My new camera came today!!
Also, my pink mystery flowers bloomed today.
So I took a picture of them.
stoney321, oh Master Gardener Goddess that you are... What is this??
It's a thick straight stalk with several flowers all clustered on top.


The pictures are kinda dark because it was getting dark when I took them.

Thanks. Those were just the quick run outside before it's dark & use my new camera pictures. Of course I didn't bother to grab a tripod for the shot w/the 300 mm. :)

Looks like a variety of pink star lily to me. My parents have these beautiful orange speckled ones growing in their yard. I need to plant star lilies at the new house next spring, they're my favorite flower.

The flowers certainly look like lilies, but the straight leafless stem isn't very lily-like...

Actually, the straight stem is very lily-like. You're thinking of daylilies (the ones I had at my old house), which are different than lilies. I don't know why the stems are leafless though.

And wow! I want my camera to zoom like that! Of course, I don't want it to be any bigger than it is now. hehe

Well, mine have just come up, too. Those are an old fashioned and hard to come by bulb: surprise lily. Also known as Spider lily. they are HARD TO FIND. I love them.

The little old lady we bought our house from didn't know what they were & also said that she hadn't planted them, they just appeared one year.

If I were to cut one of those stalks to put the flowers in a vase, would that affect the plant, or would it come back next year just fine?

Yes, you can cut them - the LEAVES are what make the food, and they'll show up soon.

Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle low to the ground, add a splash of sprite or 7up to the water, and they'll last longer.

Forgot to mention: you'll have thick, strappy leaves that appear much later this year in the flower stem's place. Leave them - they make food for next year's blooms.
