While [livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I were test driving cars on Saturday he commented that one of them had a ton of trunk space (the Impala that we ended up buying)
I asked "How many bodies?"
He replied "At least 3 or 4"

Gotta love a man who not only measures trunk space by how many bodies would fit, but doesn't even think twice when someone else uses the same measuring system!

Well, the '89 Bronco that Rick bought 2 years ago died on Friday. Not too bad considering we expected the thing to just be getting us by for 6 months or so. And it still runs, it just dropped the transmission so it won't go anywhere. Hellbob really couldn't have picked a much better place for it to die. It was the bottom of the exit ramp near home and the gas station literally right across the street is the one AAA dispatches tow trucks from so he was able to just walk across the street, say it was dead, and get it towed on home.
Saturday we went out in the lovely drizzle to look at cars. We went to the Saturn dealer first and we found a 2002 Chevy Impala for a good price and decided to get that. We go back tonight to sign the financing papers and Hellbob will have a functioning vehicle again!
Of course, now he'll be able to sneak into the house all stealthy like since I won't hear him coming from a block away!

I had a whole day where I didn't have to go anywhere!
I finally got in some darkroom time! It's been over a month since I've had a large enough chunk of time to spend in there! I got some decent shots at the Como Zoo, and I finally made contact sheets for all my negatives.
We got our car back from the shop on Friday. After the boats Jey had gotten us to drive, our Saturn seems so small. It's nice to be back in my own car though.
Our BBQ last weekend was a roaring success. We probably had 50 people or so over the course of the evening. The Foleys showed up early & brought Luna with them. We started the fire at about 9 pm or so and had people here until after 3 am. The Foley kids were crashed out on the living room floor & so was Luna so Tom & Lisa decided that they would just stay. Mark had an attack of Markolepsy in the recliner. And a couple of Mel's friends were crashing downstairs.
Since Rick, Tom & Lisa showed no signs of going to bed anytime soon I scooped up Luna & brought her in to sleep with me. Charlie Brown said it best: Happiness is a warm puppy! Rick kicked her out when he came to bed though. :(
Tomorrow, we have lunch at Rick's sister's house to see his dad & stepmom before they leave this cold world for Arizona.

Arrgghh!
Our pretty new car is squished!
HellBob was driving to the park & ride this morning. It's 8 blocks away. 8! and he gets in an accident. he was turning left & a van pulled out from behind a different one & ran right into him. He's not hurt, but the Saturn is.
rear fender & the bumper are toast & probably damage to the trunk as well. Cop said it would have been HB's fault because he was turning into traffic, but the guy was nice enough to turn it into his fault by making it a hit & run (after HB got his plate number!) So now the cops & insurance company can try to sort it all out.
The car is already at the shop. Even though we don't have rental coverage in our insurance, our friend who works there is the son of one of the big guys, so he borrowed one of the used cars for us to drive. He said he couldn't get us one of the nice ones because they didn't have plates, so we had to settle for a 2000 Buick LeSabre. I'm pretty sure I can live with that. :)
*sigh*
And this is after such a lovely weekend.
Now I have to nap, because I took the day off work to sleep in....... I didn't think to request it off at Waldenbooks so I have to go work there at 5:30.
