Hey everyone! Isn't it just a beautiful Monday morning?

Ok. That's enough of faking that cheerful crap! My weekend was fair to mediocre. Friday was Serenity with [livejournal.com profile] hellbob, [livejournal.com profile] passaddhi, Passaddhi Roomate, [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm and a buncha people we ran into there like 7thstranger, mle292, squeaky, michaellee, frozendragon... (yes, I got tired of coding the funky lj name links! I'm at work, no LJ client, deal with it!)
The movie was Shiny & every bit as good as I remembered. Again, I do have a Serenity filter for any and all post/comments with spoilers. Anyone spoiling the movie in an unlocked thread on my LJ will be flogged. Unless they enjoy being flogged. Then the punishment will be to not be flogged. Anyway, if you've seen it and not seen a flocked spoiler post comment to be added to the filter. After the movie hellbob took his tired old but home and I joined mle, 7th, and crew at TGIFridays for post movie munchies & chatter wherein we discussed the furry's dream job, porn, and other wonderful things.
Saturday I felt like crap. Nothin' specific. No headache, nausea, etc. Just felt off. Slept most of the day. Apparently while I was sleeping hellbob talked to me on three separate occasions and I have absolutely NO recollection of it. We're talking beer/Yukon Jack/Tequila/other stuff all in one night levels of no recollection. (Without the drinking, or hangover)
Sunday I was feeling a bit better but still no energy. I did fold & put away laundry. Hellbob will tell you that this is an amazing feat in and of itself.
And now it's Monday. And I'm at work. And I don't want to be.
But I think I am going to join the [livejournal.com profile] photo_speakeasy crew for some shooting tonight maybe. And tomorrow is school, and Wednesday I'm going to a free preview of W & G Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Thursday I'm going to a free preview of Waiting... and then it is Friday.
I have to get my butt going on my next photoshop assignment. The assignment is "movement." I've got some ideas I'm working on... I also have to finish my Toronto recaps. All I have left is the last day in Toronto & the drive home, so just the one post. Then I will likely go backdate the entries so they are grouped together.
Now, lunch is over, back to work!

We had a fair amount of time still before the concert so we decided to get another bite to eat. [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear knew where there was a Harvey’s, which is one of their local fast food places. She told us where it was so that [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm & I could stop at the hotel to drop of our signed pics & Chiana so that we wouldn’t have to worry about any of them being damaged. That was just a quick stop and we were off to the restaurant to find [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear, [livejournal.com profile] hazeldean, and Maggie.

But, on the way to the hotel we had an odd sighting. As we were standing on the corner waiting to cross a guy walked up and was looking at the traffic to cross. Me & [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm looked at each other at pretty much the same time and said “That’s Crispin Glover!”

The guy then saw that there wasn’t any traffic coming and scurried across the street even though the light was still red. It’s not often that the description “scurried” can be used so completely accurately! He is one strange guy, from all I’ve read.

Unfortunately it was drizzling a little bit outside so for pretty much the first time all day, my camera was in my backpack instead of around my neck. By the time I got it out to take a picture of him he was partly across the street and I didn’t have time to set the exposure so it ended up being about a 4 second exposure. The picture came out very odd and surreal, and yet an utterly perfect depiction of this strange man (not that you can tell there is a person in it!)

After dropping the stuff off at the hotel we met up with the girls at Harvey’s and had a light snack before the concert.

When we got back to the Convention Center we figured we would just be hanging out in the halls somewhere until we could get into line for the concert, but the room was open with people in it. A woman named Kimber was leading a discussion of various things like fan fiction. I may have sort of outed myself to a room full of strangers about what kind of fanfic I like to read…hee hee!
Because the VIPs had priority seating, shortly before the concert was gonna start all us gold passes had to stand up & move back so any VIPs who had come in could get their seats & then we got to sit back down. We were just a row or two further back than we had been for the Q & A, and again I chose to be on the center aisle for going up to take photos. I only took about 125-150 or so…

The concert was so good! James was wearing his black “pimp shirt” and he seemed really happy and relaxed. I suck at remembering set lists, so I grabbed this from the More Than Spike forum:

1. Every Man
2. This Town
3. Angel
4. Over Now
5. Birth of the Blues
6. Smile
7. Civilized Man
8. Goodbye
9. Bad
10. Dangerous
11. For What I Need
12. Louise
13. Finer than Gold

Of course, the concert was way too short! But it was also absolutely fabulous.

After James was done and he was heading out of the room, Steve called him back to stage and told him about the big birthday cake he had planned to have there for him. As he said that James, who was off mike, said something to Steve. Steve told us that what he had just said was “You fucker.” Steve then told James that since there was no cake, he would get to stand there while we all sang to him.

And he stood there looking very embarrassed and turning red as a room full of people all sang Happy Birthday.

Then he thanked us all again & left.

When we filed out after the concert we said our goodbyes to [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear since we had no James events the next day. I also exchanged addresses with her since I had promised to send her all the pictures I took because she only had a film camera, and because she had given me a CD with some Ghost of the Robot songs I didn’t have yet!

Then [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm and I headed back to the hotel and made our plans for the next day.

Well, the official James Marsters site: http://www.jamesmarsters.com/home.html has been updated with links to two fans sites of photos. It was supposed to be three, but Steve apparently couldn't get the link to mine to work. I had emailed him back when he first said it didn't work and pointed out that it did make a difference if letters were capitalised. Then, a couple hours later I got an email from him saying that he just couldn't get it to work.
So now I'm kicking myself because I don't know if it didn't work the second time because I was actually logged into the gallery to work on the photos of Julie's house that I'd just uploaded.
Who knows. Maybe he'll figure it out and add mine, but I don't think so.
I should know better than to get my hopes up like that.

Well, here's the link, in a completely non-official jamesmarsters.com way.

When we got back to the Convention Center we went up to the autograph area again, and I got a Hercules pic signed by Kevin Sorbo, and the obligatory Photo With Moose.
Then we moved on over to Adam Baldwin’s booth so that [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm could get his autograph on one of the Serenity mini posters for her brother. I actually remember our conversations with Adam more this time than the one the previous night.

I asked him which cities he’d gone to for the previews. I remember he said Seattle, and of course Edinborough for the premier, but I don’t remember what other one he’d said.
Then [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear was asking him about how the current version of the film was different than the one we’d seen. Adam said that of course the special effects and music were all finished, but he also said that Joss had trimmed out some unnecessary dialog, to which I joked, “Joss has unnecessary dialog?” and he laughed. He said the final cut is just a few minutes over two hours and it is just fantastic.

While we had been talking to him and I was looking at him I noticed a pretty deep scar on his cheek. Again, the part of my brain that is usually kinda shy had apparently been left behind in the US because as we were standing there and the conversation started to lull I said, “If you don’t mind my asking, how did you get that scar on your cheek? It really adds to the Jayne persona” He smiled and said that when he was three he fell off his tricycle into a wheelbarrow. Then he laughed and said, “No, wait, I was in a knife fight. Ooh, I got it in prison” It was very cute and sweet and funny. We all got our pictures taken with him again and continued on our merry way.

We headed to the Canadian Browncoat table and I was able to snag some of the free goodies to bring home for Niki who refused to skip her sister’s wedding to go to Canada with us.
The crowds trying to navigate the booths areas were just hellacious. When you are expecting that many thousands of people you really should make wider aisles. So we decided not to do any shopping/browsing and headed down to just hang out in the area where we were lining up for autographs.

We found [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear’s two new Browncoat friends and sat with them. Being the intelligent fans that we are, we had already divided ourselves into the two lines; gold & VIP. Unfortunately the hallway that we were expecting that we were going to be going into for the autographs (the same place the pictures had been) was overrun by Frodo fans. Elijah Woods was at the con and doing a signing that you needed a special ticket for. When James’ people came down to set up for the autographs and for passing out the photos, they had nowhere to go.

There were some pretty big conference/event type rooms just off the hallway where we were, so they arranged for one of those to be opened up and we filed into it in our nice orderly VIP first, Gold second line. There was a ton of room and so the line just kind of snaked around the outer edge of the room and when it stopped we all just plunked our stuff and ourselves down and basically just hung out.

As the photos came in batches they called out the numbers and we went to get them. Everyone was surprised at how much of a full body shot they were. Then my number was called and I went up and got my envelope. I was so nervous to open it because I was afraid I would hate it.

My first reaction was that mine was zoomed in, I didn’t get the crotch shot that everyone else did! And, I didn’t hate the way I looked. But James’ face? Wow! In my pic he was looking at the camera with that smoldering SEX! look that he does so well! And he was holding Moose with his left hand, with Moose just kind of resting on his palm that he was holding up flat. His right arm was draped up and over my shoulder and our heads were touching. The main thing I really don’t like about the picture is that we just don’t match. I have a really big smile and he has the intense gaze with no smile.

But as we were all comparing photos and noticing all the little details we saw that mine was the only one zoomed in so close. We eventually used our brains and figured out that the photographer zoomed in so that Moose would show up more, since he really isn’t a very big moose.

Shortly after the photos were handed out, James came in to start the autographs. It was really cool. He was at a table in one corner of the room, and none of us in line were really making a big deal about it because we knew we were all gonna be up there with our time with him at some point.

When I wandered out of the room for a bathroom break, I saw that Steve had the table set up outside the room where they were selling the pictures, DVDs, & Cds. On my way back in I stopped to talk to him.

Have I mentioned yet how much we love Steve Himber? He’s such a classy guy. He’s nice & funny & helpful & you can just tell that you don’t want to fuck with him, because you will not win!

Anyway, I introduced my self and mentioned the email I had sent him before the convention, basically asking if there was any kind of photographer’s/press badge or anything I could get to get up close at the concert to photograph it. He’d emailed me back right away saying he was sorry, but they really couldn’t make exceptions for anybody, but he hoped I’d be able to get some good shots anyway. That had been the answer I expected to get. I had figured that if I didn’t ask, I would have zero chance. If I asked and I only had a 2% chance he’d say yes, it was still 2% more than not asking.

So, I had introduced myself to Steve and refreshed his memory about the email I sent and before I could say anything else he apologized that he hadn’t been able to help me. I said that was ok, and that I totally understood, but that you never know until you ask. Then I also thanked him for responding to me right away when I did email him and told him how much I appreciated that.

We talked a little bit and he asked if I had gotten good pictures at the Q&A, which I said I did. I told him I was really looking forward to the concert too. Then I asked him if he had the “I want my Spike movie” postcards and buttons that they’d had for the taking on the table earlier at the photo shoots.

He said “Hold on a minute, I’ll go get them” and he was back in a second with the buttons. He passed most of them out to people who were standing in line right there and when he had one left he brought it over to me. I thanked him again and headed on it to so sit back down with the girls.

I noticed as I glanced at James (well, duh? Wouldn’t you if you were walking right past?) that on the end of the table where he was signing they had more buttons so I stopped to grab one for [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm. I asked the volunteer at the end of the table if they still had the postcards too and she realized she had forgotten to put those out. She took a huge pile out of a box and put them on the table and said something about how she had to go give some to Steve too. She was looking kind of harried, probably from herding us all around as they figured out where they would be doing the signing, so I volunteered to run them out.

Then it was back to sit in line for a while more until all the VIPs had their autographs. While we were all sitting there Steve came around with a bowl of Tootsie Rolls and he was showing people a picture from the photo session. I’m guessing that James and he were goofing around either before or after the photos because it was a picture of the two of them. I didn’t get a real good look at it. After the question that had been asked earlier the two of them goofing around in a pic was even funnier.

Once the VIPs were done with their autographs we got up and got ready and made our final decisions on what to have signed. I was pretty much set on the photo I had bought because it was just such a nice looking photo. Hindsight and all, I actually had enough time that I could have taken one of the photos I took at the Q&A to a drugstore to have a print made and have him sign that… Ah well. When he was signing for [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear he said that the guitar he was holding actually belonged to David Boreanaz.

While we had been in line and when I was at the table getting postcards I was marveling at how calm I was. There was none of the frozen in place syndrome I’d had at the first sighting. Even at the Q & A I wasn’t as nervous as I usually am. I think I can attribute a lot of that to how James is so good at putting you at ease. At the photos, when I was asking my questions, and then at the autograph, when it was my turn his focus was on me. It never seemed like he just wanted to get through with it to move on to the next person so that it could be over. He genuinely seemed to want to connect with each person.

Now I know that people will think that is wishful thinking on my part or that he’s just playing a part, but I have met musicians and actors who really do give the impression that they are doing the autographs/photos because they have to, not because they want to. The only celebrity I’ve met whose openness and friendliness can compare is Virginia Hey.

I actually attribute a lot of my ease and comfort with him to the Friday hallway encounter. I was able to get my first fangirl “OMG! He’s. Right. There!” out of the way when it didn’t “count” and also when he smiled and thanked me he was just so darn genuine.

Anyhow, when it was my turn I put down the photo I wanted signed and he reached out and shook my hand. He asked how I was doing. I thanked him for what had been a wonderful weekend so far. I also said “If you come to Minneapolis, to the Guthrie, I’ll be there.” And he said that he really hoped he would be some day. There was an open Red Bull can on the table and after he signed I pointed to it and said, “Make sure you have plenty more of those so you can rock all night!” He laughed and said he would and then he reached out and took my hand again.

And that was the last one-on-one encounter I had with him.

[livejournal.com profile] blond_bear had checked with the people right behind her in line and they had no problem with us jumping in line with her since they knew ahead of time. We were only in line about 1/2 hour, but we kept getting shushed for talking in normal to low voices because apparently our voices were carrying into the room where someone else's Q & A was going on. About half way through the wait they divided the Gold passes and the Stalker passes into two lines again, which left us very close to the front of our line.

When we got in we ended up splitting up from [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear because I opted to sit a little farther back so I could be right on the center aisle for taking photos. Shortly after we were all settled in James & Steve came in.

There was a mike up on stage for James, and one down to the right of the stage (stage left?) for us to ask questions from. Steve explained that we would just line up there to ask questions & James said “anything goes.”

No one headed up right away, and just as I was thinking “What the hell, I'll go first,” another girl also stood up & headed on up. BB took pretty good notes during the whole Q & A, which I plan on stealing as soon as she posts them. I couldn't even tell you what the first girl asked because I was taking pictures and trying not to be too nervous that not only would I be talking to James in a minute, but I would also be speaking in front of a room full of people! Y'all know how I love that!

Since I knew I would kick myself later if I was in the same room with a chance to ask a question and I didn't, I had been contemplating what to ask for about a month or so! Well, I was up there and got the mike, and was relatively calm and coherent! My question/answer with James went something like this, quoted/paraphrased to the best of my memory:
Me – “Hi James”
JM – “Hi.”
Me – “I drove all the way here from Minneapolis, and we've got a great theater there called the Guthrie”
JM – “Yeah, the Guthrie's great”
Me – “A couple of Joss's actors got their starts there. Ron Glass from Firefly & Serenity, and before that some little show called Barney Miller was there in the late 60's. Also, and I know I'm going to mangle his last name, Vincent Kartheiser (insert manglization of last name here)” [confused look on James' face] “Connor on Angel, he's from Minneapolis and was at the Guthrie for a while…”
JM – “Really? I didn't know that. I'm jealous!”
Me – “Also, a couple years ago we had Mercedes Ruehl and Patrick Stewart there doing an amazing version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe. So my question for you is, when can I see you at the Guthrie?”
JM – “As soon as they'll have me. The Guthrie has a great reputation. It has a better reputation than the [theater I don't remember the name of] in Chicago. The Guthrie kicks broadway's butt. But yeah, I'd have to wait at least 10 years though because I have kids and I can't be uprooting them and dragging them around the country.”
Me – “Minnesota is a beautiful, wonderful, safe place to raise children”
JM – laughs

He then talked a little more about how good the Guthrie's reputation is and that he would love to be on stage there someday if they'll have him. He also said that by the time he could commit to it he would be so old he'd be limited in the roles he could consider.
At that point I passed the mike back to the next person and went back to my seat. Yay! I was coherent and not nervous!

Some of the other questions that I remember are that his favorite movie is Apocalypse Now, although “Die Hard was really good.” And when asked if he prefers to be on top or bottom he said “I'm sorry ladies, but I have to say on top” We weren't really sure why he felt the need to apologize for that… He also talked for a bit about his role on this next season of Smallville. He'll be playing Brainiac, and his alter ego will be a college professor named Dr. Fine. He's contracted for 7-10 episodes.

One of the funnier moments was when a woman asked about Steve. The way she phrased it was like they were a couple even though Steve's just his manager. It was something like “You and Steve have been together for a while now. How did you get together.” James totally got the joking nature of the way it was asked and he said into the microphone, “So, how long have we been lovers, Steve?” Steve was just outside the room in the hall and obviously only heard his name in the questioning tone because he peeked his head in with a “What do you need?” look on his face only to be greeted by several hundred women laughing. James then proceeded to tell us that he had to fire two managers before finding Steve and that Steve was fair, honest, and you don't fuck with him.

The Q & A was over way to quickly, and we were left with a few hours before we needed to line up again for the autographs.
At this point it was about 2:00 so we needed food! Also, the shirt I was wearing was kind of warm, and pictures were done so we first headed back to me & [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm hotel to change. I also threw Chiana in my backpack as well as Sandy's CF drive so that I could download all my photos and clear the cards for the evening. With just a quick glance at some of my Q&A pics, I was very happy.

We went to a restaurant that [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear said was pretty good and ate for the first time since breakfast that morning. After food, it was back to the Convention center. As we were walking there we ran into a guy that BB knew from work. He was leaving for the day and so he gave [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear his press pass. His two friends had them too so they gave us all three. I had a press pass! Although we never really did figure out any use for it.

So I had that occular migraine earlier today, and these things almost never lead to a migraine headache, but I think they don't combine well with the quitting of the caffeine, because I came home from school with a headache even though I bought a bottle of caffeine for class (my first one all day!) By the time class was over I had a raging headache.
Then I got home and realized that I had forgotten that we were getting [livejournal.com profile] genevra & [livejournal.com profile] akdar's old fridge delivered to us today, and so [livejournal.com profile] hellbob had had to take care of cleaning it off and emptying it and stuff. Then our old fridge went downstairs to replace the one in [livejournal.com profile] frozendragon's apartment that was so old it just might have been the first electric fridge, ever. Since the new fridge was bigger than the old one, this involved cutting a bigger hole in the wall. [livejournal.com profile] frozendragon got to see The Rick and Jim Show. The show consists of Rick saying "lets do it this way" then Jim (my dad) saying, "no, we should do it this way" and they both proceed to do it their way.
Now Rick had gone with dad to deliver some mattresses to the KalHouse. I'm thinking I should get to bed before my headache comes back.
Also, [livejournal.com profile] dewey921 was over visiting [livejournal.com profile] frozendragon, so I got to show her all my pretty James pics from Toronto. And yes, I got to tell about my Friday hallway encounter with James again! :) I also bestowed a copy of James' music on her with orders to buy the CD from his site if she falls in love with it.

Saturday morning. James Day!

We got up and got ready for our pictures. Luckily the photo shoot was the first thing of the day, so we would all still look good. We opted for the simple breakfast option of just eating at the hotel and then headed to the convention center just after 9am. The line was already stretched down the block, but we had pretty good spots.

At 10:00 when the line went in we headed downstairs to where the photos would be. Turns out we didn’t have to wait in that line outside that we’d been in for 45 minutes. We could have just headed in right away since the line was for people heading upstairs. Grr. So even though we had technically gotten there before her [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear ended up being further up in the line than us.

At first the line had the VIP passes mixed in with the Gold passes, but about 1/2 hour before the photos started they divided us into two lines and at that point we actually ended up being only about 7 spots behind [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear. It was all very nice & civilized. Everyone chatted with the people around them, and we didn’t have to worry about losing our spots when we went up to sit by [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear for a while. We also met some of her Canadian Browncoat friends. I don’t think she had met them before the convention… Right as the photos were going to start Steve, James’ manager, came out and told us that if we wanted to purchase extra photo tickets we could ($40 each! Eeep!) and that they also had photos, CDs and DVDs for sale. Of all the pictures they had I just really loved this one of him holding a guitar & kind of reclining on a couch, and knew that I needed to buy that to get his signature on it. Until that point I had been planning on having him sign the CD.

Because [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm had purchased her DVD through the British site, it was packaged differently. But it also had playability issues. It was supposed to be region free so that it could play anywhere, but of the 3 DVD players she owns, it only worked on one. When she was asking Steve about it, we both kind of expected him to say that she’d have to deal with the British site to get it replaced or refunded, but Steve just took it & stashed it behind the table and handed her the US version! This was the first of many times that Steve impressed us that weekend.

Because of available funds at the time, I had bought the Civilized Man CD and [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm had bought the DVD, and we each made copies of the other. With the savings on shipping and the whole convenience factor we were each able to pick up the one that we didn’t “own” yet.

Because we were all set with our places in line and we all knew that we would have our turn it was all just kind of relaxed and fun as we sat and talked. I’m not sure who coined the term, I’m thinking it was [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear, but we started calling the red VIP badges the “stalker badges” because they got to see James on Fri, Sat, and Sun. Of course, this was 95% jealousy because we didn’t have VIP. Cuz then it wouldn’t have been stalker badges, if we had them!

The VIP line eventually got all their pictures and it was our turn to start going through. They would let a few people at a time go through, and we first went to a table where we were given a piece of paper with a number on it, and we had to tell the woman with the book that had numbered lines that corresponded our names for her to write in. I was number 194. This means that by the time I had my picture taken with him, the poor man had sat through almost 200 photos!

Anyway, the chick asked my name & I said “Sharon” and spelled it. Then she needed the last name & some other smart-ass part of my brain took over and without thinking I said “Marsters.” She started writing it! She got as far as the “Ma-“ before I started laughing & saying, “no, I’m just kidding.” Then it hit her what she was writing… I gave my correct last name, set my bag over by the wall & grabbed moose.

I watched the girl in front of me get her picture and then it was my turn!

Eep! “OK, note to self. Do not turn into a blathering idiot!”

I had seen from the girl in front of me that they would take two pictures, one with James holding the number as a tag for the picture, and then the actual picture. He was sitting on a stool the whole time and it was a whole professional set up with backdrop, lights & the works. As each person walked over for their picture he would turn to face them and greet them.
As I walked up I said “Happy birthday, again. I don’t know if you remember from the hallway last night.” And he smiled and said “Of course.” Then he took the paper w/the number and said “First one’s just a mugshot, doesn’t count.” I’d seen that the second one would come pretty quick after the first so while the mugshot was being taken I asked if he would mind holding my moose for the picture. He took Moose in his left hand and put his right arm around me.
I have never been so glad for the three years I put in working at Proex Portrait Studios! Most people, when getting their pictures taken, don’t instinctively tilt their heads toward each other, even though it makes a better picture. After 3 years of tilting other people’s heads it’s instinct for me to tip mine for photos. So James had Moose in one hand, the other around me and I tipped my head in and so he kind of leaned in towards me too. My temple was touching his head. His hair is soft!

Walking up for the photos was also the first time I noticed that his hair was longer & a reddish brown color. There was a little extra time for the photo compared to some of the others because he was holding Moose too high at first and so the photographer had to have him adjust it.

Then it was over. Too fast! [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm followed with her picture, and we headed upstairs to where the line for the Q & A was.

Still on a fangirl squee-filled high we headed on up the escalator to see who was upstairs signing autographs. The two tables right straight ahead from the escalator were the two non-Marsters folks I was most interested in: Adam Baldwin and Kevin Sorbo. It was cool the way they had it set up with the lines coming from around the backs of the booths so that the walkways didn’t get too crowded. There was a little bit of a line for Adam, but not too bad. I’m guessing that everyone who headed from his panel right up to the autograph line had already gone through.

As with most of the folks there, he was charging for autographs, but that didn’t stop us! [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm & I had the Serenity mini posters from the Minneapolis screening that Ron Glass had already signed, and [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear had one from a Toronto screening that Sean Maher had “signed.” When she put that down for Adam to sign he looked at the illegible squiggle & said “Who is that? That’s Sean, isn’t it?”

The three of us proceeded to tell Adam that we’d all seen the movie twice and we couldn’t wait to get to see the finished film. I’m sure there was some more fangirl-ish blathering, but I couldn’t tell you what exactly. [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm & I also got our pictures taken with him, and for mine he was holding Moose, of course! I was surprisingly not nervous when talking to him. Probably because of my James encounter.

After meeting Adam we contemplated going through the line for Kevin Sorbo’s autograph, but at that point he was leaving to take a quick break. So we made our plans with BB to meet the next morning and we headed on back to the hotel. I hopped on the net to post my “OMG! James smiled & called me love” entry, and then since I was too wired to think about sleeping yet anyway I grabbed [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm’s TicketBastard ticket to go exchange it for her, and wandered back to the convention center with camera, but no moose.

Once the ticket had been successfully exchanged I decided to head upstairs to see if there was anything interesting going on. Kevin was back in his booth, and there wasn’t much of a crowd at this point, so I stopped by to see if I could get a picture. Even though I didn’t have my cash on me, so I couldn’t buy one of his photos, he was really nice & gracious. After we were talking about Minnesota for a little while I was going to take his picture & he insisted that I should be in it too and had his assistant take the picture. (For the most part, the assistants just helped with crowd flow & money taking. There weren’t taking pictures for people.)

There aren’t too many people who turn out to be taller than they look on tv, but he’s one of them! At this point I decided that it was time to call it a night and I headed back to the hotel with a it stop to grab my pillow & blanket. Back in the room [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm & I threw the DVD of James’ 2004 Halloween concert & Q & A session in the laptop & settled in to watch the question session. I already knew at this time that I was going to be asking him about the Guthrie theater, but [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm had no idea what, if anything, she would be asking. Sleep started taking over so we set the alarm and crashed.

Hey all!

Well I managed to waste an entire day in front of the tv with my computer!
My lap didn't get too hot from the computer though because on Friday my ChillPaks arrived, and they make a HUGE difference in the running temp of the computer! Mine look a little different from the ones on the website, because I am apparently one of the first people to get the New & Improved ChillPak Version 2.0. Of course, I never saw Version 1.0 in person so I don't know what the differences are, other than that mine is blue...

All of my pics from the James Marsters Q & A and the James Marsters concert are up in the gallery. Yup, all 176 of them.
I've also got Moose's convention photos up, just not mine. Yeah, I got my priorities: 1. Marsters 2. Moose 3. Me

Yesterday, I was out of work early because it was my flex week. I also had my appointment with the shrink to go over my ADD test results. Apparently I am really smart and only slightly crazy! LOL! He didn't give me the actual number from the IQ test, but I know about where it's at. I also scored in the high 90s percentiles on some knowledge based tests. I found that I still have the most issues with auditory distractions, but one really interesting thing about that was the test results comparing me with & without the Ritalin in my system. The first one, without, I was only at about 50% in the auditory column, The second time when I took it I was almost up at 100% when I had Ritalin. He could also tell that I had had caffeine that day too. :)
Yes, I got the quit the caffeine lecture. I expected it. I knew I needed to eventually anyway. But I like my Diet Mountain Dew! He's also pretty sure I suffer from SAD and will be recommending light therapy. Taking Omega-3 is also recommended. One really interesting fact was that when he mentioned that I should start exercising, and I said that in the last month I had just started with the DDR he said it is absolutely wonderful for ADD people because of the way it works your brain.
It'll be interesting to get his written report so I can see all the results laid out.

Oy, I'm tired. It's hard work doing nothing!

I've got the pics from the Q & A up in the gallery:

Concert will probably be up tomorrow or Friday.

At this point we had each been awake for over 24 hours, other than short naps in the car. The shower made a world of difference in both our energy and our attitude. All showered & ready to go, we now needed to find food. When walking from the parking back to the hotel we had seen an Italian restaurant and decided that was what we needed. I threw my camera & stuff in my backpack and we were off. Since it was just the tail end of the lunch hour the restaurant was pretty empty, but they had a patio area so we opted to sit outside. The weather was GORGEOUS! It wasn’t too hot or muggy, but it was a little warm. There was a wonderful cool breeze though. Our good-looking waiter came on over and asked if he could bring us anything. My response was “I need wine!” So I got a nice glass of Chardonnay, and we each got some really yummy pasta.

We were just a block from the convention center at that point so we got our registration forms filled out, and went to stand in that line. It moved pretty quickly though. We gave them our pretty colorful Canadian money and they gave us a badge that would get us up to the upper level where most of the autograph tables and the dealers were. We instead opted to find the room that Adam Baldwin was in doing a Q & A, which had started about 1/2 hour before. The room was too small for someone as popular as him so there was also a crowd outside in the hall trying to listen.

This was one of the most fortuitous things to happen this weekend because while we were standing there we heard one girl come tell her friend that she’d seen James going from the PR room (right next door to the one Adam was in) to some other room. So of course this caught our attention. There was another girl there who was also frustrated at the not being able to hear Adam and we ended up just kind of standing in the hallway with her going “I can’t believe James was right over there and we didn’t see him!” So we kind of each decided in our fangirl way to hang out in the hallway in case he came back to the PR room.

While just hanging out we were chatting with this other girl. We said we had just driven 16 hours to get there, she said she had driven 10 minutes… This girl we were talking to turned out to be the lovely [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear, and we were hanging out with her for most of the rest of the weekend.

It was at this point that I heard one of the convention guys telling another one to “Go get James, he’s in the press room. Bring him down this hallway to the door at the end” This is the part of the story y’all have already heard, but really, you can’t hear it too often! We were standing there when James came by with his guitar. There were two or three guys with him. I’m sure one was Steve, his manager. I couldn’t tell you which one because as soon as I saw him, James was all I saw. After the encounter [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear & [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm were just amazed at how calm and coherent I was, but I really wasn’t, it apparently just looked that way. Anyway, the way it’s fixed in my mind is kind of surreal. I didn’t see him walk up. I just glanced to my left and he was right there. He was wearing his black “pimp shirt” and carrying his guitar case. As he was walking past my brain was going “OMG! That’s him! He’s right there! OMG! OMG! Etc…” I had been thinking earlier in the weekend that I had to remember to say happy birthday when I got to meet him, but I hadn’t planned it or anything. I think I was as surprised as [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear & [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm when I said in a calm normal voice “Happy Birthday, James.” At this point he had walked just a bit past me and he stopped and turned and smiled. It was one of those real smiles too, where the eyes crinkle. Then he said “Why, thank you love.” And he smiled again, and then turned to continue down the hallway to the room where the concert was gonna be. A couple seconds later we heard the yelling as he entered the room. It’s weird the way memory works. I didn’t realize until the photo shoot that his hair was longer now and brown. Of course I was looking at his face, looking him right in those beautiful eyes. *grin* So my brain just filled in the hair I knew he had (even if it was wrong). Also, that was the only time all weekend that we were standing on the same level, and I realized that we are about the same height. I checked online and he’s officially 5’11” tall. So, he’s just a smidge taller than my 5’ 9.5”.
This encounter was immediately followed by much squeeing and OMGing and “I can’t believe it!” [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear declared me to now be her hero!!
Since there was nothing else going on in the hallway, (and girls? Why didn’t we think of returning to that hallway at the end of the concert? How dumb are we?) we went to exchange our TicketBastard tickets for the convention’s Gold pass tickets for our Day of James! [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm had left hers in her purse in the room, so as not to worry about losing it, but BB & I got ours traded in.
Then it was upstairs to check out the autograph area.

Oh so sleepy... am falling asleep. I'll update again later

I know some bits of my weekend have already been babbled & squeed about, but I'm going to attempt a coherent beginning to end narrative of all the Toronto goodness.

Thursday left work at 5:30 and picked up [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm and headed home. Luckily the drive down 494 from her house to mine was about the worst traffic other than right when we got to Toronto.

At my house we loaded up the rest of my crap, got [livejournal.com profile] frozendragon's stuff loaded up, and hit the road. [livejournal.com profile] frozendragon did all of the driving because she gets carsick when she is a passenger. I only managed to get a little bit of sleep, maybe an hour or so.

We dropped [livejournal.com profile] frozendragon off at her mom’s house at about 4 am and I took over the driving while [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm read the directions to get us back on route through Michigan. The interstate in Michigan SUCKS! The entire thing is bumpy! Also, as soon as we crossed the border there was a Road Construction Next 25 Miles sign. And for the next 25 miles…nothing! Not an orange cone or a lane closed or even a dude standing there looking like he might do some road work, someday. Then a few miles later, another road construction sign. 25 miles later… no construction. I’d say at least half of our drive though Michgan was through “Construction” but we didn’t see ANY! And it’s obvious from the shape of the roads that it’s not that the construction just finished!
OK. That’s enough about Michigan. Crappy state, crappy roads.

We’re at the border. We’ve got drivers licenses, we’ve got gotten punchy as the sun’s come up. We pull up to customs & I hand over our Ids. We get the usual “Where are you going, where are you from, etc.” Then he asks the purpose of our visit and I say we’re going to a Science Fiction convention and he gives me the Look. You know the one. The one where he’s thinking that I dress up like a Klingon and speak strange languages, and all the other stereotypes. Whatever. Then he asks if we have anything to declare besides our clothes. I’m not sure what all we have to declare so I’m saying, “Well we’ve got some snacks for the trip, and my camera, and my laptop…” He then asks “What do you need a laptop for?” And since you can’t lie to the customs dude and I didn’t even think to say that it was to watch DVDs on the drive, I just blurted out “Because I’m addicted to the internet.” And I got another Look. I quickly added “I’ll need to check my email this weekend.” Then he told us to have a good trip and let us into Canada, and, more importantly, out of Michigan!

As we drove away, we started giggling and commenting on how he had no sense of humor. Then [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm says “It’s a good thing we didn’t say the purpose of our visit was to go molest James Marsters” Which led to us coming up with all the things that it was a good thing we didn’t say. One of the best and most disturbed was “To have sex with a 14 year old boy… consensual of course.” This one stemmed from the fact that the Toronto guide book I had actually mentioned that the age of consent for both gay and straight sex was 14, unless the older person was in a position of authority over the younger one, then it is 18. We were also coming up with “better” answers to “Why do you need a laptop?” “Because you need a computer to cruise for internet porn!”

But, we were in Canada now, and trying to adapt to the KPH system rather than the MPH. It wasn’t too tough, but I couldn’t figure out at first how much you could speed in Canada. In the US I knew that 5 MPH pretty much doesn’t count, 10 MPH on an interstate will usually be fine, and 15 MPH will get you there a bit faster but it isn’t so fast as to guarantee a ticket. I wasn’t sure how that would translate in KPH though, or even how strict the Canadian Police were, or if it was just a moot point altogether because the Mounties horses couldn’t really catch up to you at 100 KPH, let alone faster!
Ended up settling in at about (aboot?) 130 KPH which is 80 MPH. We made pretty good time overall, but this would come back to kick us in the butt later.

We were getting close to Toronto, just on the outskirts, when traffic stopped. Grr! We knew it couldn’t be rush hour because it was only 12:00 their time. Turns out that a semi had broken down…In the middle frickin’ lane!! We got past that and on into the downtown area where we would be staying. We found our hotel. There was no “park here while you check in” parking spot, so I pretty much just parked and put the hazards on. We went in and our room wasn’t ready. Also, they had us booked for a room w/a single bed rather than two beds. We ended up hauling in some of our bags to check and then went in search of lunch. The few food places we were seeing didn’t have any parking and we eventually gave up and decided to find the parking the hotel had recommended and park the car and trek back to the hotel with the rest of our stuff because our room should be ready. It was, and we promptly decided that we both needed to shower and change before getting food.

I'm on my lunch now, so no real time to try to update.
I'm home from Toronto. I had another insane stretch of no sleep. Woke up at 8:00am (7:00am MN time) in Toronto on Sunday. Did the CN Tower & a last wander through the convention, freed the car from the parking garage & hit the road. For some reason the drive back took substantially longer and we can't figure out why because the only real stop was about 15 minutes at the border.

Speaking of the border...
Not, "oh, that was kind of a quick glance" or anything like that. He never even physically touched our driver's licenses and birth certificates!!! Y'all are lucky I'm not a terrorist!

So anyway the drive back took so long that I got to my house at 6:00am, took a 5 minute shower, hugged Hellbob, grabbed my stuff and ran out the door to work, with [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm still in tow because she lives just south of work. I stopped at Byerly's to grab paper plates & plastic utinsels for the work potluck (I was smart enough to grab the non-food option when the signup went around!) and headed to work. We figured I would be late to work if I took [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm home, so she dropped me off at work & took my car for the day. Then she came back at 4:30 so I could have it back. Yup, I worked my 9 hr shift (plus .5 hr for lunch) with exactly ZERO hours of sleep!! Went to bed about 10 or so after falling asleep while typing.

I have school tonight! Yay! Just one class one night a week, but it's advanced Photoshop!!

I haven't even caught up on my reading, let alone my Con report. Soon. Really. But until then, here is another picture from the weekend...

Me & Moose with James Marsters
hellziggy: (Default)
Last day in Toronto... It's been such a wonderful long weekend, even with the severe lack of sleep. We're getting ready to do a smidge of sightseeing (we haven't gone up in the CN Tower yet) We are also going to briefly hit the convention to hopefully actually catch Crispin Glover at his autograph booth. Then we will be wandering our way out of town, and out of the country.
We had the unexpected bonus this weekend of making a new friend (hi [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear!).
We were really impressed with James' manager Steve as he found ways to deal with things like the unplanned for mob of Elijah Woods fans congregated where we were supposed to be getting autographs with James.
We got to see James turn pretty red as a room full of people all sang Happy Birthday to him.
We got to talk to Adam Baldwin a couple times.
We discovered that I apparently don't need my brain to ask coherent questions.
Yeah, it was a good weekend, and now I get to head back home to my wonderful [livejournal.com profile] hellbob, who I still think should have come with because he would have had a lot of fun too!
hellziggy: (Default)
I got to talk to this guy a few times, got my picture taken w/him, saw a concert.
Yeah, my day didn't suck!
hellziggy: (Default)
OK, awake now. Maybe slightly more coherent... *grin*

Did I mention yet that James talked to me?
Did I mention yet that he smiled?
Did I mention yet that he called me love?

OK, there's other people here too. Adam Baldwin we doing a Q & A in a room that was waaaaay to small for him. So we were out in the hallway. i did the hold the camera over my head thing to take some pictures.
This is where we started talking to a girl who was standing there with us, and where we heard that James would be coming down that hallway at some point. Found out she was a fellow LJer. We chatted as we waited for the Adam Baldwin room to clear out so we could get a closer look at him. Then, as we had nothing better to do, we hung out waiting to catch a glimpse of James and to also possible take a photo. You might have heard about the rest... *grin*

So since [livejournal.com profile] blond_bear was a Toronto native we decided to follow her whether she liked it or not! *grin* Also, she actually already knew where some things were, like where to exchange our Ticketmaster ticket for the real thing, and where the autograph areas were and stuff.

After much retroactive squeeing over our James encounter we got our James tickets for tomorrow. Then we headed upstairs and got in the Adam Baldwin line. I got his autograph added to my Ron Glass one, and then guess who got his photo taken with him? Yup! Moose! And me too!!

Kevin Sorbo was right there in the booth next to Adam. I didn't talk to him then, but I did later.
Hey, [livejournal.com profile] genevra, I touched Kevin Sorbo!!!!!!! And chatted with him for a little while. About things like how good the food is at Lord Fletcher's on Lake Minnetonka. And I got my picture taken with him.

OK. Time for breakfast! More later!
hellziggy: (Default)
Damn. I was gonna read my flist & then post more detailed. Didn't happen. I am falling asleep here. Tomorrow.
hellziggy: (Default)

Biggest Mother Fucking Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!

James Marsters walking down the hallway to a room filled with fans who have more money to spend on their obsession than me.
Carrying his guitar. Wearing a black shirt and black pants and looking very, very good.
He was literally a foot and a half from me.
He stopped.
He smiled **at me**!
He said "Why thank you, love."
He smiled some more.

All because somehow my "Oh My God, there he is!" brain somehow told my mouth to say "Happy Birthday James!" as he was walking by!!!!!!!!

OMG!!!! And we haven't even gotten to do any of the stuff from our Marsters ticket yet.

Haven't touched him yet.

I will be back online in a few hours. There will be a more coherent update then to include things like Adam Baldwin, Kevin Sorbo, super sweet & helpful Toronto LJ chick, and maybe another squee or two.
