There is a kick-ass photo blog out there called The Big Picture at boston.com. Every couple days they do a post full of big gorgeous pictures on a subject. November 10th it was Scenes from Antarctica!

32 photos of the awesomeness that is Antarctica. Here is part of one:

Ice

(This is just part of that picture. I didn't think y'all would want me borking up your friends page with a 990 pixel wide picture.)

It was really fun for me to scroll through the pictures and stop at #15 and go "Hey! I've seen that picture before. That is Jon, one of this years Winter-overs at the Pole!" LOL! [livejournal.com profile] 30toseoul had posted it in her journal a couple months ago.

It's been quite a while since I had a link-filled linkarific post...

1. Will Shetterly has put the text of two of his books online for free: Dogland, and its sequel The Gospel of the Knife.
They are both under a Creative Commons "Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported" license. For more information, see http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/.
note: I have not read either of these yet, so if you don't like them, don't blame me!

2. Ginormous is a real word now, and RPG doesn't stand for Role Playing Game. Here is a list of some of the words added to the ©2007 update of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate® Dictionary, Eleventh Edition

3. Cool! It's a plastic pocket that attaches to an electrical outlet so that you can put your cell phone, etc in it instead of on the floor when it is charging. Socket Pocket

4. This one is mostly for the Minneapolis people on my flist. Flyspy is a site where you can put in the cities you want to travel from and to and it will show you the fare prices based on your departure date and how many days you will be staying on a chart so it is easy to figure out if flying on a different day will radically change the fare. An interesting example of how just a day or two difference can make a big change in price is the Minneapolis-Austin for 4 nights chart. Over a seven day span, starting w/July 30, the lowest found rates are 7/30-$688, 7/31-$297, 8/1-$394, 8/2-$492, 8/3-$394, 8/4-$297, 8/5-$688. You save over 50% by flying from Mpls to Austin on a Tuesday or Saturday rather than a Sunday or Monday!
Disclaimer time: The dude who made this site is from Mpls, so that is the departure city he did first. It is still the only departure city to choose from although he says more will be added eventually. Also, this appears to just check Northwest Airlines prices. As as you lovely Minnesotans on my flist know, NWA sucks. But they are often the only real option when booking flights. So, this chart will show you their fare fluxuations. But I'd still look into what other airlines have for the days you are booking. If you can get Sun Country for about the same price as NWA you will get HOT FOOD on your flight!

5. This link is especially for [livejournal.com profile] hellbob because he got such a kick out of it. This is one of BirdChick's Disapproving Rabbits pages, and at the very top of it is a video of Cinnamon eating a piece of parsley. Seriously adorable!

6. And last, but certainly not least, links to various pages talking about James Marsters' upcoming guest spot on Torchwood.

James said that his role is "going to offend some, titillate others - to the point where they would need to finish themselves off afterwards." While he remained cryptic about the details, Syfyportal says there were implications that something "omnisexual" was going to occur in the episode. HERE

The next fan, from the UK, said she’d ask James if he gets to snog Captain Jack in Torchwood, but that she knew he wouldn’t tell her. “I’d love to snog him! I’ve never seen Captain Jack, but I have a feeling he’s a hot guy!” After that statement, he sang, “Everyone is gay!” (to the tune of “All Apologies.”)
This is part of Whedonopolis' convention report from Fangoria HERE

Here’s what he (John Barrowman) had to say about Marsters’ second-season guest spot: “There’s a scene between he and Jack when they first meet, all I’ll say is, this scene is so hot, so horny, so violent, that all the fans who watch it are going to [er, appreciate it greatly].”
I can’t put on this site what Barrowman actually said, but trust me, it made the scene sound intensely steamy.
From a reporter who got to talk to Barrowman HERE

Yeah, I might be looking forward to that episode a little bit... *grin*

Yesterday I used a couple hours of vacation time to go to the banding of the baby peregrine falcons at the Colonnade building.
How cute is she?:

I saw Birdchick there, and  [profile] lablynneaka Hasty Brook. You can read a description of it at Birdchick's blog here

OK, pic spam to follow, and since I'm updating at work instead of home I'm not sure if I'll have time to figure out the LJ cut...

Through a Twitter friend I discovered a cool new band: Dolapdere Big Gang.
They are a Turkish band that covers English songs.

Warning! MySpace page with auto-play music
Yes, MySpace pages that automatically play music are evil, but since the reason I'm sending you there is to listen to the music I'm not gonna feel bad about it!

The only way to order this album in the U.S. is through Ebay which I will be doing later this weekend. It's pretty much a guarantee that you will be hearing some of their music on Coverville in the near future too because I forwarded the link to Brian and he really liked it too. :)

Birdchick has put up one post about our adventures yesterday. This one is really cool because not only does it have a picture of the lovely Miss Cinnamon, but it's got one of my pictures of the Sharp-shinned Hawk and also the picture of me releasing him!
The post is here

I got THIS at work today. A Ben Franklin action figure. I had a WTF moment until it dawned on me that it was most likely something from The History Channel Club.
The best part about it was going to the web page. They've got quite the range of characters: Vincent van Gogh, Crazy Cat Lady, Houdini, Jesus... Even Oscar Wilde (reformed homosexual)

I found the link to these commercials on John "The PC" Hodman's, blog.
Oddly surreal.

*edit*
I suppose if I'm posting a link, I should put the link in!

Evo posted this link up on the Wingin' It page, and it is funny, so I post it here for you:

And since I'm stealing the link, I will also steal what Evo had to say about it:

"Tim Callender from the Babylon Podcast sent me a link to “The Unified Field Crossover History of the Universe“, which has been meticulously researched and often delves into utter geekdom, but even I found hi-larious.

If you ever wondered what the Doctor was doing at the time the Vulcans were getting into space travel and just what the Vorlons had to do with the birth of Jesus, you’ll like it too."

I got another 75 or so pics from the Queen Mary event processed and put in the gallery.
I finished the Harsh Light of Day commentary pics and moved on to the Saturday night concert. For those keeping track at home this would be outfit number FIVE for James on Saturday. :)
The newest pics start about halfway down this page

And here are a couple previews for you:

All photos are © 2006 Sharon M.S. Snyder. Do not use or post anywhere without permission. No hotlinking please, but you may post links to this post or to the gallery.

So I uploaded a bunch more Queen Mary pics of James a couple days ago and forgot to let y'all know... D'oh!

Anyhow, they are here: http://www.dreamflyte.com/gallery/MarstersSaturdayQM

I have finished the Q & A pics with James in the white shirt and have started on the Harsh Light Of Day commentary pics where James is on Saturday's outfit #4 - a dark button-down shirt.

Remember, no hot-linking to the pics, and no posting elsewhere without permission, although posting a link is fine. :)

I don't remember who on my flist I got this link from, but it's important for all of you having sex who don't want/aren't ready for a baby.

I remember now... it was [livejournal.com profile] caitirin

It's a site where you can put your zip code in and it will tell you the closest places to get Emergency Contraception (EC), also called Plan B.

This is not the abortion pill!
EC is also known as the morning after pill.

If the condom breaks, if you get drunk and have unprotected sex, if you have sex against your will, if for any reason after having sex you are at risk of an unwanted pregnancy, EC can prevent it.

It is the same hormones as Birth Control Pills, just in a more concentrated dose.

This is something I feel should always be available to anyone who needs it.

Having EC available does not promote promiscuity and unsafe sex, it just prevents unwanted children. Condoms are still a cheaper & more reliable option. But sometimes they fail, and sometimes they aren't used.

EC is called "Plan B" because it isn't supposed to be your primary method of birth control. With good reason. If it is something you have to take, it most likely will make you nauseous as all hell for a day because of all the hormones. It's not fun, but it's better than the alternative.

So use condoms, because as a caller to the Penn Jillette radio show said, "I'm not a bigger slut because I have condoms, I'm a safer slut." but if that plan should fail, here is the link to where you can find Plan B.

Emergency Contraception, Plan B, Morning-After Pill...
