Well the whole "Through rain & sleet & snow..." etc. doesn't really hold true. Their mail can only come in and out when the flights do. I believe "winter" is from March to August and there are no flights during that time. Then there are a couple in August bringing new people, and taking out some of the old. Then they construct the ice runway during September and flights resume again in October. So, even though Andre actually wrote & mailed the postcard in Aug or Sept, it didn't actually leave Antarctica until early October, on the same plane he took to Christchurch, NZ!
