I'm gonna be putting together a "Minnesota" playlist in my iTunes & probably also making some mix disks from it to mail off to various parts of the world.

Any & all suggestions are welcome.

I'm looking for both ideas of Minnesota singers/groups, and songs that specifically mention Minnesota, Minneapolis, and any other Minnesota places & things.

Feel free to suggest the obvious too.
The first people that spring to my mind are:
Gear Daddies / Martin Zellar
Prince
Mason Jennings
The Honeydogs
Trip Shakespeare

*edit* OK, lots of groups have been suggested. How 'bout songs that mention Mpls/MN? Things like Johnny Cash's "Big River" (also covered by Trick Pony) that has the line "I met her in St. Paul, Minnesota"
I'm kinda torn on which version of "Postcard from a Hooker in Minneapolis" to get. I know [livejournal.com profile] minervacat just loves Neko Cases cover of it, but iTunes has one by another chick (Kacey something?) that I think I like just a little bit more.

Husker Du
Soul Asylum
The Time
Judy Garland

There's an Everything But The Girl song about Minneapolis and Saint Paul but I can't remember the name of it. It might even be "Twin Cities".

I think if you don't include Trip Shakespeare's "Toolmaster of Brainerd", it'd be a crime...

Other suggestions...

Tom Waits - "9th and Hennepin"
Lemon Interupt - "Minneapolis" (actually a trip hop instrumental)

Unfortunately I don't have Trip Shakespeare's Are You Shakespearienced on CD. I used to have it on cassette waaaaay back in the day but I can't even find my copy of the cassette. I've got one of their other albums, but no Toolmaster... It sucks! If I could find it (for a reasonable price) I'd buy it, but it's just not to be found.

I can't believe no one has mentioned The Suburbs yet.

Also, there's a band called The Hold Steady that have songs mentioning Minneapolis, like "Hornets! Hornets!"
