Just hanging out and watching tv with Rick tonight. We just had a Joel McHale double feature of the latest episodes of The Soup and Community.
Community really is one of the funniest shows on right now. McHale is awesome, but my favorite character is Danny Pudi's Abed.

Yesterday after work was another road trip down to Rochester, cuz Sunspot was playing at Kathy's Pub again. As usual, they fucking rocked!
We started off with dinner at the Canadian Honker again. So good! And when I checked in on FourSquare I became the mayor! I'm the mayor of the Canadian Honker. LOL
Because we got dinner, we missed most of the first set, which was unfortunate because that one was acoustic. :( Caught the last few songs though. And then the next 3 sets were all electric. Those guys always put on such a good show.
We got Rick's high school friend Pete to come on out to the show too, and then we went back to stay at his house. Pete & Paula cooked us breakfast, then we headed on back home. The only thing I accomplished today was a nap!

In lieu of actual content, here are some pictures from the waterfront last Tuesday:

I've got a few of them:

Damn. I knew some of these would be tougher than others:

Day 09 — A photo you took
OK, maybe not so tough. LOL.

Here's one from our trip to Seattle the summer of 2004. I just love the colors of it:

Yes, two days at once. I missed yesterday because when we got home from watching the SuperBowl last night the tubes to our house were plugged so we had no internets.

Day 07 — A photo that makes you happy

For this one, I know y'all totally expect me to use this photo:

but a photo that makes me even happier is this one:

After 17 years I still love that boy more than anything!

Day 08 — A photo that makes you angry/sad

So many things out there that can make me angry or sad. This is just one of them:

I went out to the Fort Snelling Upper Post this evening to take pictures. I got lots of good ones. Here's one of the shots. I'll post more after I finish doing post on them.

I got to see my first real live bee hive on Saturday! It was sooooo cool.
Virginia has a bee hive over at the Midway Green Spirit Community Garden in Saint Paul, Minnesota and Saturday was some community garden open house thingy.

I took pictures. Yes, I know this is shocking to most of you because of my well documented fear of cameras... LOL.

Warning: There will be pictures of bees here, so if bees freak you out you should skim on past. :)

Virginia & Diane prying off the top box.

Just look at that frame loaded down with honey! This one was pretty heavy. Virginia asked if anyone felt brave enough to come hold it to see how heavy it was. Heck yeah! I jumped at that chance. The only other person who did was a kid who was about 10 or so and thought it was just the coolest thing ever.

A newborn! This little dude is crawling out of his cell for his first look at the wide world.

And I got to hold him! Since he was a drone he didn't have a stinger so I wasn't even in any danger of getting stung.

And that was my Saturday afternoon with Virginia and her bees.

And OMG, honey straight out of the hive was YUMMY!!!

It was so beautiful out today that after brunch with [livejournal.com profile] genevra & [livejournal.com profile] akdar I decided that I needed to take my gigantic lens and head out to the park. I went to the North Mississippi Regional Park.
I saw two new lifer birds!
A Yellow Warbler (Dendroica petechia)

And a Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum)

Despite all the other cool birds (and a camera shy woodchuck!) I eventually made it down to the shore right across from the heron rookery. Tons of Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias), and there were babies!

More photos over at Flickr

I ♥ my huge lens!

My plans for tomorrow? Terminator Salvation preview screening! w00t!!

I really don't have time to be posting right now (or reading for that matter...), but I thought I'd share a bit of Chicago:

I gave [livejournal.com profile] kalfoley a call last nite before heading out to the Terminal Bar and she was up for going to see a band she'd never heard of so we made our plans to meet up there. Then when we walked in I saw [livejournal.com profile] ninja_tech! She'd decided last minute to come meet up with me and check out Sunspot too! Yay! I went from going to the concert by myself to having 2 friends to hang out with. :)

[livejournal.com profile] kalfoley & I had completely missed the first band, Skittish. [livejournal.com profile] ninja_tech said they were good, and I'd liked what I'd heard of them online. Oh well, that wasn't who I was there to see.

As we made our way up to find a spot near the stage I saw SunspotWendy who gave me a hug. I introduced her to the "Sunspot virgins" I'd brought with me. We got settled into a table right near the stage and chatted until the next band started.

This was a band that I'd also never heard of, Mass Drastic. They were really good! We all liked them and really liked the lead singer's voice. Unfortunately they don't have a CD yet, so I couldn't buy one. :( Since they are local I plan on going to see them play again sometime soon.

Mass Drastic:

After some more time getting to chat with [livejournal.com profile] kalfoley & [livejournal.com profile] ninja_tech, it was time for Sunspot to take the stage!!!

They had it cranked to eleven! They started the set with Prozac Girl. Not even halfway through the song Ninja leaned over to me and said, "Yeah, I'm gonna like these guys." Yay! KalFoley also liked them right off the bat. Yay!

To the best of my recollection, these are the songs they played:
(but not necessarily in this order)
Prozac Girl
Summer Day
More Than My Degree
Sweet Relief
My Own Worst Enemy
Scott Bakula

It seems like there should be more than that but I just can't think of them right now.

Ben & Mike:

You can find a few more pictures in my gallery

After Sunspot was done we decided we should hang out and check out the last band. While Ninja & KalFoley were out smoking, one of the band members had told them to expect a "vocal orgasm." Well... They started playing and while the music wasn't bad, the lead singer just wasn't that good. I don't know if it was because he wasn't entirely sober, or if he's always not that good. Also, they had a guy on stage in a penguin suit. Not singing or playing an instrument or anything. Just up there jumping around. Weird!
(Yes, I know, I didn't name the band. I wasn't there to see them, so there's no point in totally trashing a band I'd never even heard of.)

So we moved to the back of the bar where the music wasn't so loud so we could talk. *edit* OMG! Ninja reminded me in the comments of their oh so awesome song lyrics. "Fucking Deanna in her vagina." Yes people, it was totally as awesome as it sounds. It was at this point where I made a comment about the vocal orgasm that Ninja insisted that I remember to post online:
They promised a vocal orgasm. This is more like when you fake it to get them to finish and roll off of you.

When they finally were done, we were hanging out chatting w/SunspotMike. He'd set his iPhone on the stage and couldn't find it, so I gave him my cell to call it with as he walked around listening for the ring. He found it! Also, I promised to stalk him now that I have his phone number. :P Anyhow, when he came back with his phone I was telling how EXTREMELY JEALOUS I was that he'd gotten to see Patrick Stewart & David Tennant do Hamlet when he was in England. This led to us Doctor Who geeking and he showed of the pictures he had on his phone from the Doctor Who Exhibit in Cardiff. So cool! Moose has been there too. I want to go.

When SunspotBen dragged him off to help with hauling their equipment, KalFoley bought a Sunspot CD and we got ready to go. After we got everyone to sign it for her we headed out the back door. SunspotMike was out there and so we started talking some more. He's soooo "one of us!" Our geeky conversation ran the gamut from D&D to Star Trek to GenCon to CONvergence to Alan Moore to Neil Gaiman to Doctor Who/Torchwood to sci-fi porn (Flesh Gordon). (Although not necessarily in that order.) We were talking for a good half hour at least. SunspotWendy was also out there by the time we left so we said goodbye to her again, and then all headed to my car. Since I was parked the closest I dropped the other two girls off at their cars and headed on home. Got home a little after 3:00 and curled up next to a nice warm [livejournal.com profile] hellbob.
All in all, it was a really great nite!

I headed down to downtown St. Paul after work today to try to get standby tickets for The Daily Show. The line was too long for me to make it in though. *sigh* I might try again tomorrow afternoon.

When I headed out after that I saw a crowd at the capitol building so I parked and wandered over with my camera. It was a peaceful anti-war demonstration. When it was time for them to disperse when the permit expired at 5pm they started marching toward the XCel Center. The police blocked them at the bridge and didn't let them go any further. I took some pictures and then headed home.

And here's a link to the STrib article about where I was.

I've been thinking for a while that I should get some Moo cards made up with some of my photos. That way I can easily give people the link to my gallery and such.

So, do I go with the cute l'il Mini Moo cards? Or should I do the regular business card size?

Also, what is your reasoning for the size you picked?

I got my copy of City Birds, Country Birds in the mail from Adventure Publications yesterday! :)
I'm officially a published photographer! \0/
Besides my pictures there are tons of awesome pictures in it. It's also a really fun read. Birdchick's personality definitely comes through, and I know I'm going to get a ton of useful info from it.

Unfortunately Amazon doesn't show it as available yet and just has a publication date of September 2008. Borders also doesn't show it as being available, and has a release date of September 01, 2008.

Adventure Publications does have it available to order, but it is at the cover price of $14.95 rather than the $10.17 it will be from Amazon. Since I'm planning to pick up copies for me & [livejournal.com profile] hellbob's parental units, I'm going to wait until I can save a little money to get them. Heck, I may be a published photographer, but I *am* an unpaid published photographer after all!

Clicky here or on picture to get to the publisher's site!

I worked a full 8+ hours today. But it felt longer because over half of those hours were spent taking stuff apart, draining chemicals, and putting stuff back together. Urgh. Something had caused one of the tanks of chemicals on one of our photo printing machines to go funky. It REEKED! Smelled like rotten eggs/sulfer. And the filter wasn't pretty either. So yeah, long day...

Late yesterday afternoon I headed on down to take pictures of the eagle's nest by the 5-8 club. Unfortunately Mike, the guy I had met when out there on Friday, was there and said that he hadn't seen the baby eaglet at all on Sunday or yesterday, so he was figuring the worst. Poor little birdie. :( So no picture with the baby, but here's a pretty good shot of one of the parents.

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob & I have started making tentative plans to invade Chicago to visit us some Nibleys. It's been waaaay to long! We'll also be traveling for a wedding this month (in WI). And Brian from Coverville planted a seed of an idea in my head about going to the New Media Expo in Las Vegas this August. He's got some hella-cool plans for show #500. Of course, if we do go to the NME, I'll have to take Stunt Double Moose, since Real Moose will be off in the Galapagos Islands!!! I do so love to travel... Why can't I be independently wealthy??
