We had the Sinclair that came out before the TRS-80. It was a ZX-something... It was REALLY expensive: $150. But, you could also get one for $99 if you were willing to do some of the soldering & put it together yourself.
If your mom worked at Norwest, my daddy was the one who fixed those IBM punchcard machines when they broke! Did you grow up using used punchcards for scrap paper too?
