We were at como once and asked N what she thought the Girafs ate, she commented that they at blueberries, we puzzled over that one for a minute. OH yeah, their tongues are dark and so are blueberries. (GRIN)
So, how about that smell hmm? Took me about 3 days to get it off of my hands (they have a VERY strong musk). Not sure if 5 is old enough to really be putting it out there or not.
Did you climb steps or is the giraffe standing in a trench?
Giraffes do some of their best acting in trenches, you know. I saw a giraffe play Miss St John the Baptist in a trench, and Miss Napoleon Bonaparte in a trench, and Miss Alexander Fleming in a furrow, Miss Galileo in a groove and Mrs Jesus Christ in a geological syncline.
OMG, I love giraffes!! They have the most beautiful eyes in the world. *is green with envy*
Funny thing? My son seems to have inherited that love because in every picture book he first looks up lions (with an accompanied roar) and then the giraffe. He's not very clear spoken so it took me a while first to realise what he was trying to say. ("Íaffi! Íaffi!"=gíraffi)
They actually amputate the giraffes legs so they are shorter and so they can't go anywhere. :) Their viewing platform for the African animals is on a hill so it's sort of raised and they're sort of in a trench.
Your zoos there don't have giraffes either, do they? We normally don't here because the winter is too cold, but they did the Africa exhibit just for the summer.
Nope, no foreign animals at all. Except for like some rabbits or something. We actually don't have a proper zoo, more of a barnyard petting zoo. You know, horses and cows and sheep and poultry, then seals and fish and also some reindeer and foxes and such. The most exotic animal there is probably a stork that accidentally flew over and messed up its wing so it stayed there over the winter.
It's all because of the quarantine laws. Like you can't bring in any horses because the Icelandic horse is too sensitive to foreign diseases and one bug might wipe the whole country clean of them. It's not a big country, you know.
They have brought in a reptile/creepy-crawlies show a few times. Not sure why that was ok.
There is *a* zoo, and my friend likes it there. I've never been but I've been looking for an excuse to go. San Diego has one , too. And Santa Barbara. I think LA and SD are better than SB but SB is a fun place even if the zoo sucks.
