Bones

Hee hee! I'm watching this week's Bones and they showed an x-ray of a girl's leg who had a bone graft. There were screws in the x-ray holding the bone in place & they were just like my screw! Someone should tell that girl that when they are removed you can ask the doctor to let you keep them and then you can put them on your key chain!

Oooh, I kept mine too! Although someone might also want to tell her that having a screw screwed back out of your bone feels just as awful as it sounds. The other screw? It's staying in TILL I DIE.

I saw my chest X-ray a few years ago: five white stripes. Hrm. It didn't occur to me to think about my bypass. They held my ribcage together, and I don't think i'll be getting them out for souvenirs. : )

I wonder if I'll pass the airport clearance...

They did it with you awake? For my screw removal they did a sedation that wasn't as deep as anesthesia (and didn't require the whole throat tube thing) but pretty much kept me asleep through it. I remember waking up in the middle and asking a question. Something like "have you started already?" and the doctor saying yes and then I went right back to sleep.
I didn't think it was going to be a big deal but then they were asking if I brought crutches and he gave me a painkiller prescription. When I filled that I thought "Oh dear gods, this is gonna hurt when the drugs wear off!" because the prescription was for Vicodin. 90 of them! Dr. W. wrote something down wrong, because I'm pretty sure the screw removal wasn't supposed to need more painkillers than the actual cut the bone, move it, screw it into place surgery!
So yeah, slept through it, got lotsa drugs, put the screw on my keychain.

Lucky you! Nope, they did mine with really no anesthesia...a little skin local for the incision, then they screwed that baby out. I was screaming, and I was embarrassed, but damn! It hurt!

Dang! And here I'd been thinking since then "Why'd they bother knocking me out? It was just a tiny incision..." And before I had it done my hubby joked that he could do it with a pocket knife and a cordless screwdriver. :)

We've both got a screw loose now! hee!
