
Now it's time for the tough decision: work in the darkroom, or plop my butt down in front of the TV and just RELAX!! I think the TV is going to win today. I don't really feel like inhaling chemicals.

I hate mowing the lawn! It just feels like I'm walking in circles... Oh, wait... On the plus side, I really am a fan of our new self propelled mower!
As soon as I recover from the heatstroke (in retrospect 1:00 may have been a bad time to start mowing) HellBob & I are off to see XXX with our godson's family. Even if it's not very good I expect to have fun watching Vin Diesel!
