Memosity wherin I get you to talk about yourself!

Reply to this meme, and I'll pick one of your LJ interests. You tell me a whole bunch of stuff about it, and we all learn a bit more.
And it's not part of the meme, but I like talking about myself so you can also pick one of my interests and I shall bore you to tears babbling about it!

Even better -- it's got to be a reference to Gabriel the cat! (co-kitty to Lump).

Yes, the angel. Also the musician Peter Gabriel. Rick named his kitty cat after both of those people. Rick has had Gabe since he was just a wee little kitten, but I didn't meet him until he was no longer wee or a kitten. He's our wonderful fuzzy cranky old man!
Random fact: Gabriel was sitting on my lap the very first time Rick kissed me!

The ones I read (Njal's Saga and Volsunga Saga) were for my Medieval Epic and Romance class. They were pretty awesome too - Iceland has this incredible tradition of legends that I had no idea existed. Volsunga Saga is sort of the same story as The Nibelungenlied, which is about Sigfried (the one Wagner wrote The Ring about, I think), with sort of the same events and sort of the same characters. It's got lots of gods and women who kill their own husbands and then burn in the pyre flames. Incest. Dragon slaying. Very cool. Njal's Saga is this very long chronicle of an Icelandic family and all of the things that happen to it, circling around revenge and its necessary problems. That one I enjoyed less, but it was still written with a very wry, dry humor, and awesome battle scenes.

That one's still on there, eh?
I had been doing a lot of scrapbooking of my photos, but I actually haven't done a page in about 3 years or so. I've mostly switched to digital now. I journal here and my photos are at Dreamflyte.com.
I've got a whole mess of photos that really should be organized some day...

I've always kind of been interested in the idea. Sounds like it's easier to do it digitally, though!

My question to you is about the "twin peeks". If, by chance, you AREN"T talking about "the Girls", then I change my question to "Salad Bowls".

Twin Peaks was a really good, really weird tv show back in the 90's. It was directed by David Lynch and the story was based around a murder in the small town of Twin Peaks.

Salad Bowl is a game I learned from [livejournal.com profile] theseamster that we play at a lot of the geek gatherings here. You get a bunch of blank pieces of paper and everyone writes names on them like charades. The names can be nicknames, real people, characters, historical, animals, etc. The only thing is that it has to be a name that at least one other person playing knows. So if I was playing with friends I probably couldn't use the name of anyone at work. After the names are written, THEN the teams are randomly picked. Each team then takes on minute with one person trying to get the rest of their team to guess the name they are giving clues to. You have to be really creative when you don't know who the person is.

Ahhh...NOW I remember the Twin Peaks show. To think I thought you were referring to body parts...lol. (kidding..duh) :)

Salad Bowl sounds like fun. My group of friends aren't really into games, which bums me out because I think that is a great way to spend the night....music, a few brewskies and some games to see how silly we can get...lol.

Thanks for answering!

Tell me about seaglass!

Ya know, I look at my "interests" and I do seem a tad lame. It's just that putting down the little things in life that make me happy or that intrigue me seems silly. For instance, I like taking the Redi-Whip bottle of whipped cream and filling up my mouth with it like I did when I was a kid and my mom wasn't looking. Now really, should I be putting something like THAT in here?? :)

Okay...Sea Glass:

I live by the ocean. For years and years glass bottles have been finding their way to the ocean floor. The tide sends them tumbling against rocks, which breaks them. The constant turning of the tides softens the edges of the glass.....now you have Sea Glass.
(Just a lesson in Sea Glass 101 for those who don't know what it is.)

Each summer we (friends and their kids) all scout around at the beach to see who can find the most unique piece of glass. Green and brown are the normal finds (Heinken and Bud bottles)....but lucky is the one who finds the blue, yellow and sometimes red glass. Huge pieces don't count, unless the shape is something unique. Needless to say, we all have mason jars lining our window-sills which are FILLED with the glass.

Hey...I guess it's the simple things in life that make us happy...lol. :)

Which of your interests are bands?

I'm not very musical, so I don't want to pick a band by accident.

I'm mostly Bohemian. I thought I was about 1/2 German but then I found out that when my Grandfather on dad's side came over with his family, his dad told them to tell people they were from Germany rather than Bohemia. I don't know why. I knew I was Bohemian on mom's side.
About 4 generations back we do have some 1st cousins marrying, but I don't think it was a weird thing back then...
