Darwin's not on his own this year...

My normal method of "gardening" is what I call the Darwin Garden. I take the small patch of garden area near the house and sprinkle a bunch of flower seeds and wait to see what blooms through survival of the fittest. You don't get the best results that way, but it's a heck of a lot less work than real gardening.
This is our 8th spring in this house, however, and the grass and weeds were getting pretty well established in the garden plot so I hacked and hoed and shoveled and cleared out the top layer. Then I spread 4 cubic feet of Miracle Gro enhanced black garden soil out. Of course, for the planting, I still just sprinkled a bunch of flower seeds. But I figure that without the grass, clover, violets, and other assorted riffraff the flowers will have a better fighting chance this year. If so, you'll see photos when they bloom!

Funny you should bring up Darwin. Here in America, we know that if an opinion is popular, that's proof enough that it is also "true."

Despite the real origin of the phrase, "Darwin Garden" just sounds cooler than "Spencer Garden."

As for wondering why hellbob bit me, I can neither confirm or deny that the Hellbob was what bit me today! Oddly, last time I did a "What Bit Me" poll, Hellbob had the most votes other than "ticky box with teeth" which I didn't add this time because I didn't do a ticky box poll...

I used to do the "Darwin's Garden" technique, but after it started turning into a bunny buffet every year it just didn't seem worth it. The rabbits were pleased with me, at least. :P
