The kind of parents who would allow (or at least not stop) their child to climb a barrier at the zoo and 'pet the pretty animals' are also the kind of parents who will express outrage that their child got bitten, and demand the offending animals get euthanized immediately. Those people have Entitlement Psychosis. Their precious children are entitled to do whatever they want, and anyone who hinders or harms them because of it should pay the consequences. Example, my kids should be allowed to play in the street, how dare you honk your horns at them? And heaven help you if you hit them with your car. Same principle applies here. They'd say that the girl should have been allowed to pet the meerkats, and the bad meerkat shouldn't have bitten her, so it must be punished.
