[livejournal.com profile] hellziggy's not-so-normal life

So there was this new character introduced on Bones last week. He's played by John Francis Daley from Freaks & Geeks:
JohnFrancisDaleyPhotos

He seemed familiar besides the whole "he's on tv thing" and I finally placed it. He was reminding me of the first boy I ever officially "went steady" with back when I was in 10th grade, R.
This is what R. looked like when I dated him (crappy quality because I took a picture of a picture instead of dragging out the scanner):
RHS

Yeah, some resemblance. Skinny, dark messy hair, kinda geeky.

But what R. looks like today? I know there are some of you out there who I've mentioned this to. For many years it was an abstract thing that I had briefly heard about in the news but didn't really have any confirmation on.
Thanks to the wonders of the interwebs though, I did a Google search a while back for his full name and I got one hit. Yes, only one. Because someone who has been in prison since 1990 really doesn't have a web presence other than the Minnesota Department of Corrections offender locator page.
Here he is boys & girls, my first official boyfriend:

I'm not sure how old the picture is. He went to prison when he was 21 and he is 38 now.
It's a very surreal thing for me to think about...

Looks like a nice guy, Murder One aside...

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I shoulda known he'd be trouble... He broke up with me via a note in my locker.

Surreal indeed

[identity profile] freyjakj.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Wierd! Life sentence. Did you know about this before you found his google presence? Have you found out what he is in for exactly?

Re: Surreal indeed

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I was in Fargo at the time but [livejournal.com profile] genevra had heard it mentioned briefly on the news. He has a fairly unique middle name and they always use the whole name when talking about people arrested for murder, so we knew it had to be him. We don't know any specifics though. He killed his father (or maybe step-father.) I don't know any of the details of weapon or anything like that.
So I've known that he was probably in prison since back when it happened, but a few months ago I randomly decided to google him and found his DOC page.

It was really freaky. Mom & I were watching the news. They said, "R is wanted for the murder of his stepfather. Authorities are looking for him.", or somesuch. We looked at each other and said, no way, there can't be two of them, and called [livejournal.com profile] hellziggy to tell her about it. I also got to remind her that he tried to date me first, but I turned him down. (His secret admirer act creeped me out!)

[identity profile] kajicarter.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Nice eyes! But...wow. I occasionally Google my ex-husband, but mostly all I get to see is a receding hairline.

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, this was back in 10th grade so it's not too traumatic for me. :)
And look! He has a full head of hair! LOL

[identity profile] kajicarter.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
Ouch. And you can Google the statute if the abbreviated description doesn't give it to you.

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
On the actual page the links work. His details:

MOC Code: H1041
General Description: Homicide
Category : Murder 1
Weapon Use : Other Dangerous Weapon
Victim : Adult - Family

[identity profile] mcbarnes1970.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
How odd that you and I both have ex's in the prison system. Ever written him a letter?

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope! My last contact with him was the note he put in my locker telling me that he was breaking up with me! He dropped out of school shortly thereafter and moved up north to the family he had up there. And as you can see that didn't work out so well. His victim was an adult family member.

[identity profile] mcbarnes1970.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well phooey on him for breaking your heart! ;) Hellbob is better anyway.

[identity profile] caitirin.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yikes!! That's a bit scary!

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
He seemed like a nice guy in 10th grade...

[identity profile] kniblet.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That's really sad. He looked like such a sweet kid.

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I certainly thought he was sweet at the time...

He always had family issues though, and the link to the crime description says this:
MOC Code: H1041
General Description: Homicide
Category : Murder 1
Weapon Use : Other Dangerous Weapon
Victim : Adult - Family

I've always been curious to know more details of the murder, but not curious enough to do more than a google search or two.

[identity profile] kniblet.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to suggest newspaper archives, but from 1990 it would probably all be microfilm. :/

[identity profile] mle292.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.

Two lives gone probably because an argument got all fucked up.

[identity profile] lexiphanic.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Spooky that there's a sign saying "Danger" right under him in the old pic.

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I noticed that too. LOL!

[identity profile] fairoriana.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. That's a sad story.

Most of my exes are strangely absent from teh intarweb. There are no hits on their names.

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
There were no hits on his name a few years ago either. I'm pretty sure that having been locked up in 1990 he's never even been on the internet!

[identity profile] gileswench.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I've ocassionally considered doing a quick Google on my old boyfriends, but now I'm kind of nervous to do it.

Last I heard, though, they were okay and not incarcerated. Maybe I'll just leave it at that.

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The incarceration wasn't a surprise here since I'd heard about the murder back when it happened. I was kind of suprised to see that MN DOC had put all their inmates online though.

[identity profile] jklumpp.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! That's even more dramatic than my ex showing up on Jerry Springer "Too Hot For TV" Pay Per View.

[identity profile] lexinatrix.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
What? LOL

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh. I smell a story there! :)
ext_107945: (ohnoes!)

[identity profile] lexinatrix.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Egads, Murder-1!

He looks like a regular kid, but then there's something totally different (and sad) in his eyes in his mugshot.

Wild.

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm guessing that pic is from right around when he went in rather than when they started putting the stuff online because he doesn't look hardened enough for 17 years in prison.

[identity profile] scubagrrl.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Should I remember what's-his-name? I don't. The only one I remember is the tall guy that wore a bandanna and maybe had a white streak in his hair?

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. The one you remember is Eric. This was before him, and possibly before I knew you. Also, he left Blaine HS shortly after he broke up with me so if it was before I knew you he wouldn't have been around at all while we were friends.

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Just did a comment/delete for you w/this guy's name. There's really no reason not to put it out there, but it just doesn't seem right...

[identity profile] scubagrrl.livejournal.com 2007-10-31 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. That name sounds somewhat familiar, but of course not someone I knew well.

(Anonymous) 2007-11-01 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get to have any fun with Google. No one I know has an internet presence; I'm surrounded by people who barely know how to turn their computers on.

[identity profile] kajicarter.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
Responding here rather than to your comment on my LJ. My sister pointed out that anyone Googling the full name of the film might find my LJ and I'm going to try to be gracious. Minnesota Nice? :D Anyway...

Yep, receding hairline and all. WCCO even did an interview, presumably as a seasonal tie-in. He's sporting a few new unfortunate genes as well, but this is the first I've seen of him in ages. I think it's his mom's side....

[identity profile] hellziggy.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Yes, that would be the flip side of the wonderful world of Google. :)
I know there is an option on the edit user info page to not allow search engine bots. It appears to work as I've seen my comments elsewhere in google searches, but never anything from my page.
Oh, do you want my comment deleted to? if you do, feel free. :)
