Encounters at the End of the World

Werner Herzog's film Encounters At the End of the World is going to be playing at the Lagoon on July 11th! The site only lists one day, but I'm guessing that is the day it starts its run there.
I wanna go see it!
It'll be so cool if [livejournal.com profile] mcpenguin is in it. And I'll get to see some of the places that [livejournal.com profile] mcpenguin took Moose when he was down there. No Moose on film though. He wasn't down in McMurdo at the same time as Herzog.

If you aren't in Minneapolis and want to know when you can see this documentary, THINKFilm's got the schedule HERE.

Unfortunately, [livejournal.com profile] tx_cronopio, there are NO Texas showings listed. :(

Strange that this should be about Antartica when I am currently reading Madeleine L'Engle's Troubling a Star where most of the plot happens on a journey to and in Antartica.

I've become addicted to experiencing Antarctica vicariously through others. About 2 years ago or so I ended up on [livejournal.com profile] mcpenguin's LiveJournal as he was just getting to the end of his first winterover in Antarctica. I friended him and have been following him ever since. (and 3 of my other LJ friends have started following him too) I've got a little stuffed Moose that I take on vacations, and send with friends when they are going somewhere cool. Last fall I sent him down to visit [livejournal.com profile] mcpenguin and so Moose got to spend about 4 months down there on the bottom of the world! I also just recently a few months ago friended [livejournal.com profile] 30toseoul who is wintering at the actual South Pole. I really can't imagine how people did it before the internet!

That's so amazing! I think I would be scared to go down there. Something about feeling like I could fall off the earth at any point. *laughs* That's super silly to think, but hey....irrational fears. XD
