I was walking home late in the evening last year and I heard a car backfiring. Then a rather scared group of young men ran past me very fast and it occurred to me that I haven't heard a car backfire outside of a movie. I quickened my pace walking home.
Sometimes in the summer there are firecrackers... I wasn't really sure enough to call the police. There were no sirens after so it was probably something else.
I'm alright. It's frightfully dull. I heard the 2 bangs and nothing since. Not even any sirens, so it was probably something else. One cat is asleep on the back of the couch beside me and the other is curled up on my lap. They didn't care.
I remember hearing gunshots once when we lived out in Chaska - which I also thought was not a gunshot area. We called anyway, though, and were told they were already on it, so apparently we were not the only ones. The police came investigating our woods several minutes later! I think it was kids playing with - god knows what.
I have come to the conclusion that any neighborhood can be a gunshot area at times. Sad but true. Some more than others - Here and in your neighborhood, we wouldn't actively "duck", but if you are living in parts of Minneapolis, I would certainly duck!
I used to live in Brooklyn Park/Brooklyn Center...so we did hear gunshots from time to time. We also heard what we thought were gun shots, but it was just tires blowing when cars were lit on fire.
There probably wouldn't be any sirens even if it was gunfire. We've called in shots heard here, and they send a car to drive through the neighborhood. Not a lights-and-sirens response. Usually it comes as "unable to locate" in the end anyway.

Sirens yet?

If you're pretty sure it's gunshots, it might be worth a call into the police department just so they can drive by and take a looksee.

I have. Not often, but I have. Sound is surprisingly similar to a gunshot (which I've also heard in a neighborhood close to where we lived).

P.S. Glad that it was nothing though. We like you hellpeople all in one piece and not riddled with holes and such.

Though I don't think it's possible to have two backfires in rapid succession.

*fabulous* use of the word 'just' in that sentence. :-)

Hopefully it was nothing.
