I found the link to these commercials on John "The PC" Hodman's, blog.
Oddly surreal.

*edit*
I suppose if I'm posting a link, I should put the link in!
*facepalm*

Well, I've got Chiana home now, but I'm annoyed. They didn't put the screw in the bottom left corner of the LCD screen. When I showed them the chick said that there was nothing in the notes about it, but she suspected that the tech might have left it out on purpose. Of course, it was his day off and he didn't answer his cell.

She also said there was a note in there that I would have to be careful opening and closing it, but that had never been mentioned when I was paying for it!

Yes, there was previous damage on the back. But it's been there for over a year!

I'm also pretty annoyed at the being TWO WEEKS out of warranty thing, because I've apparently always had a problem with my DC-in Board. When you plug the powerbook into DC power, it is supposed to be a solid orange while the battery is charging, and a solid green when the battery is charged. Mine has always flickered and changed from day one. This indicated to me that the problem has been there all along and just reached total failure a few days ago. Of course, there is no record with Apple of this, because I DIDN'T KNOW THAT IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!!! So this is a problem that should have been fixed while still under warranty, but I didn't know it was a problem.

But the missing screw thing? That is something they will need to fix. And if they can't get it fixed to my satisfaction they will need to replace the display. Yes, there was previous damage, but I don't expect to pay $180 to get something back in worse shape!

And to make matters more annoying, Hwy 100 north is closed this weekend for road work and that's the most direct route between my house and Southdale. So I've already made a trip down there Friday to find out that they didn't have any more appointments, a trip Saturday where they looked at it and I left it for repair, and then the trip today to pick it up. They asked if I wanted to leave it there while they waited for the tech to call back or if I wanted to take it home. Frankly, the thought of not having my computer and having to deal with the detour to go back again to pick her up was more than I was willing to put up with today. I think I'll just stop on my way home from work tomorrow.

At least she works and I can finish my homework and stuff.

K, all you Mac people! How come none of you ever told me how cool OmniOutliner is?
MS Word bites when I'm trying to take notes. Its annoying autoformat options and such make it a royal pain to try to type notes.
I take notes in outline form, normally using just dashes instead of letters & numbers. This nifty little program that's been lurking here since I bought my computer. Very convenient and perfect for taking notes in class.

Hot stuff

It seemed like Chiana had been a lot hotter than she used to be. I just assumed that with more stuff running on her and my tendency to have many things open at once that I was just working her hard.
I never made the connection that it was since I bought the new battery that she had been getting hotter...
Apple Announces Recall of Batteries Used in Previous iBook and PowerBook Computers Due to Fire Hazard

The recalled lithium-ion batteries were used with the
following computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch
PowerBook G4. Consumers should remove the battery from the computer to
view the model and serial numbers labeled on the bottom of the unit.

Computer model name Battery model number Battery serial numbers

12-inch iBook G4 A1061 ZZ338 through ZZ427
3K429 through 3K611
6C510 through 6C626

12-inch PowerBook G4 A1079 ZZ411 through ZZ427
3K428 through 3K611

15-inch PowerBook G4 A1078 & A1148 3K425 through 3K601
6N530 through 6N551
6N601

No other Apple notebook computers are involved in this recall.

Sold Through: Apple's online store, Apple retail stores nationwide, and
Apple Authorized Resellers from October 2003 through August 2006 for
between $900 and $2300. The batteries also were sold separately for about
$130.

Chiana's new battery was A1078, 3K526...

So I'm now back to the old battery that doesn't hold a charge very well while I look into getting this one replaced. An ideal situation would be to be able to just take it into an Apple store and walk out with a new one.

Mac Geekery

My menu bar on my computer now shows the day and date in addition to the time!
Chiana & I survived our first foray into editing in terminal. :)

If you're a Mac Geek too and want to do this:

1. Fire up the Terminal (/Applications/Utilities)
2. At the prompt, type defaults write -g AppleICUTimeFormatStrings -dict-add 2 "MMMM d, y hh':'mm':'ss' 'a"
3. Press return and then type killall SystemUIServer
4. Press return again. Your menu bar will disappear - click anywhere on your desktop to reload it.

disclaimer: I got this info from MacAddict magazine. It appears to be working fine on Chiana with no problems. I am just posting what I did. I take no responsibility if your computer doesn't like it!

I've got a movie on my computer that is in .mpg format. What program can I use to watch this? Don't forget, I'm using a Mac.

Thanks!

Well, Chiana is back online. We'll need to figure out the secure wireless thing later. [livejournal.com profile] mhuot, [livejournal.com profile] hellbob will probably be calling you for help on how to get both Chiana and his laptop to play at the same time.

I'm snuffly and drippy and coughy. [livejournal.com profile] genevra, I blame you!!!

Christmas at my parents house tomorrow.

I'm busy scanning pictures of Rick's sister's family so she can have them since she lost all hers in the fire.

Christmas cards won't get out before Christmas but I think they'll be out before New Years.

We've gotten some cards from all our wonderful internets friends: [livejournal.com profile] kokopellinelli, [livejournal.com profile] caitirin & [livejournal.com profile] elaby, and [livejournal.com profile] mcbarnes1970.

I think all our shopping is done. Yes, really. All of it. And it's not even Christmas eve until tomorrow!

Guess what I'm doing on Wednesday! I'm gonna go see the Gear Daddies!! And City Pages is paying for it!!! Yay! I likes winning things!

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob got a laptop for work and it has wireless. He figured we should switch the wireless to secured. Great theory, but we can't get it to work with Chiana, so right now my laptop can't connect to the internets. *sigh*
I'm on his laptop right now and there's no two-finger scroll on the touchpad, I can't use cmd/[ to go back a page, when I hold down the mouse button there's a 50/50 chance that it's actually the right mouse button, I don't have tabbed browsing. It's just not right!! I like using my computer with all the buttons and keys set up the way I like. I want MY internets back!!!

The wireless internet access at the school is down. :(
Apparently something broke and there were security issues and blah blah blah. I can still get on the net during class, just not from Chiana.

Test post

I've been using iJournal for my entries, pretty much since I got Chiana, but tags have been around for a few months now, and iJournal still doesn't have tags support. I have just started putting tags on my entries, but to do this I have to go back into the entry to edit it to add the tag. It's annoying, and the main reason I haven't really started using tags.
Today I decided to use my brain and see which other LJ clients are out there for Mac and I found Xjournal. It seems to have all the features I'm used to, plus tags and more stuff that I haven't looked at yet. This is my first post with it... We'll see how it goes...

*edit* and as part of my testing, this edit's sole purpose was to use the "edit last entry" function of the client. :)

*son of edit* I can also use this to edit old entries! Like, all of them. All the way back to 2002! This will be useful for my retroactive tagging. Three years of tags to add... Oy with the poodles already!

She has wireless internets and my school has wireless internets so I can use her in class instead of the school computers. I only need to log into one of those to transfer my finished assignment into the teacher's folder. So when I have finished what we are doing and the slow people are still working on it I have all my internet bookmarks and my iChat (AIM id is hellziggy, duh) and my emails and everything is all set the way I want it to be!
