Zoo Picture Spam!

I spent several hours out at the Minnesota Zoo today with [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm and [livejournal.com profile] kafilipi. This was the first time I was actually able to meet [livejournal.com profile] kafilipi after several near misses.

Being as much of a zoo & camera geek as me, we spent over an hour on the Northern Trail, most of it with the tigers & the wolves. Lana & Nika were right up by the glass, but it was tough to get good shots because the glass was kind of cloudy. I did get a few good ones though. Here's Nika:

and Nika chasing Lana:

I did manage to get a ton of good wolf pictures though!

It's a moose!

Baby camel & mommy

The pronghorns were low enough on the hill to get a good shot.

The Japanese Snow Monkeys.

White-cheeked Gibbon.

If that's not enough zoo pictures for you, my zoo gallery online is up to over 120 pictures. Click here

Thank you! I think the growly wolf is my favorite (even though he was really yawning...don't tell anyone...)

Those turned out awesome!

WOW that's a close tiger! O.O

No cropping & zooming there, either! Nika really was that close, albeit through some pretty thick glass!
The best part is that even when the weather is below freezing I can just plunk right down on the ground to watch them because the rock is heated! :)

Very excellent. Man, it makes me really want to go to the zoo now.

The MN Zoo rocks, as does your photography. Those were awesome to see...especially moose and wolves.

Ok...that's it! I must go there sometime! What wonderful pictures! Like the animals posed just for you!

I love, LOVE, that last wolf photo. Awesome photos as always Sharon. (and your Christmas card is on the way)

Great pictures! Snow is quite pretty and makes such a good backdrop for the animals. I remember the snow monkeys... we used to watch them. The wolves are beautiful. I forgot how much I like wolves. :)

The weather was perfect for the wolves & tigers to be active-about 25 degrees! :) We were on the Northern trail for over an hour and saw less than a dozen people. You'll have to check out the zoo if you're back at all this summer. They are going to have an African Savannah exhibit. Giraffes!

I don't think they were posing as much as being shocked that human beings would be out in such weather! It was a bit chilly!

Yes, he is a handsome devil, isn't he? *grin* When he was born, he & his littermates increased the total world population of Mexican Grey Wolves by almost 3%! That's not a lotta wolves.

The snow monkeys bore me in the summer, but I like them in the winter...
I love the wolves & tigers & lemurs. Lemurs are a bitch to photograph though because they are inside the tropics trail.

Ooo ~ I went to the Omaha Zoo once, and I still remember the picture in my head of how gracefully I saw them running. It was a beautiful sight.

*crossing fingers* Maybe we'll get back this summer! That would be awesome.
