Help me LJ hive mind, you're my only hope!
I know at least a few of you mentioned that you knew someone that we should check out for our new roof & siding.
I also know I told you that there was no way I would remember.
So here's the post. If you have someone to recommend for our home repairs, please leave their info in the comments.
Also, if you would, could you please say whether they've actually done work on your house or not. We won't be making any decisions on who we hire until we've gotten some estimates.
Also, depending on what kind of estimates we get we might have one company do the siding and a different one do the roof/gutters.
Thank you!!!

We chose a different one, but since we signed the contract in April and have not gotten our roof done yet, I can hardly recommend them. We did not go with the above because they were slightly higher priced. I think if the roof is not done soon we will just pay the extra.

Mom & Dad recommended Tacheny Roofing. 651-484-1466 They got a C on Angie's List. With them, people either loved them or hated them.
We actually ended up going with Charlie Bogue, Jason's uncle. His phone number is 507-213-1206. He was $1500 cheaper than the other 2, and he's family. He's the one who built Sandi's deck. (and you can check out the remodeled bathroom/bedroom at the pool party) If you want to see a roof he's done, we can give you the address of a family friend if you wanna drive by it.
Also, if you want me to check Angie's List on any other contractors, let me know.

They were recommended by the insurance company and Schmidt Roofing must satisfy the insurance company's expectations and the expectations of the mortgage lender in order to stay on the "recommended" list. The guy that was out was very thorough.
They have not yet worked on the house but are expected to start within the next two weeks.
All of my advice, which you probably don't need:
*Never hire a "friend" for any reason - for that matter, never hire anyone that you might be uncomfortable taking to court for negligence or incompetence.
*A written contract will specify the scope of work and the payment schedule. Payments should never be completed until work is completed. The contractor should also be able to put in writing the materials and brands of products used, and the timeline for completion. Never sign a blank contract or one with blank spaces.
*Check to see that the contractor's license number is not expired or fake at theContractor's license reference site
*Check on complaints that have been filed with the Better Business Bureau here
*Pay by check. Checks should be written to the contracting company, never an individual.

When I last lived in a house we used Sela for the roofing and that turned out fine as far as I know. They were very fast and there was no trouble for the year I lived there. But with any roofer, watch for roofing nails in the yard and driveway. I ended up with one in my tire.
That's all I've got.
Good luck with your project!
