Christmas Card PSA
Dec. 8th, 2006 12:13 pmOK people. I know some of you are doing Christmas cards. For *insert diety here*'s sake, when you put the family name, DON'T USE AN APOSTROPHE!!!!
correct: The Smiths
incorrect: The Bush's
correct: The Stewarts
incorrect: The Cheney's
correct: The Snyders
incorrect: The Schneider's
If you do, I will be focused on how much it annoys me rather than how cute the picture of you/your kids/your pets is.
Thank you.
p.s. If your name ends in "S", it doesn't matter what you do because that one always confuses me.

Date: 2006-12-09 06:42 pm (UTC)My rant is mostly about people who send photo cards and the card has the family name printed on it. We got one from Rick's cousin and it was printed as "The Smith's" and I just wanted to scream!!! When I worked at the photo lab over Xmas we were told that was wrong and to watch for it and then suggest to people that they should change it. We even had a cute little "how to do your cards" sheet that pointed out why it was wrong.

Date: 2006-12-09 06:38 pm (UTC)What spawned my PSA was a card from Rick's cousin. It was a photo card and the type on the side said:
The Smith's
John, Jane,
Mike & Bob
(Names changed to protect the apostrophe ignorant)
And it just reminded me of the Christmas seasons when I worked at a photo lab and would have to try to convince people that they were wrong and did not want an apostrophe in there.
