Wow. Glad to know somebody's paying attention. She's right- the whole furor over gay rights and gay marriage is a distraction. I'm sad to say it's probably not yet time to legalize same-sex marriages, but we'll get there. Someday. I hope.
But this whole hubbub, the panic, is really distracting from the things that are wrong that really do need fixing.
I don't understand the sheer panic that the Right seems to have concerning gay folks. I just don't get why it is such a huge thing. I've never seen rhetoric from the Left saying that everybody should date someone of their own gender, though I see a lot from the Right saying talking about what sounds like compulsory heterosexuality. Ok, so you're straight. Fine. Why are you so concerned about what *I* am doing? Live your own damn life and stay out of mine.
I understand the Right thinks gay people are evil or wrong or whatever it is they think- there are many ways to say we are wrong and need to change. They have a right to their opinion, but they do not have a right to legislate it. That Texas legislator was right to condemn taking children from gay families and sending them back to orphanages. A family, any non-abusive family, is better than an *orphanage*. At least in the family, they know somebody loves them. What do they have in the orphanage? How about a whole lot of nothing?
Besides, gay people serve in the military and raise children all the time. They just don't say anything about it. Get a damn life and start worrying about the things that are worth it.
