I got pulled over this morning. :( Yes, I was speeding. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. I was only a block and a half from work.

I didn't get the ticket for speeding though, I got it for "Unreasonable acceleration/exhibition driving" which is apparently the same fine but doesn't affect car insurance as much.

And actually, *I* didn't get the ticket.

My last name is Snyder. Nowhere on the ticket is the last name Snyder. The cop forgot to put my last name! He put one of my middle names in the last name slot.

Officially and legally that can be your loophole out of paying.

Just sayin'.

You could fight it, and then the judge would be all "Did the policeman intend the ticket to be for you?" "Were you speeding?" and "Why the hell are you clogging up my court?"

I believe that you still must pay it. ;)

Google and the interwebs are split about 50/50 on if it would get the ticket thrown out. A lot of the accounts I've seen say that if the vehicle's plate number and the Drivers License number are both correct it falls into allowable human error. Also, since the three names on the ticket are all on my license I'm not sure the argument for wrong name would work anyway. He got the names right, he just forgot one of them. I dunno. I've got 21 days to decide if it's worth the hassle.

That's just it. Ethically I don't think I could fight the ticket knowing that yes, I was actually speeding. But I also don't want to spend $140!
I remember what a pain in the ass it was trying to get two parking tickets thrown out, and the traffic hearing officer was going to make me pay them anyway even though I had a police report proving that the car was stolen when the tickets were incurred. I can't imagine this being less of a hassle.

Wow- fines have gone up since I got mine. I'm sorry you got a ticket. That stinks.

That explains your comments about cops and speeding this morning!

You could see if you could see a hearing officer to pay just a bit extra and keep it from hitting your record. I did that with my speeding ticket.
