[livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I are going on vacation to Washington State! We'll be out there for just shy of a week! We're gonna see his cousin and her family, and she wants us to spend a night or two with them in Seattle, and then we'll be heading up to Birch Bay, which is just spitting distance of the Canadian border.
No specific plans of what to do yet, so anyone who is familiar with the area, we will gladly take suggestions! :)
Most likely we'll fly out of Mpls on the afternoon of Fri, June 4th, and we have to be back by the evening of June 10th because I have to work on Fri, June 11th.
I want to go whale watching! And I want to go to Canada! (I've never ever been out of the US) And I want to take cool nature pictures! And I'm sure that [livejournal.com profile] hellbob wants to go to that funky Music Experience museum thingy.

The Experience Music thing is defeintely cool, at least from the outside. I have never been inside, but spent a long while trying to figure out the outside. Apparently that's what happens when Frank Gehry gets into the swing of things and drops LSD. Find a postcard, you will not be able to get far enough away from it to take a good picture of it :)

Seattle is good, in general. I like the beaches at Burien (suburb) and Queen Anne Hill (a little like Uptown, but more Victorian). Taking the ferry to Bremerton or Victoria (B.C.) is a good way to see the Sound, and possibly set foot in Canada. We used to go out there for the 4th of July, and watch several fireworks shows from the ferry. Super cool. Whale watching will be harder, as you may need to out to the actual ocean to do it. I have faith there will be a fairly easy way to do this, but I have never tried. I do like the Aquarium there, though.

According to the guidebook I have May & June are the best time to see killer
whales, because they follow the salmon into Puget Sound. It says that at that time of year you can see them 90% of the time.

That's cool! I didn't know they came into the Sound. Now you have to bring back pictures.
