Science, people. You should study it!

So I'm watching the episode of Sarah Connor Chronicles from two weeks ago. John's uncle needs a blood transfusion. His blood type is AB-. Sarah is O-, universal donor. John says "Test my blood" 'cuz he figures he's got a good chance of being a match since it is his dad's brother. And it turns out that John has AB- blood too, just like his uncle.
O-kay...
If we use actual science, then there is no way Sarah can be his mother because she has two O blood genes and to be AB John would have to have gotten either an A or a B from her.
This isn't rocket science people! If your story has a plot point contingent on blood type you should probably do 5 minutes of research!

You're awesome! I wonder how many people actually pay attention.

LOL! See the comment below yours. Dr. [livejournal.com profile] kniblet noticed! :)

Hahaha! I ranted at the show for a full five minutes about how there's a reason O neg is called the universal donor and that's because it can be given to anyone. And how AB neg is the almost universal recipient and for men they'd probably ignore the pos/neg mismatch in an emergency (once, anyway).

I was so busy shouting about the stupidity of it all that I didn't even notice how stupid it really was. *grin*

Yeah, at first I was wondering why they didn't just go with the universal donor. Then I started thinking about how it is impossible for John to have AB if his mom is O. Well, the show is Science Fiction after all!

Oh noes! They're actually all Terminators and they're living in the Matrix!

That's why it works -- it's all artificial blood, anyway.

Huh. All I noticed was that Sarah and I have the same blood type.

It's like casting the brown-eyed child with blue-eyed parents. That one bugs me.

LOL!! You got it! I'm glad I'm not the only one that goes nuts over something like that.
