I got a call Friday evening from the lovely LJ-less Nissa, asking if I was interested in going to a play at the Guthrie with her, as the also lovely & LJ-less Darek was sick.

We went to the play 1776 which I knew nothing about. It turned out to be really good. It was a comedy and musical about the writing and signing of the Declaration of Independence.

One of the gorgeous features of the new Guthrie building is the Endless Bridge. It has a beautiful view of the river. It was also pretty crowded Friday because you could also see some of the 35W bridge wreckage.

Why do they call it the endless bridge? I'm so jealous you got to go to the new Guthrie. I need to schedule something next time I get home.

The bridge doesn't seem real. Even though I've been looking at it for what, three days now.

Nice pictures. It's weird to think I've got postcards that are 100 years old with pictures of the Stone Arch Bridge, but the 35W bridge was two years older than me.

I get what the earlier commenter meant about it not seeming real.

Even the video footage - it just falls down. One part doesn't go down first and pull the other side, the whole thing just goes *poof*.

I don't know why it's called that. Maybe because it goes out like a bridge but doesn't end anywhere...
This was my 2nd time at the new Guthrie. I also saw The Glass Menagerie there. It's a gorgeous building!

It looks beautiful from the pics online. I'd love to see it for real. They even offer backstage tours...

That was what I saw, too- just gone. Wierd. It's a *bridge* for pity's sake, they don't just fall. Outside of the children's song anyway.

Thank you! I love my gorgeous city. As much as I love getting to see new places I really can't imagine living anywhere but Minneapolis!

Oh, and that theater? On the Queen Mary last year I got the most adorable little whimper out of James by telling him about the new building. He wants to do the Guthrie someday in the future when he's able to make that kind of out-of-state commitment.
