I'm so sick of CVS/Caremark!

I complained about being forced to use a CVS pharmacy instead of the Walgreen's we'd been using for 10 years last fall when we got the notification about the change in our insurance. I found out that one of the two brands of generic Ritalin that CVS carries does work, just not quite as well as Walgreen's generic. I also found out that CVS has one brand of generic that sucks donkey balls. And I found out that when I dropped off my prescription I could tell them which one I needed them to use.

How it normally works:
1) Rx Plan: "You have to do 90 day refills on maintenance meds *and* you have to use CVS Pharmacy.
2) Explain new pain in the ass plan to Awesome Doctor. She writes all our Rx for 90 days
3) Find a CVS Pharmacy even though we've been very happy w/our local Walgreens for the last 10+ years.
4) Drop off Ritalin Rx at new pharmacy. They say "90 days? No problem."
5) Pick up Ritalin...
6) Pharmacy: "The Rx Plan won't cover 90 days, only 30. Probably because it's schedule 2"
7) Call Rx Plan for options.
8) Rx Plan: "No, you're covered for 90 day pickup at the store. Doesn't matter if it's Sched 2. I did a test script and it worked.
9) Me: Pull out freaking hair! Then call Awesome Doctor for new 90 day script because the last one ended up only being used for 30.

And of course, that was how it worked today. They entered it in the computer while I waited, it said only 30 days, they called the Rx Plan who said "Yup, only 30 days on that one."

I took the script back until I can figure out what to do. Then I called the customer service line. This time I *hope* I got the only smart person they have answering phones there because I LOVED her answer.
1) I can only get 30 days at a time of Ritalin because it's Schedule 2.
2) It's not considered a "Maintenance Medication" even though I take it every single day!
this rocks because
3) If it's not a Maintenance Med I can get it filled at ANY damn pharmacy I want and I'm not restricted to only being allowed to fill 2 times at pharmacies that aren't CVS!

I can go back to our Walgreen's for my Ritalin again! This makes me so happy! Not just because their version works better either. We never wanted to switch pharmacies. That decision was forced on us. If this chick was right and I'm not restricted in where I can go I can now go to the place *I* choose. That would be the pharmacy that has given us 10 years of problem-free service and is convenient. \0/

Reading and posting on LJ improves my mood. I should remember this. I miss you all, even though I see a lot of you on the Facebook and the Twitters.

Getting out to see people improves my mood. I should remember this. I had a FABULOUS time at the State Fair last night. First I took pictures of farm animals and stuff. Then I watched a set & a half of Martin Zellar. It was actually 3/4 of the Gear Daddies because both Nick & Randy were there. Then [livejournal.com profile] 7thstranger & I walked & chatted as I took more pictures and I ate some cheese on a stick.

Finding out that a friend has died does not improve my mood. [livejournal.com profile] gingerpook lost her battle with cancer this morning. You'll be missed Ginger.

I haven't been posting much for a variety of reasons. Not a lot going on in my everyday life, random thoughts going in short bursts to Facebook or Twitter instead, not having time when I do feel like posting.

But the main reason is that I haven't been doing much of anything lately.

Depression sucks. )

The Attention Deficit Disorder Association is holding it's annual conference in Minneapolis this year!
Just imagine... Hundreds of adults with AD/HD all gathered in one place. LOL!
The info on the conference is HERE. For the full conference it's $399 for a non-member, but it is only $199 for students.
Besides the $199 pricetag, the big drawback for me would be that my birthday actually falls on a Saturday this year and it is smack-dab in the middle of the conference. :(
But some of the sessions sound soooo useful for me:

My Fed-Ex package was waiting for me when I got home. Opened it up, and pulled out... iLife! Looked at Brian's original email w/the shipping info & sure enough he accidentally ordered the wrong one. After how much Fed-Ex annoyed me I just had to laugh.

Was going to go to the Apple store to see if it could be exchanged there and [livejournal.com profile] hellbob asked how much iLife goes for. Told him that it is the same as iWork, $79. Well, he thought iLife/GarageBand was way more expensive than that, $200 at least. So he's decided that if it's only $79 he's gonna buy a legal copy. So now instead of trying to exchange the one I got I'll just pick up iWork at the Apple store.

We watched the pilot episode of Sci-Fi's Flash Gordon. Ouch. Painfully bad. "imex. What's an imex?" [livejournal.com profile] hellbob compared Flash Gordon to a Sci-Fi Saturday feature, but without the heart & soul that makes them fun...

The Space Shuttle Endeavour landed safely this afternoon! The came home early to avoid the hurricanes an storms, and the damaged tile didn't cause any problems. Yay!

Found out on the ride up to the cabin that my [livejournal.com profile] technomonkey_m ♥ Me First & the Gimme Gimmes! You go boy!

Contemplating setting my Twitter account to protected. Not because I don't want people to be able to read my tweets, but because the random adds by people who add hundreds and thousands of twitterers annoy me, and those are always right after I make a post which would have shown up on the public timeline. I like the idea of real people finding me and adding me though. I dunno. I think they would also stop showing up on the RSS feed, but I think the only non-twitter person reading that is [livejournal.com profile] genevra.

Applied for several jobs during my emo day at home yesterday. Don't know why I never thought of it sooner, but instead of searching for the key word "photoshop" I searched for just "photo." There were a couple jobs at local custom labs that I applied for. There is one that I am really hoping calls me back because I am uber-qualified and the pay is in the range I need and since it is part time with the possiblility of full time I should hopefully be able to work it around the school schedule. Not even going to say the name though because I don't want to jinx it. I wanted that Memorial Blood Centers job that I didn't get too badly and don't want to deal w/that again. *edit* The one I was really hoping would call me back emailed me and wants me to call "at my earliest convenience." to talk about the position! Yay!

Because I was having such a bad day yesterday when [livejournal.com profile] hellbob stopped to pick up my drugs for me he also got me chocolate. Unfortunately Byerly's didn't have Vosges anymore. :(

My mood is definitely much improved today.

I have become oddly addicted to "Scott Baio is 45 and Single." No, I can't explain it, I just am.

A cool new way to see independent films that don't come to your town:
From [livejournal.com profile] poyboy's journal: Independent film Hannah Takes The Stairs is playing in NYC tomorrow, but if your city has IFC InTheaters you can watch it at home tomorrow too. )
Here in the Cities, when I put my zip code in the IFC site says that Comcast Cable has this but DirecTV doesn't. If you have Comcast and are a fan of independent film, you should look into this.

And while I'm pimping friends' stuff, y'all should go watch This Day In Alternate History if you're not already. There have been 41 episodes already. They're all about 5 minutes long or so, and they are a total riot. They are hosted by MightyMur, aka [livejournal.com profile] sailormur and HoboZero, aka [livejournal.com profile] cryptonaut. Find them HERE.

Also, are you listening to Escape Pod yet? Top notch sci-fi stories read by talented people. This is [livejournal.com profile] sfeley's baby, and he's a very good daddy! The latest episode, #119 Aliens Want Our Women, was read by the supah-sexay Leann from the TitS podcast. Go listen now.

So anyway, there's a bunch of the random stuff floating in my brain today. Yes, I was having a VERY bad day yesterday. But I am much better today. Better living through chemistry, yo.

*note* although this post has the goat-fucking tag, it does not contain any actual goat fucking. The tag still just amuses me and I wanted to use it!

I'm at work and I just soooooo don't want to be.
This is the last day of our Nibley invasion because they are heading back to Chicago tomorrow. At least they think they are. I think I will kidnap them and lock them in our basement apartment so I can keep them forever! It has been so wonderful having them here and I don't want them to leave!
We have snow here! Yay! It looks like a Minnesota January, finally!
School starts for me on Wednesday.
Urg. I have no focus today here at work because besides being in a "don't wanna be here!" mood I am also unmedicated. ADD girl needs her Ritalin!!!
And now my break is over and I have to go back to work.
*uses mental powers to Hiro the clock to 4:30*
*doesn't work*

[livejournal.com profile] hellbob's company was bought by Boston Scientific so we have a new prescription provider this year, PharmaCare. Whatever. As long as we get our drugs for just a copay it's the same difference to us.

So yesterday, I went happily skipping into Walgreens with my methylphenidate (Ritalin) prescription all fresh & shiny and autographed by my doctor. Dropped it off and came back for it a couple hours later.
Couldn't get it.

Apparently my prescription insurance is worried that it may be overprescribed. They have to have an authorization from the doctor stating why I need to take it.

Now this isn't a refill that's run out so they need a doctor's authorization. Oh no. Methylphenidte is a Schedule II controlled substance ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DEA_Schedule_1#Schedule_II_drugs ) so I figure that's why. Because it's Schedule II I can't get more than 1 month at a time. I have to have a physical prescription each time. The doctor can't call in or fax in the prescription. I can't get post-dated prescriptions from her. No. Each and every month I have to call the clinic to have her write the script. Then I have to haul ass after work to get to the clinic to pick it up before they close (It's for ADD! Of course I don't order it early enough to have them mail me the prescription!) Then I have to go to the pharmacy to drop it off and then either wait for it or remember to go back for it.
Pain in the butt.

But the best part about them now also wanting the doctor to tell them why she wrote me a prescription? (other than the fact that as a medical doctor she is waaaaaay more qualified to say what meds I need than they are?) They only want doctor authorization on methylphenidate IF THE PATIENT IS OVER 18 YEARS OLD!!!

Yes, in a country where almost all articles on ADD/ADHD are talking about how over-diagnosed and over-medicated it is in children my prescription company doesn't care if you want to give it to a kid.
But god forbid a grown woman who knows how to take care of herself wants it! An adult whose dose hasn't increased in over 4 years. An adult who has never done any illegal drug other than drinking alcohol between ages 18-20. Don't let her have that Ritalin! She might be a speed freak!
Fucking bureauocracy!

[livejournal.com profile] hundredpics day 10:

Dude, if I didn't need to take these and if we had any kind of a dealer connection... That bottle of pills has a street value of about $450. It was over $500 when I first got it filled. I only paid $10 for it... And they say crime doesn't pay!

Better living through chemistry!
I've gotta say, it's much better being at work today with codeine than it was on Tuesday without!

Also, I never expected that I would ever use this mood choice, so this is the first time i've seen what firefly pic they picked to go with it...

I'm having a cranky, crabby, crappy day, surrounded by lots of giddy, geeky fangirlness.

The video of James Marsters' London performances is for sale on the English site: http://www.jamesmarsterslive.com/
They also have a short video clip of him backstage performing that will only be on the site for a week: http://www.jamesmarsterslive.com/extra.shtml

If you're in America and want to order it, you don't have to order it from England. According to an email I got from Steve in regards to if it would be available here in the states: "Yes, our webmaster at www.jamesmarsters.com is just a little slower - stay tuned for all the details!" That Steve Himber is one verbose bastard, isn't he? hee hee. I think that just may be one of the longest emails he's ever sent me. :)

And of course, the Wil Wheaton podcast I mentioned last post: http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/2005/12/radio_free_burr.html

I've listened to it now & I really liked it. I've got lots of geeky fangirl love for Wil. I love his writing, and having already listened to the audio version of "Just A Geek" I already knew I liked hearing him speak. The podcast was very fun and unrehearsed, much like his writing. There was one bad thing about it though, in that it was too short!!

Work is kind of sucking today because I've had too many distractions and interuptions so I feel like I've done nothing. And actually I've done a little bit more than nothing. But not as much as I should have, or could have. OK work people, when I am done with lunch the headphones are going on. The music will be loud.
(emails from [livejournal.com profile] lucky13charm still welcome, of course. They may just not be answered in a timely manner...)

*edited to add:*

Oh yeah, and Gear Daddies!!!

Got an email from the Porn Queen:

WED DEC 28 2005 DRS 8PM

General admission/standing room only
US $26.00 - US $28.00

21+ show

I really wanna go! I have no money for tickets until at least Monday because I have no money.
Niki here at work is seriously considering it because she is getting married on 12-31, has never seen the Gear Daddies live, and will seriously need stress relief at that point.

I had an appointment today with my Ritalin dealer psychiatrist and I found out that he is retiring. *sigh* I actually have a doctor I like, he's all of 10 minutes from my house, he actually deals with a fair amount of ADD people, and now I have to find someone new. Can't even just switch to someone else there because he's the only one at that office with prescribing power.
So now I have to find a new Medica approved shrink, wait forever to see them, because first appointments are always months out, and hope that I like them. In the mean time he said to call the office in about 3 weeks when he will still be there, but it's within the time frame that a new prescription can be written and they will mail me a prescription to get me through the next month.
I have to make an appointment for a physical at the Gen Practitioner anyway because the ADD clinic recommended that I have my thyroid levels checked, so I can see if that doc will cover me for meds until I get a new shrink. Bleah. What a pain in the ass!

Well, the decaffeination of [livejournal.com profile] hellziggy is going along pretty good. Tuesday I had 60 oz of Diet Mtn Dew, Wed I had 52 oz, today I had 40 oz.
I plan to just keep gradually cutting back to avoid the "Oh dear Gods, I'm going to DIE!" headache of going cold turkey.

Hey all!

Well I managed to waste an entire day in front of the tv with my computer!
My lap didn't get too hot from the computer though because on Friday my ChillPaks arrived, and they make a HUGE difference in the running temp of the computer! Mine look a little different from the ones on the website, because I am apparently one of the first people to get the New & Improved ChillPak Version 2.0. Of course, I never saw Version 1.0 in person so I don't know what the differences are, other than that mine is blue...

All of my pics from the James Marsters Q & A and the James Marsters concert are up in the gallery. Yup, all 176 of them.
I've also got Moose's convention photos up, just not mine. Yeah, I got my priorities: 1. Marsters 2. Moose 3. Me

Yesterday, I was out of work early because it was my flex week. I also had my appointment with the shrink to go over my ADD test results. Apparently I am really smart and only slightly crazy! LOL! He didn't give me the actual number from the IQ test, but I know about where it's at. I also scored in the high 90s percentiles on some knowledge based tests. I found that I still have the most issues with auditory distractions, but one really interesting thing about that was the test results comparing me with & without the Ritalin in my system. The first one, without, I was only at about 50% in the auditory column, The second time when I took it I was almost up at 100% when I had Ritalin. He could also tell that I had had caffeine that day too. :)
Yes, I got the quit the caffeine lecture. I expected it. I knew I needed to eventually anyway. But I like my Diet Mountain Dew! He's also pretty sure I suffer from SAD and will be recommending light therapy. Taking Omega-3 is also recommended. One really interesting fact was that when he mentioned that I should start exercising, and I said that in the last month I had just started with the DDR he said it is absolutely wonderful for ADD people because of the way it works your brain.
It'll be interesting to get his written report so I can see all the results laid out.

Oy, I'm tired. It's hard work doing nothing!

I hate balancing my checkbook!
But, on a positive note, my new computer has my Quicken transferred to it now. It sucks a lot having to enter over a months worth of checks & charges when you are used to doing it every 2 weeks or so. Too bad just typing a deposit into Quicken doesn't really give you the money. *sigh*
I hate Fargo. The town, not the movie.
But today I thought of three very positive things about spending the weekend in Fargo, besides the lovely blue Virginia Hey:
1. Pizza Patrol
2. off-sale til 1am
3. combining these two things

I miss Pizza Patrol for 2 reasons. 1- it was very yummy & cheap pizza. 2 - they are open 24 hours! We were spoiled. I got down here to the cities & discovered that it's tough to find pizza after 11, let alone all night. I'm just hoping not to have the "that's not as good as I remembered" syndrome.

For those of you who may be from a strange non-Minnesota land, off-sale is a liquor store. Off sale means you take it off the premises to drink it. On sale is a bar. Don't ask me where these terms come from. Fargo even has drive through liquor stores. Isn't that a brilliant idea?!?
I lived in Fargo when I turned 21. In ND you can get off sale until 1am, which is also what time the bars close. So if you are drinking & don't want to stop you just have to leave at lasst call & rush to the liquor store. Or, if you're drinking in Fargo, you can probably just buy something to go at the bar you're at. We usually drank in Moorhead just on the other side of the river. This required a little more planning. Someone had to head out at 12:30 or so to get across the river & buy the booze. Minnesota has the same last call as ND, but you can only get off sale until 10 pm. If you run out of beer at 11:00 on a Saturday night you won't get any more until Monday. HellBob & I are still trying to get used to that. It's just not right.

My brain is starting to get fuzzy. Maybe I should think about getting to bed soon.

I've been cutting back on caffeine. I only have one caribou or one mello yello in the morning. In the next week or two the caribou will be turning into decaf & the mello yello into sprite. I have decided that caffeine is an evil drug. It has less effect than Ritalin. It is much much more addictive. It has withdrawal symptoms. And once you are hooked on it, it gives you no benefit, it just keeps you from suffering the withdrawal symptoms. I can't believe this drug is legal & unregulated. It should be as hard to get as Ritalin. Except the little bit you get in chocolate, of course. Chocolate doesn't count. It's a vegetable.
In just cutting back I have already noticed that I have more energy. When I was consuming a steady intake of caffeine I was practically falling asleep at my desk!

For those who haven't heard yet, we are having our official End of the Summer BBQ. It will be here at the HellHouse on Oct 12th. Start time is 6pm. We have a fire pit that we will be lighting up sometime after dark. Human sacrifices start at about 10 pm. Oh, wait, human sacrifices are bad, aren't they? I guess we will just have to have alcohol sacrifices. I will personally be responsible for sacrificing several bottles of raspberry apple cider. And I'm also going to try to get my hands on some of my dad's 400 proof wine. Mmmm, really strong homemade wine. Y'all know where we live & if you don't just email me. Official decrees will hopefully be mailed out soon.

Brain turn off now.

The only good thing about going back to work after having Monday off is that after finishing what feels like a Monday you realize that it is already Wednesday tomorrow!
Wow. It took forever to read everyone's posts. Don't any of you people work? I think I am the only person who can't LJ at work!!!!! What a long crappy day. I think it's mostly cuz I forgot to refill the Zoloft prescription. A Sharon without her anti-depressants is a very cranky bitchy Sharon! Luckily I've gotten better at hiding it.
